Great Packout Alternative

TLDR: Good stuff, great features, love that its black, can open/close/mount/unmount one handed (decent accessibility), rolling chest handle has some wobble but can easily be removed for transport! (take that Packout), concerns over mounting mechanism durability but not so much it would keep me from buying it again. Would buy again over my Packout depending on my needs.__________________________________I have kept this review to Stacktech in general as most of my thoughts cover the entire product line. For background I have been using Milwaukee Packout gear since 2018, utilizing them for construction tools, telecom tools, and IT equipment. I have used other storage systems lightly so most of my comparisons will be to Packout since it's what I have the most experience with.I bought Stacktech for AV gear (cameras, lenses, cables, SDI equipment, rigging, etc.) mostly because it stands out less than other solutions (you know, it's not bright red or orange) but it has really surprised me. I think this is a great solution when stacked up against Packout.Pros:It's not a flashy color like Packout or the Klien Modbox. It rides the line perfectly of looking lowkey without looking cheap. The rolling toolbox handle can be removed quickly and easily for transport! The plastics feel durable and are well molded. You can open them one handed and remove them from the stack one handed (the release lever is spring loaded). It also stays unlocked until you set it back on the stack, so you don't have to slide it on, you just set it back down and it clicks on. This is great for accessibility. (The rolling box handle can be lowered one handed without too much fuss but raising it one handed is more difficult albeit possible)The top is dished so you can work off the top without stuff rolling off or getting stuck down in the mounting cleats (a problem I have with Packout). The corner mounting solution is genius, I cut open the long tool holder and added Velcro so I could put whatever I want in it. I just wish they sold the mounting mechanism in a DIY friendly format so I could make my own tool/equipment mounts.Potential CONs:The mounting mechanism is more complicated than Packout, I haven't had any issues, but I am keeping this in mind when thinking about durability/longevity. I certainly hope that they thoroughly tested the main mechanism and any issues with this are covered under the limited lifetime warranty. The mounting mechanism also doesn't have the mounting surface area like Packout does, so we will see if there are any issues with things breaking or coming undone from drops, falls, transport, use over the years, etc.The rolling chest handle is wobbly when lifted. The looseness is where the tubes meet each other and not with the mechanism that allows the handle to be removed. I would gladly take this trade off and be able to remove the handle, but it does feel a bit cheap with how loose it is.The molding design/thickness of the plastic means you don't have quite as much space in the boxes as Packout, but it's not drastically different.

I have an all Milwaukee packout, this is better

StackTech's rolling tool box really shows the product line's strengths. It's incredibly durable, sleek, solid, and has thoughtful design. The flat top is useful, the roller handle comfortable, easy to adjust and remove/replace (I did not experience any issues another reviewer mentioned). The handle has bumpers to keep stacked boxes from hitting your knuckles (a nice design). The one-handed clasp is easy to use and feels secure when shut. The wheels and side handles all recess flush into the side profile, so nothing sticks out (for a more efficient fit in a van or closet). And in the back the recessed foot pedal makes it easy to tilt a fully loaded unit over for rolling (giving you the leverage needed to do it easily).Like the competition the wheels are a molded ... MoreStackTech's rolling tool box really shows the product line's strengths. They seem strong, and show no bowing when I load this up with over 100 lbs. That said, the wheels connect to the axle with a little more play than I've noticed in the Packout (something I hope the factory improves in the future). Other drawbacks include the lack of texture/grip in the ledge above the side handles, the lack of a metal ring in the back for tethering (which is included in the large StackTech tool box), and the system's extra weight (a trade-off to all the steel reinforcement it has).

Transportation
5 February 2024

I think that everyone gets this due to the fact that they need to move the rest of their boxes around from place to place and they place things in it that they do not need or use very often. Yes I give it 5 stars because it performs as well as all the other STACKTECH products. But here is the kicker. STACKTECH make several other ways to move your boxes. The 4 wheel cart works well if you are on surfaces that are level or in a garage. Yes I know the red people do too. But as the say on TV, but wait there's more! LOL. They currently have a convertible hand truck with the box locks built in. Before I saw this I was planning to attach the plates from the RED brand to my current hand truck. No need. [Rewarded Review] Nice base with lots of potential
15 December 2023

The base of the StackTech is a well built product. I did have the issue of the top part of the handle being broken when it arrived. The item was shipped with the handle on the bottom of the box and because the top of the handle protrudes the most, that's what broke at some point during transit. I was able to JB weld it back together and I don't anticipate any issues from here on out. This container is pretty big and would be good for your bigger tools. I had a couple of fish tapes and several drills and batteries in the bottom and there was still plenty of room left for more. There is not a way to disconnect the wheels completely from this container but the removable handle at least allows the profile to be lowered to the box height. One thing I did find when ... MoreThe base of the StackTech is a well built product. Once those are released, it will open up even more possibilities for uses with these tool boxes.

