Like other Timex enthusiasts, I was delighted in 2017 by the release of the Marlin reissue. Since then, I've purchased the 1979 Q, the M79 dive style, the Waterbury automatic, and a Mk1 chronograph.Unfortunately, the Expedition division let me down (and everyone who has purchased this watch so far).Okay, yes, it is an attractive watch. Despite reading negative reviews, I was charmed by it. I loved the white dial. Screw-in caseback and sapphire crystal? 100M of water resistance? Wow!I regret to say that I regret the purchase, and it's been a long time since I've regretted the purchase of a Timex. The stumpy handset is a head-scratcher. There is no point in having a smooth sweep second hand unless it hits the hashes. You can count off seconds on a stunted 1 Hz ticker easily; with a smooth sweep, you need hash marks.A leather OEM strap? Seriously? What other field watch brand puts a leather strap on their watch? Marathon, Hamilton, Weiss, Luminox, Bertucci, CWC, etc use nylon, cordura, kevlar or other durable materials. A field watch strap is gonna get wet and muddy, sweat-stained, and snagged. Timex's leather strap seems decent enough, but it wouldn't last a week doing basic chores on my farm. I hate Nato straps, but that would have been preferable.A watch without a reliable beating heart is a bracelet. The movement in mine hacks reliably and has been keeping very decent time. But the minute hand jumps when I push in the crown, and that's a maddening failure of quality control. It jumps forward almost exactly one minute, so I set the watch one-minute slow, but that doesn't really inspire confidence, does it?If Timex was going to make a serious field watch, then they should have made a serious field watch. I get it, they're not a charity, and I'm sure with a lumed dial and a decent movement (along with the sapphire and screw-in caseback), they were approaching the $300 mark.I'm an optimist, and believe if you build something worth $300, people will pay it. Timex's reputation has skyrocketed since 2017. The Galli S-1 watches ($450 automatics) can't stay in stock. So my advice to Timex is this: if a great field watch costs $300 or more, then build it, and I bet people will buy it. I spent $200-something on this with discounts and I'm not happy with it. I wish I had spent $350 and had a better watch.

Why did it take Timex so long to make this watch? This isn't just a good addition to the Expedition line, it's a template for all Timex watches in the future to follow. For the price, you get premium specs. It's not just the sapphire crystal with AR coating. The watch head itself is very well made. Solid, good feeling, with heft (which is very unlike the Marlin autos). Impeccable (and good-looking) sandblasted finish. The dial is blue and the hands and markers are light grey (not white) which makes it unique. The movement is good enough, and accurate so far after several days. I don't know if it's the same mechanical movement that's in the Marlin but it probably is. Even the strap is good. While not the softest, it's thick and feels good and will last a long time. ... MoreWhy did it take Timex so long to make this watch? The only complaint I have about this watch are that the hands are a bit short (and they really don't have to be...it must be a Timex thing) and the lume is pretty weak. But for a go-anywhere mechanical hand-wound field watch that is well-built for a very decent price, this is an absolute winner. It's better built than I expected and I'm happy to see Timex making strides in the right direction.

Great watch, quite overpriced.

Really decent manual winding mechanical field watch. No date window, ~38 hour power reserve. Seems to run a little fast but pretty accurate.I’m torn on the rating. I waited and got this at half price and it’s a 5-star watch at that price. At the MSRP it’s really not. You can spend about the same amount of money and get a more accurate, reliable automatic movement in a Seiko 5, and maybe some other brands too.

Let me say this watch is a 4.5 score but I rated it as a 5 because it has no business being rated as a 3.8 as it stands right now.I really like this watch! I had been waiting for Timex to make a watch like this, a mechanical watch with a sapphire crystal, and (fairly decent) quality parts.I will say, I wish all 3 of the hands were just a fraction longer. As for the mechanical movement, I’m not sure what Timex has specified to be the tolerance, but I’m generally finding that it’s inside 13 seconds a day for mine. Which that is decent, seeing that this has never been pitched as a COSC certified watch (I probably do wish they would’ve gone with a slightly higher tier movement, but that’s just a suggestion, not a complaint).

