EASY to use!!!

Received product within days. I’ve used it to carry 2 sups and it works perfectly mounted on our 2019 Honda hrv. At 100km/hr, we barely noticed any difference while driving. The instructions should mention that the 3rd blank key is for installing the locks, so that part was a pain. Now that it’s all set up, I’m very satisfied with the functionality and ease of use of our Thule SUP Taxi XT. Thank you!!

Easy Install, Not secure enough for surfboard

This product is very durable and easy to install. However, if you are using this to carry anything less than a big longboard, it is not secure. I have a 7'6 surfboard and I could not get the straps tight enough to secure the board in place. I do not recommend getting this unless you have a board that is thick or are transporting multiple boards.

Great product with one fault

I bought this product a few weeks ago. I was excited because it was suppose to be an easy installation and system to use. In the end it is, I do like it and I’m happy I bought. Initially it was frustrating because I could not get the straps that go around my rack bars to loosen enough to fit around. I have the evo winged bars from Thule. It took A LOT of loosening! It worked in the end and that shouldn’t be a problem again moving forward. The second issue that was super frustrating was the straps that go over the SUP board. They would not thread back through the locking system. The metal core inside the strap is not quite long enough and it can bunch making it very challenging to get through! With the help of my sister we managed to get it through. It took a long ... MoreI bought this product a few weeks ago. It is a great system with really that one sticking point. I did read others reviews stating the same issue.

I was nervous about setup, but I was proven wrong.
6 September 2022

So there were a lot of mixed reviews I read on here and other sites about feeding the straps through in order to secure the boards but I was nervous to try cheaper products and I needed a taxi for two boards. The more recent reviews were better than the original.I traveled about 100 miles with the boards on the carrier and they didn't move at all and I have larger paddle boards. We had no issues with the straps except for when I actually took the boards off and ran the straps back through the carrier to secure them, it was a little tougher then but I was able to get it within three tries. My take aways though for other buyers. The directions are horrible! The directions are horrible! The last page shows an image that I had no idea what it was and I had called Thule and it took 3 people to finally figure out that it's an outline of a blanket that you can use provide and use to cushion between the two boards. Also, this is my first Thule product and I had no idea about the locking bolts and that you have to use the master key in order to insert them and remove them. Would have been nice to have that listed in the directions. I found a video on youtube for a totally different product that helped me with this. There's also two black caps that come with the product and if you don't look closely, you'll miss where they come into play in the directions.I had watched a video from etrailer that goes over the setup of this product on youtube and watched it several times before I installed. Note they installed it backwards compared to Thules instructions but it gives you a good sense overall on how to install the product.

It can be great....
8 July 2021

I was hesitant to buy because of the negative reviews about the straps, but I decided to give it a try. With the reviews in mind, I started by loosening the straps without removing them entirely. While this requires loading from one end, it's not so hard and I was able to pretty easily get my large inflatable SUP under the loosened straps without removing them and I am confident I could easily get two boards in this way. I can do this solo, and it is super easy with two people. I can see the potential issue with pulling the straps out entirely, though I wonder if folks who are struggling to get them back in are depressing the button (where the lock is) that loosens the strap all the way. With the strap issue resolved by not pulling them all the way out, this rack ... MoreI was hesitant to buy because of the negative reviews about the straps, but I decided to give it a try. With the strap issue resolved by not pulling them all the way out, this rack rocks. Super easy to tighten and lock and the ability to adjust the width of the rack to fit different boards and different parts of the same board is great. The racks feel a lot more stable than the less expensive strap/pad systems and I'm glad I took a shot.

So yeah...the straps definitely are defective.
28 July 2020

Unfortunately all the comments on the straps not feeding through the cam are true. Is this something Thule will address?? Obviously I'm returning this to REI. Otherwise the idea of this thing is good, but like the most important feature, using the integrated strap with their cam, does not work - and of course is the only reason you would buy this.I think the other comments on locks and the mount are maybe confusion. It comes with 4 locks, and they install and work fine (you have to use the control key to install them). Also, 4 is all you need. One for locking each rack to the crossbar (so 2), and one for locking each rack closed when holding a board (so 2 more). Also, if it appears that the rubber mount won't fit around your crossbar, spin the control knob ... MoreUnfortunately all the comments on the straps not feeding through the cam are true. Crazy.

Solid Product

So happy I read prior reviews and watched videos before purchasing the Thule Taxi XT. I love it! The instructions could use improvement(I thought about giving this 4 stars because of this) , but it is very sturdy and a night and day difference to what I used to use to transport my boards. Putting a towel between the boards (if you load 2 boards) is essential. One of the two racks was a bit tough to open, but I managed to open it after a few tries. Love that you can tuck in the strap.

The Upgraded Version is Sick!
19 July 2022

I took a chance and bought this when it was on sale. I guess all the bad reviews are from an earlier version of the rack, the upgraded version is ridiculous. First off, I use this for my regular surfboards, not a SUP. It easily fits 4 huge foam boards, and could honestly hold a 5th if I really needed it too. The straps are burly and they never flap in the wind. The mechanism to secure the strap is super simple to use and it also locks. I've literally left my boards on top of the car in the middle of a city and no one touched them (not that I recommend that). There's also metal inside the straps so they're not easy to cut off. If you loop the strap though a board bag handle, it would be pretty hard to steal these. Finally, the amount of time I save in putting the ... MoreI took a chance and bought this when it was on sale. I'm a surf instructor and sometimes do that 5 or 6 times a day. This rack easily saves me an hour a day. I can't give this a high enough recommendation.

Thule SUP Taxi XT - Black/Silver
18 September 2023

Solid product; has been used very consistently since I got it a ~year ago.It has been used for both SUP and Windsurfer boards and handled both with ease. That's honestly the best part - SO simple to just load up and go, which means more time out on the water :)A little bit of wear-and-tear on the rubber of the cradle section where boards sit, but it hasn't affected performance so far - and otherwise it's held up to the elements and usage without any problems!

You will need a drink after installing this one
19 June 2023

I'm glad they provided an opportunity to review because to keep your sanity you will need it. There are several steps the "instructions" do not cover and it will take your best McGyver or Sherlock Holmes impression to figure out. It involves the keys and the straps. Can't wait to actually try to attach a surfboard. I might go study engineering at MIT first.
