The Archer VR600 operates on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, delivering incredible wireless performance of up to 1.6Gbps. This simultaneous operation gives you the flexibility of two dedicated WLANs that you can assign different purposes to: Emailing, chatting and surfing at up to 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and simultaneous online gaming and HD video streaming at up to 1300 Mbps on 5 GHz. Internet on every connection The Archer VR600 can not only be connected to any DSL connection, but also works alternatively with a cable or fibre modem. In addition, operation is possible via an LTE/UMTS stick. This also serves as an Internet backup in case the DSL line fails. Stable WLAN coverage and extra range The three external antennas of the Archer VR600 ensure stable reception and optimal WLAN coverage. In addition, the router supports beamforming*, which allows it to determine the exact position of the connected end devices. This means that the WLAN signal is specifically emitted in the direction of the respective receiver - for an even greater range and reliability of the WLAN connection. Simple set-up and operation The Archer VR600 can be set up in minutes using the intuitive web interface and the Tether App. The Tether app enables easy network management, such as setting up access restrictions, at any time and from anywhere via any Android and iOS device.

A Big Improvement

The trick was to attach @plusdsl.net to my PlusNet user name as I went through the TP-Link set up. After that, it was a breeze. It's as well that I'd done some research, using the excellent PlusNet Community pages, on setting it up before it arrived. Immediately, I got far better quality wi-fi from it. I used to use a Netgear D7000 but as this does not have VOIP or phone connection I had to get a new Modem Router so as to be ready to switch from ADSL2 to FTTC NBN Broadband. Originally I had a nightmare time setting up the Netgear D7000 on ADSL2 using technical help to the highest level and a swap out. The TP-Link Archer VR600v was nothing like that. It was a breeze to set up on ADSL2 and fully worked first time. I was worried the WiFi range would be a problem but all my devices worked well so range is good in my large house. The management utility is also very easy to use and can be switched from Basic view, which is good, to advanced view if you want the real technical stuff. It had a good list of ISP's, mine included which have the configurations already built ... MoreI used to use a Netgear D7000 but as this does not have VOIP or phone connection I had to get a new Modem Router so as to be ready to switch from ADSL2 to FTTC NBN Broadband. I am very pleased with this purchase and recommend it as great value compared to some of my previous tech purchases.

The extra options and features are very good but it's not necessary to actually set them up. They do a great job of managing the network on their own. Port settings can be inputted manually for games easily. The only negative I have is ALL the lights seem to be permanently on so it's difficult to see when your network is active or whether your internet connection has gone down. Hopefully this will be fixed in a later firmware update.

Excellent Modem router with NBN FTTC support.
12 May 2020

Excellent modem router for large homes even double stories. It has really good coverage and easy setup. Product finish is of good quality too. Configuration UI is pretty decent and has all the parameters that one needed. I have Dodo NBN FTTC and this modem router is compatible with it. Product description from TP link miss this information but it is compatible. However, I faced quite a bit of problem getting it connected with the dodo. I put everything as in my old dodo supplied modem but it just gets disconnected. I even talked to a dodo technical support person and even they were affirm that all the settings are correct. I found out that if I plug any Ethernet cable into lan3 the internet was getting disconnected. I took the cable out and it got connected. Not sure if its my copy of the device or I am missing some settings. I am just using lan1 and lan2 for Ethernet connections along with a network lan hub. I also added 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for Primary DNS 1 and 2 as they were suggested in the support FAQ on the Tp link website. After that it is really working well with improved speeds and devices that were getting dropped off are no longer facing that problem. Phone line setup worked with a bit of tweaking. Dodo Voip preset did not work just with username and password. I had to select others in the telephony setup and add sip and outbound proxy to make it work. Get the username and password from the ISP. Search google for the correct settings and you will find it. I will recommend it highly.

Excellent router at an even better price.
13 August 2023

I needed a router that could do mer for Sky FTTC and this one does exactly that. As a bonus it also has a built-in VPN which is something else I was in the market for to save tying up a Raspberry Pi with that duty. The item came properly packaged in excellent condition and worked perfectly straight out of the box. For a 'refurbished' item it looks like brand new. The WiFi is excellent on it and the LAN is solid (the LAN failed on my Sky router necessitating the change). For the money (less than half the price of the cheapest 2800 I could find) this router is a no-brainer.

