2021 BMW X2 Requires 50" Bar

While Thule may be “technically” correct in saying the 47” bar fits the BMW X2, practically speaking, the 50” bar is a better option. The “perfect” option might actually be a 50” bar in the front, and a 47” bar in the back because the rails are at their widest point in the front, and narrowest in the back.In order to get the 47” bar to work, you need to place it about 10” behind the seam in the panoramic moon roof. That puts it about 62” above the ground. The rear bar sits above the antenna, at about 61” above the ground, which puts a roof box at an angle that catches the wind, rather than a more ideal “level.”This also places the Force XT Sport Roof Box so far back that the rear hatch must remain closed. If you have experience kicking around auto glass shops you might have a chance of installing these without issue. Our rubber stripping that we needed to install is messed up and our bars are scratched.. and here we are, like so many things these days, half installed, unhappy, and not willing to burn up the time to take it all apart and take it back. I will be fantasizing about drop-kicking this rubbish into the lobby of REI and getting my $2500 back. Thule and REI should be ashamed of themselves.

Both front seats were soaked through with rain water as it had been leaking through the doors all week. I was very disappointed as there was water draining in on the inside of the windscreen / windows and down the door cards. I had to put towels down to keep dry and I'm still drying out the car two days later!! I returned to store and they removed the seal from both doors, which then stopped the water coming through the door and this was tested with a bucket of water. Staff did apologise / explained this shouldn't have happened and I was offered a free dehumidifier to help dry out my car. Could be a fault with the Thule instructions or with it being car specific - I don't know. Overall the wingbars do the job and look smart. However, be aware of how they're fitted as this wasn't a great experience for me. Given 4 stars as it fits the car and looks smart, but clearly difficult to fit correctly, even for the experienced Halfords fitter. Glad the store fitted for me, but this purchase was by no means straight forward.

I had no idea it would be so expensive - but that's on me for making an impulse buy in a time constrained situation.I believe the bars and feet are easy to install - provided you aren't experiencing sleep deprivation, rushing, trying to install it in the parking lot of Christy Sports when it's 30 degrees out, your fingers are numb while holding a flashlight in your mouth. When I returned home and reattached the cross bars, I found the directions quite simple and easy to understand. Just slow down, make sure your reading the correct directions (the directions include many different types of Thule cross bars), and have a tape measure.I read reviews where others complained about additional noise. I did not experience that.Overall, I am pleased with them. Because I did not have time to research and compare cost versus quality, I gave a 4 rating. I feel the cross bars are a top notch product - just expensive.BTW: they look really sharp!!!!

I accidentally ran mine over with my SUV, and they're barely scratched whereas my car had a $300 dent. These things are sturdy. I put my Ayer 2 rooftop tent on them no problem, same with my Lifetime Kayak. They're quiet; highway speeds have barely a whistle and when you close the sunroof shade it's nearly inaudible. I honestly almost choked when I saw the total price (the bars plus the car mount plus the adapter, crazy expensive) but it is definitely worth it. They come on and off decently easy and they aren't too heavy or hard to store. They're my first roof rack and I have no doubt they'll outlive my Jeep. They also look great in black; they match my car's roof. If you have any doubts about whether or not they're worth the premium price tag stop wondering because ... MoreI accidentally ran mine over with my SUV, and they're barely scratched whereas my car had a $300 dent. Noisy. Installation easy despite poor instructions
26 March 2023

I got these for a 2021 Subaru WRX. They fit fine and installation was easy despite the fact that the instructions were lacking. The bars have a built in measuring gauge that you are supposed to match up with listed dimensions for your specific vehicle, but those didn't exist. Neither the instructions for the bars nor for the fit kit included these, and no amount of Googling or searching Thule's site came up with anything. It was still easy enough to install, I just had to measure myself and got zero benefit from their built in tool.Unfortunately, these are pretty noisy on my WRX despite double checking everything about the installation. I ended up putting electrical tape across the entire length of the rubber t-slot gasket, which seems to have resolved the issue. ... MoreI got these for a 2021 Subaru WRX. I ended up putting electrical tape across the entire length of the rubber t-slot gasket, which seems to have resolved the issue. That's not a very elegant solution for a hardware system that cost about $700 all-in. I suspect that this has everything to do with the spacing of the bars and the aerodynamics of each unique vehicle in relation to the bars, so I expect other cars to have different results. All that said, the installation was pretty simple, and the bars are very sturdy. I got these so they would be wide enough to carry a canoe on my relatively small car, and they do the trick for that. If they were quieter, I'd be delighted.

