A good, 2 round toastie maker.

Purchased to appease the kids, who had wanted one for some time, ok, I wanted one as well! It works very well, with tasty toasties turned out terrifically time after time.It has 2 indicator lights, bizarrely green when it's first switched on and orange when it's ready to toast. Surely, green means go! Anyway, happy with the purchase and the ability to detach and clean the plates is a good idea as well. A definite thumbs up from this family.

Have had a Breville SG3 Sandwich Toaster for some years and this didn't have removable plates so was a pain to clean at times. Purchased the VST082 as it has removable plates and the details for it said it was the "Ultimate Deep Fill Toastie Maker"Breville seem to have forgotten that the total maximum depth of the two plates joined together on the VST082 is only 17m/m (approx) and the total depth of the shells joined together on the SG3 is 30m/m (approx). On this basis the sandwiches produced are much thinner with less filling, will persevere with it but not get rid of our old SG3 which at present is producing much better sandwiches.

Brilliant toastie maker

Well thought out design with removable plates that are dishwasher safe, means we actually use this toastie maker! Can even use it for things such as paninis without the worry & hassle of cleaning the machine after.Easy to read coloured light indicators, has worked perfectly every time so far. Deep enough capacity that you can vary how much you put in a sandwich to accommodate even the hungriest of people.Don't often want to recommend but this is a great product.

Disappointed
12 October 2024

I don't understand the good reviews for this product. I am very disappointed. Its very difficult to clean even though the plates are removable. Food gets trapped under the rims and is difficult to remove. There are lots of difficult corners to clean I ended up trying to clean these areas with a tooth pick. It's definitely not as good as my old sandwich maker. It claims it takes a substantial amount of filling this is incorrect. I cannot think of anything good to say about it.

Great until the non-stick wears off
9 December 2023

I used to have one as a kid and love toasted sandwiches. Bought Breville as a brand I can trust. Worked well for a year, but then the non-stick started wear off.It most likely wore off due to us.Now this is where it goes from 5 start to 1 star, Breville don't sell replacement plates.I understand to do so is extra logistics and cost. These are manufactured in bulk and shipped etc. But what with more companies thinking about the environment and the right to repair, Breville is missing a trick to be a modern customer and environmental focused company. Plus it could be a new revenue stream as people replace the plates more often than the whole machines.

I love it but...
10 October 2024

We purchased this toastie maker three years ago when we moved to Europe. Fell mad in love with it. Came searching for the waffle plates but they were out of stock. Turns out they are discontinued in spite of this item still being available to purchase. We are disappointed that we will be parting with our toastie maker to have something that does both Toasties and Waffles - thus contributing to the landfill problems that are already unmanageable.5* for the toastie game1* for the lack of consumer responsibility. Do better on that end please Breville.

Not as good as advertised
2 March 2024

The description says "Extra Deep Fill: Space for tonnes of delicious ingredients"Id hate to see one that had any less depth because this toasty maker simply does not match that description. It really does not have deep enough jaws to toast anything with what I would call normal slices of bread plus a filling that contains enough to enjoy. It clamps the edges well but what comes out at the end is a very thin, compressed sandwich, with hard edges reminiscent of a crusty pie.It is though easy to clean with detachable plates top and bottom.I would look at another make before making a purchase.Dissapointing

Not great quality
31 March 2024

We got this as a replacement for a previous Breville which lasted many years. This one seems a much cheaper construction. Even after several uses it still gives off an unpleasant burning plastic smell in use. The plates are easy to remove and clean, but somehow melted cheese/butter has made its way inside the toaster and runs out of gaps in the plastic if we rest it on its side - seems like a major design flaw. The toasted sandwiches are good, but overall this is a disappointing sandwich toaster which I wouldn't recommend.

Not like they used to be.

Not built like they used to be.Had our previous Breville Sandwich Toaster as a wedding present in 2005. Absolutely loved it, used it constantly, only gripe was difficult to clean. Finally last year we decided to buy the new one with removable plates (after buying my mum one for Xmas), which we thought would be superb, and it was initially. Removing the plates, soaking them and washing was so much easier, just what we wanted, until....Last month, the non stick coating has started coming off- they never go in a dishwasher, don't use scourers on them just soak in washing up bowl and clean. Now, it is impossible to make a sandwich without them ripping open as you lift the lid, then you have to scrape the stuck sandwich off and try to make something half decent. ... MoreNot built like they used to be.Had our previous Breville Sandwich Toaster as a wedding present in 2005. So now I will have to throw out a toastie maker in good working order because i can't replace the plates.

Pretty good but could be so much better!

Firstly, I should say that I love cheese toasties and have done since childhood. Breville is synonymous with the cheese toastie and having tried other brands and returned to Breville I can see why - it is definitely superior to the other brands I've tried. When I got gifted one of these, I wasnt really excited about any of the functions, just that I can enjoy cheese toasties or 'Brevilles' again. This version has a useful 'heat ready' light and you can remove the plates for easy cleaning which make a huge difference. Even though we don't usually, there is also an option to put the plates in the dishwasher which is super helpful. All this said...I do have 2 gripes with this toaster...1. Even though you can remove the toasting plates for easy cleaning, sometimes the molten cheese will be able to get in through the tiny gap between the plates and either start to burn on the elements or dry solid making it impossible to clean off.2. Similarly to the last gripe, sometimes molten cheese/butter/grease etc, will escape down the sides and back of the machine making it really messy and more unnecessary cleaning. Please note, that yes, I do add ample cheese but not extreme amounts so whilst I can expect the odd overflow this happens 99% of the time.My suggestions to Breville would be to redesign the removable plates to add a wider 'cheese/ingredient' catchment area with a trench and/or a lip that means the cheese/juices are trapped in the catchment area and cannot escape either out of the machine on to the worktop or into the area where the elements sit.Fix this and you'd get 5 stars!