Fast set-up - or so I thought
31 July 2017

When I linked this up to my iMac the set-up was really fast and the wifi on both channels worked well and really quickly. However when I went away for a week and then switched back on, my iMac did not recognise this modem router and would not make a connection to the internet. This had never happened to me before so I didn't know what to do. In the end I opted for swopping the ethernet cable to the new one in the box and starting again from scratch to set it up again. This time it registered on my iMac Finder so I'm guessing there's something I didn't do originally when setting up the ethernet side. However you only get the Quick Installation Guide in the box which does not answer all questions! I'm still none the wiser as to why I had a problem. If it hadn't been for the problem I'd have probably been giving it 5 star ratings. However it's a bit upsetting to find a device does not work after it has been when all that has happened is I've been away for a week and unplugged all the devices before I went!PS Click and Collect worked really well and was faster than I was expecting.

Great value modem, runs smooth and fast
24 April 2017

I bought this modem back in September 2016, for my upcoming NBN (FTTN) connection going live. The parcel with the modem duly arrived at the office, and I proceeded to mimic the settings on the incumbent modem. This allowed me to swap them, with pretty much no downtime. At the time, the ADSL service was still running, and the VR600 picked it up without a hitch. When the time came for the NBN service to go live... of course, bureaucracy had to intervene. The booking that NBNco arranged, came and went with that wooshing sound that we all know and resent. However, right on schedule, my phone line was deactivated (a first for the big T), so I was left with no ADSL and no NBN. Joy. This modem has a special USB port in the back, which allows you to add a 4G mobile broadband dongle into it. So I did. And for 6 days, the VR600 distributed 4G internet to 6 computers throughout the office. Since then, my NBN connection was activated, and aside from a few very minor hiccups, it has not failed me. The VR600 that I have, runs 6 computers and laptops, 2 phones, 2 tablets, 3 VOIP phones and 2 IP Cameras. It gets a little warm, but it hasn't stopped working. Ever. I highly recommend this modem, and will be purchasing a second one for my home service, very soon. 250417

This router is a perfect ADSL/VDSL modem router with the goodness of 5GHz and 2.4GHz combination. In my case, all my smart devices I had fed with 2.4GHz and all the devices those are used for browsing are fed from 5GHz. So, eventually my overall Internet experience had been improved. Basic setup was damn easy. Few advanced setup terminology was different which needs some searching before continuing specially if someone is not familiar with this TP-Link terminology. WiFi signal strength is pretty stable and long reached for the 3 antennas. However, 2.4GHz seems more stable than the 5GHz. GUI was okay but could have been improved. Overall, this Router is almost perfect in every sense. The only improvement area could be in the GUI.

This gives a fairly minimal speed but this can be resolved easily by using the Advanced menu, from the on-screen user interface, and visiting Network > DSL Settings and then selecting the appropriate service from the drop down list that appears. This step may not be immediately obvious from the "Quick Start" guide but should be a fairly logical procedure anyway. If you choose to download the full User Guide, (and you really should!), make sure that you select the correct one as there are two different versions depending upon the hardware you are using. My purchase was actually v1, (not sure if v2, which has some significant technical differences, is available in store at the present time). Checking the firmware showed that it was all up to date, preloaded by the factory before release. A welcome change to the usual process whereby you purchase a supposedly up-to-date product and then find you have to update it straightaway.Wireless range is good and seems free from drop-outs which can be a problem on some routers.Looks? It is neat and compact. There is an option to turn off the various LED indicators although they are very unobtrusive. The brightest light is white LED on/off indicator in fact. So far the unit is running cool and seems to be exceptionally well ventilated.A good buy and is certain to be better and more useful that the usual kit supplied by your provider.

Good Points: I used this router to replace my Plusnet hub which has very poor wifi signal and I'm so please I did it.The router is in the front room and I have no issues with signal throughout my house, in my fully tiled bathroom and even at the end of the garden.Previously I'd struggle to use two devices in the same room, I can now have multiple devices in the same room using wifi simultaneously.Love the features of the router too, including the guest network.Improvement Points: I do think it's a bit pricy side however in the current climate of working from home it was a worthwhile investment. It was a bit tricky to set up however I think that was Plusnet...