[Rewarded Review] Solid tool box with lots of options
26 December 2023

This particular tool box system has a lot to offer for both home owners and contractors in the field. This particular extra large rolling tool box has plenty of room for hand tools or smaller power tools such as circular saw or drill, likely both and more. The pull handle is telescoping and extends tall enough to go above this wheeled box as well as the large and smaller boxes when stacked and has an offset handles so that even if the boxes are taller than the handle you can still comfortably pull the stack. The plastic is sturdy and should take the abuse of the jobsite. the box has a handle on each side for easy carrying and loading. the box also has a significant snap-lock that i believe will keep the cover closed and tight. The box can be locked using a padlock and there are a number of other accessories available that can be mounted on the accessory rails located at the corner of the tool box. Overall this is a great toolbox system with many options.

[Rewarded Review] Stacktech works so smoothly!

This is a great addition to our toughbuilt stacking tool boxes! This piece was delivered with the handle snapped off, unfortunately, so it doesn't contract or expand, and the metal handle actually falls out the bottom. This seems like a shipping error and not a manufacturing error because the rest of this unit is SUPER durable and strongly built. We got this unit to use more in a stationary tool organizational capacity so the split handle isn't a dealbreaker for us - though i'm sure if it happens to you, you could just let them know about the damage and they'd replace it. I love how big these locking toolboxes are - i can fit SO much in there! Also, every single size seems to come with the removable insert for smaller tools and fasteners, which i love. I always love a waterproof tool storage option, because occasionally our basement can get pretty damp, so storing my corded tools in this is a great way to use space and keep everything safe. All in all, we are very happy with our storage set!

[Rewarded Review] The rolling feature is great and makes it so easy
13 December 2023

I was pretty excited when I ordered the Toughbuilt StackTech toolbox as this is something I have needed for a long time but was surprised at just how durable they are in person. I expected them to be thin plastic like a fishing tackle box but I was way off, they are thick and well supported plastic boxes. The rolling bottom box is so easy to use, enjoyable to roll around and so easy to stack more boxes on top. There are so many options about what you can fit in here from drills, circular saws, jigsaws or about any handheld tool. I went from carrying a large tool bag with no organization to this tool box and I really enjoy the range of what can fit in here. When stacking on the other size toolboxes on top the alignment is beautiful and effortless. When stacking on the other size toolboxes on top the alignment is beautiful and effortless. I really like the easy latch to unluck each box and the center handle is very easy to use. Everything about this toolbox is for use with one hand in mind which I really enjoy about it. I can find so many uses for this size toolbox and it should be around for a long time. The handle is rugged, easy to extend or collapse and very helpful for moving around. When stacking all three boxes it is heavy but no problem to move with the wheels. I am very impressed with the durability of how they are built, ease of use and highly recommend.

[Rewarded Review] Very Heavy Duty tool box!

I got the full set of these ToughBuilt StackTech toolboxes, and I am very impressed with them! They are true to their name in multiple ways:- They "stack", and they stack easily and well. And not only do they stack easily on top of each other, but they LOCK onto each other. There is a sliding lock switch on the front of the smaller boxes that allows them to quickly lock onto the rolling base or to one another. As soon as you place one on top of another, the lock automatically engages - you don't have to remember to take an extra step of locking them yourself. And then you can disengage the lock quickly with that sliding switch mentioned earlier. Pretty slick!!- They are "Tough". You can tell just by handling them - they don't flex around when you carry them or ... MoreI got the full set of these ToughBuilt StackTech toolboxes, and I am very impressed with them! And then you can disengage the lock quickly with that sliding switch mentioned earlier. Pretty slick!!- They are "Tough". You can tell just by handling them - they don't flex around when you carry them or open them - they keep their shape! And the material walls are plenty thick - you don't have to worry about accidentally hitting them with a tool and breaking them.- Each of the boxes has some accessory attachment points on the corners. I understand that there are a host of attachments coming out soon that will make these attachment points very handy to have!- Each box has a large center latch that makes opening and closing the box a breeze. None of those wimpy two-piece latches that always seem to brake or never seem to line up properly!- All of the boxes are rated IP-65, which means they are water and dust resistant. No more arriving to the job site and finding your tools are covered in road dust or that rain leaked in and ruined some tools! For the specific rolling toolbox - it comes with some large 9" "all-terrain" wheels that make it easy to get around the job site. The removable telescoping handle allows you to still fit the toolbox in the bed of a truck that has a bed cover (nice!). The interior is quite roomy and includes a removable tray for smaller items. One of the best things about the product, however, is not immediately noticeable... The people that stand behind the products they build! When I received my shipment the top part of the handle on this rolling toolbox had broken clean off, undoubtedly from a less than optimal packaging of all of the toolboxes within the outer box and some aggressive handling during shipment. However after one quick email to the folks at Toughbuilt explaining the situation, they VERY QUICKLY, with no trouble whatsoever, shipped me a new handle! Now that's amazing customer service from folks who stand behind the products they build!
