The cotton duck Tilleys are famously bombproof. As well as good at keeping the sun off, despite being cotton they're quite effective rain hats too (the cotton duck is close woven, swells when wet and blocks the holes in the weave) and don't have the disadvantage of a membrane to impede breathability.I got this one to replace a T3 Wanderer, which is in the rough equivalent for cotton duck of stone-washed denim - it's softer off the shelf but also a lot floppier to the point I found the Wanderer not that great in wind. The standard T3 is that bit stiffer so not quite as comfortable (but still comfortable enough) but the brim stays in place a lot better in a blow.Value for money based on the price here of £50 rather than the usual £70, which I'd find a bit too steep.

After 24 years, do I really need a new T3?

This review is NOT about a new Tilley hat. It is about my 24-year-old Tilley that I am thinking about replacing. Beautiful Hat

Beautiful hat. Have it in several colors. This Dark Navy color runs a bit large so i bought one size down and fits perfectly. High quality, perfect brim. Low profile but still protects you from the elements. Made in Canada. I am so happy you brought back your traditional tag label. I highly recommend the T5.You can never go wrong with a Tilley.

Excellent hat

T5 is my second Tilley hat, the other a T3 14 years old still going strong but I wanted a hat with a smaller brim for a future holiday to NZ. T5 fits perfectly, not heavy and worn today in hot sunshine works well in keeping your head protected, yet comfortable. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Tilley T5 and New Forest Clothing for great service and sensible pricing.

First and foremost I am extremely pleased that my Tilley is made in Canada! My brother in law did not read all the options carefully before ordering his, and he is so disappointed. He is even considering purchasing another, (made in Canada), Tilley. As for myself I was sad to give up my 20yr old Tilley hat but I absolutely LOVE my new one. The slightly larger brim took a bit of getting used to but I know come next summer, it will be very beneficial. I had a very non stressful communication with Vanessa D. who helped me navigate the whole purchase/registering process as I am NOT very computer savvy. I like the size brim on this hat

Love that it shapes itself to your head, brim not too wide for a short person, (like wanderer- love it but I look ridiculous in it) that it’s buoyant and good sun protection😊 Definitely better a year on as it looked a bit too ‘new’ for my liking but I chucked it in the wash a lot and left it out in the sun to ‘age’ and now it’s looking good. Lose a star because I was disappointed I was sent the wrong blue - not by Tilley but by a stockist - still am to be fair, but didn’t want the hassle of returning in lockdown so I kept it. The right blue would be perfect 5 stars. Great for keeping the burn off when gardening, kayaking or walking dogs. It must be ok because my teenage daughter keeps borrowing it for SUP! Ive always been a ball cap guy.. till dad bought me my tilly

My father has always had a fishing hat the t3 cotton duck always khaki colored. I always liked the look of the hat but always out of my price range about 6 months ago dad bought me one as a gift and i think i may have worn my ball cap twice and the tilly replaced my trusty caps. So useful in many ways carpentry pencils fit in the fold for the brim on either side and the straps save you from losing it in the wind. Roofing? No problem. Framing a house? Still on your head. Testing your buddy's atv wide open? Still on your head fishing in 35 kt winds hauling lobster traps. Same Amazing Quality!

20 years ago I purchased my first Tilley. My kids were small and I remember thinking long and hard about making the purchase. 20 years later the second T3 arrived. Same amazing quality and comfort. Took if from Canada to pool side in Key West Florida. Life has changed. Kids are grown up and I decided it was time to treat myself. Wonder when my next Tilley will show up. Maybe for playing with the grandkids. Who knows

Terrific Tilley once again

I just purchased my third T5 online. The shopping experience was easy and delivery was quick. I purchased the same size and type as before because you can’t beat perfection. I am so glad the classic T5 is still available. My first on was stolen. Number two finally wore out after twenty years of all weather service. My third hat should do likewise. Here is hoping!

Third Time Around

My 1st Tilley T3 was the Original and bought for me as a gift in the early 1980's (before Tilley hats were "Cool"). By 2002 I had that Original replaced (my 2nd Tilley T3) under the lifetime guarantee because I had also worn this hat to death (took 20 years). In 2022 I got my 3rd Tilley T3 Cotton Duck hat (also a replacement under the lifetime guarantee.)These hats are very comfortable and have protected my scalp from sunburn on many occasions. And yes, they do float - have had it go overboard once or twice but it was easy to retrieve and there was no panic thinking the hat would sink into the abyss.Tilley makes a high quality product and they stand by their warranty.
