This review is from the perspective of a DSLR video shooter. The good news is that the new MCS system is really slick. It's a modest investment to get all the lenses adapted to it using MCS step up rings. Once that is done, you can quickly switch filters, and lenses just by snapping the filters on and off. Also, the variable has hard stops on 2 and 8, preventing you from turning the filter past it's useful range.I'll attach some images here to show why I'm disappointed with this. The worst results came from my Sony 14-35 lens. At 14mm, there is substantial vignetting, despite using the 72-77mm step up ring. Perhaps I should have gone with the 82mm filter? The cross hatching gets really bad after 5 stops, giving uneven brightness levels. The results are better using my 50mm lens, (just look at the center portion of the example images) but there are still some areas of darker frame. While I don't like this variable ND, I'm still keeping the MCS system, and plan to use it on other filters.

The Glimmerglass 1/2 is nice. The sharp edges are reduced but I still have detail. And being able to quickly pop off the filter for certain shots is awesome!