Looks great. Runs bad.
4 January 2023

Nice looking watch. Too bad it doesn’t run accurately. From the start, it gained five minutes per hour. Not good, but here’s the really ugly part. Timex will not send a replacement. Not willing to exchange it either. Only send in for repair or return it. Then I could purchase another one but not at the discount price. Dealing with Customer Service has been nearly impossible. Either long hold times for telephone contact and no reply by email. So far not a good experience. I’ll be returning the watch for a refund. Let’s see how that goes.

With features you would expect on a watch 3x it’s price, this 38mm hand wind field watch has everything you need and nothing you don’t. The handsome layered blue dial is subtlety unique. The strap is thick and sturdy and I suspect will wear nicely over time. The 100m water resistant rating compares favorably to the 50m of my Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical while the lugs of this Timex are better proportioned than those of the Hamilton. The only area for improvement I see would be to go a little heavier on the lume. I love what you’re doing Timex! For many of us, Timex is the brand that captured our imagination when we were young and continues to do so today.Bottom line, I put this watch on nearly a week ago when it arrived and I haven’t wanted to take it off. It spent the weekend gardening and accompanied me to the office during the week.

Slick affordable mechanical field watch
1 February 2022

This is a sweet watch. Most of my mechanical watches are automatics so this is my first wind-up watch. Works great, looks better in person than on the internet. I haven't measured accuracy exactly but it's right in par with all of my automatics. Love that it has a sapphire crystal. Lume fades quicker than some competitors. Seagul is a Chinese movement manufacturer, but they are well known for making good movements. All that said, for the price point it's great, hits well above.

I got the Field Post Mechanical with white face and brown leather strap. Overall I am quite pleased with this watch. As soon as I heard about this eco-centric line I knew I would want one, but when my older Weekender developed a bad moisture leak, it sealed the deal for me. So things I like and love. The watch has a little heft to it, noticably heavier than my old 38mm Weekender. I suppose this may be the stainless case on the Field Post vs brass or the Weekender, or maybe mechanical vs quartz? Anyway, it feels solid and more substantial but still wears easy and isn't in anyway cumbersome. I like that it's smaller and flatter than so many current huge watches from other manufacturers. Anyway, it feels solid and more substantial but still wears easy and isn't in anyway cumbersome. I like that it's smaller and flatter than so many current huge watches from other manufacturers. I have an active job and this watch is slim enough that I'm not banging and knocking it on everything. I LOVE the sapphire crystal. This is many times better than the typical mineral glass or plastic crystals. The watch face is easy to read, and the white face even reads well in low light. I replaced my strap immediately with a nylon NATO style that I prefer for sweat and water tolerability, but the leather strap that came with the watch was very nice. If I had a cleaner less physical job, I might have left it on. The lume on the hands does not last very long, but I've never really found lume to be practical. Indiglo is much more useful but obviously isn't an option on a mechanical watch. Now the parts I don't like, and this is a short list. I've had my watch about a month and it's always run fast. Like 20 seconds per day, which is a rather large error for 24hr. It is very consistent in this error so I could probably have a watch smith open it and adjust the regulator, but that would cost around $250 which is the price of the watch. The other thing I really don't like is the way the minute hand jumps forward or backwards by as much as 2 minutes when you snap the crown back in. I like to synchronize my watch to the second so when I'm making daily adjustments to account for running 20 seconds fast, it sometimes takes three or four attempts to set the time and depress the crown and have the minute hand stay where it is supposed to be. Once you get it locked in where you want it doesn't move on its own so it's a once a day annoyance. Again overall, I feel this is an outstanding watch and it's exactly what I was looking for, it would just be nice if at this price point the daily error was not so great and the minute hand didn't lurch all over the place when you snap the crown in. Still, I would buy it again tomorrow if anything happened to watch I have.

Watch is nice. Shipping and customer support…
22 December 2022

Love the watch although it wears smaller than 38mm typically do. The face is really nice and it’s easy to read. Lume is mediocre at best. Finishing is mostly well done but you can see a seam on the case. Now, shipping took much longer than expected and it still shows on the website that it’s “on the way” although i got it yesterday. Also the second hand is too short, should go it the outer chapter ring. Support has been impossible to reach. Chat just kicks you out and emails have not been answered. At least I got it!