Not recommended for Subaru Crosstrek
17 April 2022

Was super excited to get these sleek bars on my new '21 Crosstrek. ...and then came the install. Fitment says they will work for my raised rails. And I guess *technically* they do - if you are okay with your crossbars being about 20" apart. That will not meet my needs as I need a wider spread and more stable base to support a 10.5ft kayak. The underside of the crossbars have a cutout that the feet slide into; however, it only goes in from the ends a certain amount. And that amount is not enough for the feet to slide inward enough since the factory rails taper slightly as you move towards the back of the vehicle. It seems like a very UNversatile design, especially considering Crosstreks are a pretty common outdoorsy vehicle.I had Thule products on my last vehicle ... MoreWas super excited to get these sleek bars on my new '21 Crosstrek. ...and then came the install. It seems like a very UNversatile design, especially considering Crosstreks are a pretty common outdoorsy vehicle.I had Thule products on my last vehicle and would've liked to continue that theme. After more research, I returned the feet, crossbars and locking cores x4 and exchanged it all for a competitor that starts with a 'Y' and rhymes with rackima. Their foot track runs the whole underside of the crossbar - no restrictions. Take a note Thule. They still got some of my money as I kept the pricey but awesome Hullavator system for my kayak.PICTURES: I wanted to put the crossbars at the far front and back of the rails, but that was a 'no'. Even sliding them up right behind the brace didn't work (you can see in the space that's left how much more the foot needed to slide in still, but couldn't). The rear crossbar would have to go in front of the brace to work. Maybe that's okay for a bike, but not for anything long like a kayak.

Poor Fitment, Poor Packaging
8 June 2019

I purchased the Thule Evo Wing Bars for my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee primarily for the Evo type rail. The Wing Bars were damaged on the end and un-usable due to the aluminum being bent inward such that the end cap could not be installed on both bars. The package was un-opened and there was no visible damage to the box. However there was also nothing inside the box to protect the ends which are fairly fragile. Be sure to open the box and check for damage before leaving the store. You cannot install the front bar in the furthest forward position due to the shape of the rubber piece that comes in the fit kit. When installed further back, the fitment is still very poor to the factory rail. It is secure to the vehicle but the rubber adapter in the fit kit has large gaps all the way around. The rack whistles at 50+ mph. I suspect the wind noise is coming from the gaps under the Rapid Pedistals rather than the Wing Bar itself. Regardless, its going back to REI. I do not recommend Thule for any Grand Cherokees 2011-Present.

The whistling sound goes away once you get on the highway.Driving with the cargo box on is very stable and no rattling noise for the most part. I did look up while we were driving (70-80 mph) and can see some movement. I was not worried about it because the box is made from ABS plastic and there is some flex to the cargo box. This is my first cargo box so I don't have anything to compare it to, but there is some noise at highway speed. The sound is similar to being on a plane but not as loud. The sound increases the faster you go and starts at around 50 mph. If you drive with the window down and no music you can hear it very clearly. I've also driven in the rain (>400 miles) with the cargo box and rain water did not get in.As for clearance, I was initially worried that keeping the bars on full time would mean that I cannot use my moon roof. This was not an issue. I'm able to raise my moon roof up and open the entire thing without contact with the raised rails. I originally purchased the 43" aerobars because I did not want the extra bit sticking out. However, the bars cannot be installed because there is a 1.5 inch clearance requirement on each side of the car. The 43" is about 2 inch too short. When the cargo box is on, I've positioned it so that the front lip of the cargo box does not go over the top of the windshield. Having the cargo box in this position, I was still able to fully open my rear lift gate without contact. The height of the VW Tiguan with the cross bars installed is 67.5 inches. Adding in the cargo box adds another 16.5" to the height. The Motion XT is measured at 18" but there are dips where the bars go and these are account for about 1.5". Total height of the car + cross bars + cargo box = 84".Finally, I bought the one key system from Thule. I chose the 6 lock option to cover all my locks. The cargo box has 2 locks and each raised rail has a lock each. This was an expensive purchase, but overall I'm happy with it.

I opened the box and immediately notice 4 large dents on the front edge of each bar at the same distance from all four ends. After inspecting further I noticed that one end is mangled enough that I can’t slide the feet into the track. The box was not damaged at all which makes me think this happened in production. How does something this bad pass Thule’s quality control. This seems rare and not like Thule at all based on other reviews. I will now need to pay for rush shipping and hopefully get a replacement and refund in time for my upcoming trip.
