This was the hardest to set up, the most unreliable, badly designed piece of crap I've ever purchased. It's going back today! The computer says I'm connected but the web browser says it can't find the network. The green lights are all stable, and the wi-fi has an IP address and a green light but it still wouldn't connect. This is the 2nd modem router from JB HiFi I've tried. I'm going back to Optus to get one like the ten-year-old one I had. At least that worked!

Not sure if its my copy of the device or I am missing some settings. I am just using lan1 and lan2 for Ethernet connections along with a network lan hub. I also added 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for Primary DNS 1 and 2 as they were suggested in the support FAQ on the Tp link website. After that it is really working well with improved speeds and devices that were getting dropped off are no longer facing that problem. Phone line setup worked with a bit of tweaking. Dodo Voip preset did not work just with username and password. I had to select others in the telephony setup and add sip and outbound proxy to make it work. Get the username and password from the ISP. Search google for the correct settings and you will find it. I will recommend it highly.

Great Value Router
24 August 2022

Highly recommended if on a budget and you're stuck with VDSL. Works well out of the box with minimal setup. It has preconfigured settings for most ISPs (BT, TalkTalk, Plusnet etc.) I also tested in wireless router mode connected to a separate modem and it works great.Range is perfectly acceptable, as long as there is nothing obstructing the antennas. Works well with older devices on 802.11n that don't support 5Ghz, which is nice. Had to enable separate SSIDs, but that was easy enough. It's as good as you really need and a definite upgrade over an ISP provided hub.

I.e. Perhaps you want to ensure your office laptop gets internet access priority over someone else watching Netflix on the same network.- Can turn device lights off if you want to maintain a dark room- Can connect a mobile sim dongle so has a fall back option if internet service providers cable or fibre fails.Cons: Everything about this router is pretty good so I could not find any negatives for users who do not plan to delve into the many admin options. It's easy to configure for those who 'just want it to work' but it also has plenty of additional controls for techs to tweak. The only points of note are for techs n geeks who need to take advantage of the more amin type functions. The only negative I found was there is a max limit to the number of IP address reservations. This will NOT affect 99% of users so it's only an issue for users who need to identify more than circa 15 network devices by a reserved address, where the router itself is acting as dhcp. Most people will use the dynamic ip pool so will never be affected. None the less, why has a limit been set that is significantly below the possible.I did have rebooting issues in its first week of use but I believe this was caused by the broadband connection identifying and testing the new router, after the first week the router stabilised and is now rock solid and has not required a reboot for weeks. The tether app for your mobile devices can handle all the basic actions to make changes to your router and view connection details but if you want to do more complicated admin changes you will need to use the web browser interphase, (not really a negative point, but why have an app if it cannot mimic all the functionality of the web browser interphase). For the super geeky, Note (as per most routers) the error logging messages look like protocol extractions so are not immediately obvious as to what they mean but importantly, they are there.

Laura's review of TP-Link Archer VR2800 WiFi Modem Router - AC 2800, Dual-band
13 January 2022

Pros: Loved all the interactive stuff and being able to control it via an app on my phone. Great for sneaky teenagers trying to get on the internet past bed time! At first coverage and signal etc was great.Cons: Unfortunately, after around 9 months the signal went really bad and kept dropping out. So much so we had an engineer come out to look at our internet. Obviously, nothing wrong with it, so he suggested our router may be faulty. I went back to the network supplied router to check this theory. Well, that router had different problems of it's own! However, the network sent me a brand new upgraded router and so far ? it's been fine. So I can only assume both previous routers were faulty.

Paula's review of TP-Link Archer VR2800 WiFi Modem Router - AC 2800, Dual-band
26 July 2022

Pros: Due to our setup, we needed a modem router as the last one after 11 years died. The TPLINK is no better than the previous Netgear model but as it was simple to setup, gives the same sometimes better coverage, most of all it allows more devices. Over the last 11 years we have way more devices. Streaming with device plugged into remote unit works a lot better. Overall I would recommend.Cons: This modem/router allows you to switch the modem off. Shame it's not the other way around as I would of liked to get a more powerful router - WiFi mesh.

Peter's review of TP-Link ARCHER VR400 AC1200 Wireless VDSL/ADSL Modem Router
16 April 2022

Pros: The modem/router has maintained connection to the internet which was something the old one failed to do. No difference in Ethernet (wired) performance but wifi failures seem to have stopped.Cons: The box is a bit big and does not really fit on the mini shelf we have for the router. Perhaps the ability to mount flat on the wall would have been better for us.BT now has installed fibre in our street. The bad news is that this router is only ADSL so if we want fibre it would get chucked.

VPN feature is useless - If you just want a wireless modem its overpriced
26 July 2020

The VPN feature of this product is useless if you want to access your internal network. The product has the option for enabling it as a "VPN Server", but doesn't allow access to your internal subnet range. Having read forums of similar issues, responses from TP-Link have been that the VPN traffic once connect to the router is still treated as "external", so you have to open up ports using NAT and expose your internal network, as you do not have any control in the NAT options for where the external traffic is coming from. If you could choose the source as the VPN traffic it wouldn't be so much of an issue, but this cannot be done. This makes the VPN server feature of this router totally pointless. There is a hack for manually creating a route on your VPN connected computer to access the internal network, but this has been flakey to get operational and inconsistent. Having chatted to TP-Link support directly about it, they claim that "This router is a VPN pass-through only". Yet the router clearly has the option for enabling it as a "VPN Server" and is spruced as being VPN capable. If TP-Link allowed you to issue IP's to VPN connections from your internal address range, or allowed routing between the two networks, this would fix this issue. Yet the request has fallen on deaf ears.Don't buy it for its supposed VPN capabilities, you will be disappointed.

Very Good, shame about incorrect JL paperwork!
26 August 2022

This proved to be a big improvement in wireless speed, with some increased coverage, over the Type A BT smart hub that I had been using. Set-up on our Plusnet connection was straight forward and easy. It's a shame that the John Lewis 'Order and Returns Details', Product description is incorrect! It has it described as an 'AC1600WRLESS GGBIT VDSL/ADSL', the review email has it correctly described as follows - TP-Link Archer VR600 V3 Wireless MU-MIMO VDSL/ADSL Modem Router, AC2100.
