I bought this a week ago and have not been impressed with the Wifi performance. Firstly, even standing immediately in front of the router connected with Cat 6e to the NBN NTD I get 200 Mbps less than my connection speed. One room over and it drops another 100-150 Mbps. Next room over it is barely over the 300 Mbps mark. I have a 1000mbps plan. My old Telstra modem out performs the Deco's Wifi performance. Secondly, wifi coverage is limited and I have less coverage than my Telstra system. 2.4g is very disappointing and cameras that worked well on the old system cannot get a solid connection to the Deco system. Their email response times are stated as 24 hours, so I feel this is going to be a very frustrating endeavour. Unless they can fix it, which I doubt, then I will be seeking my money back.

I bought and returned the ASUS et12 ( never saw a speed improvement), a eero 7 max ( again not be able to see what is happening), ASUS x9 very good but frustrating with using the app and webpage to get working. I also was limited on speed. This BE85 blows them all the way. Great app, changes to setting does not mean long waits, speed of all my devices is insane. Has a nice guest AND a IOT network to keep thing organized. The mesh is insane. And even with one node I was getting better coverage and speed than the six eero pros with backhauls. I'm now getting 750 with occasional blips up to 850-900 Mbps with the Deco.Setup was "problematic" only because it was easier and faster than the app suggested. I was waiting for the satellites to emit certain color lights to indicate their status when they had already connected seamlessly almost instantaneously.Other reviews note the lack of ability to customize this Deco systems' settings. It certainly is not as "tweak-able" as the ASUS system, but it is sufficiently customizable for me. I wanted to designate my own DNS servers and it allows me to do that. There are other customizations available too. If my memory of the ORBI system serves, the Deco is far more customizable than the ORBI.The ASUS system has network security available for free though you're giving access to network traffic to a third party when you use it. When I tested the ASUS system, there was no hit to wifi speed when security was turned on. The Deco has minimal network security for free and maximized security via subscription. I haven't tested whether it degrades wifi speed.With qualification, I'd recommend the Deco BE85 as a solid upgrade to future-proof a network, but it seems too expensive and, for me at least, is not providing the insane speeds others have reported.

The internet service is "up to" 1.2 gbps / 35 mbps Xfinity (Comcast). I grabbed an Arris S33 multi-gig modem. Two 5 X 2.5 gbps unmanaged switches. All wires are cat 7. My computers and phone are modern enough for WiFi 6, but not 7 yet. That said, wifi speeds are obviously better with this brand new Deco mesh system - and now when I am in bed at night I can surf at 500 mbps on my iphone versus 125 mbps with my old system. Coverage is better because when I mow the lawn now I can get 360 mbps in the backyard when I couldn't get any reliable wifi in the yard with the old mesh, I rely on wired internet for my work pc, my personal gaming pc, and my wife's work pc. Now we get 960 mbps wired on my work pc and my gaming pc instead of 650 mbps from the old wired connection. I had no speed complaints previously, and I have no speed issues now.All an improvement, but nothing compares to the stability right out of the box. We are extensively on Zoom and Telehealth all day at our house and it can't be our fault if things are not working or if video or audio is choppy. It is fine if our employer’s network is down - just not us at home. It was stressful deciding to make a router change when the old system is plugging along and "only" locks up once or twice every month or two. The Deco has been flawless for us and I'm thankful for that and I recommend this product.
A long time "bring your own modem" person. I replaced a Google Nest Pro set up after getting fed-up with all of the ridiculous quirks. Google was helpful however my home had surpassed the limits of the the system and the flaws were evident.After researching for awhile, I settled on this TP-Link Deco 85, 3-pack. Google was helpful however my home had surpassed the limits of the the system and the flaws were evident.After researching for awhile, I settled on this TP-Link Deco 85, 3-pack. No issues with bandwidth.Also using an Arris SB8200 which has plenty of capacity.Overall, VERY impressed.

The app does a great job of guiding you through the setup. As soon as you have the main unit connected, the other two are already programmed to connect. Essentially, they become plug-and-play.Each Deco unit is rock solid in construction. It has 2x10Gbps and 2x2.5Gbps ports. This is great to have should I ever consider upgrading to a 2GB Internet service, which is not likely, but still futureproofing. The Decos also has a USB port to connect and network an external drive, which I found to be one of the most compelling features.After installation and network connection, I put the mesh unit in AP mode as two of the units had backhaul ethernet connections.I have a 1GB Internet feedI was elated to see significant wireless speed increases across my entire home with no dead spots. My speed increased to an average of 200mbps per location I tested. When I was within 6 feet of one of the wired Decos I would get a 600mbps connection (compared to 312mbps with the Eero). Further away from the nodes, I would see wireless speeds of 250mbps (compared to 54mbps with the Eero).I should note here that, according to the Deco app, I believe everything was connected to the 2.4Ghz/5 Ghz network so I don't even know if my devices were taking advantage of WiFi 6 or WiFi 7. Since I used the same SSID and password of my Eero mesh, almost everything immediately connected to the new network.THE BADMy five Nest cameras disconnected. Surprisingly, my Ring cameras remained connected. I am pretty confident I could have manually removed and then added each of the Nest cameras to the new mesh network, but that is a huge hassle given the fact it can't be done through the Nest app. I have to get up on a ladder and rescan the QR code on each camera which is a major, major hassle. I would have done it, however, if not for the next issue...My devices were constantly disconnecting and then reconnecting to the network for 10 hours post-installation. This included my iPhone, my laptops, and my Amazon devices.I did extensive Google research and played around with some recommended changes in the Deco app. This included turning off roaming and manually telling each connected client to disconnect from the mesh network, none of which helped. Mind you, these were all TP-LINK support recommendations.I did come across something that made me decide I needed to return this Deco mesh system...Countless -- and I mean countless complaints on Reddit and other message boards about network instability with many of the TP-LINK Deco mesh systems.Don't believe me? Google, "TP-LINK DECO DISCONNECTS" and you will be horrified with the results that you find.These things are essentially trash. For so many people to have the same mesh network instability that I am currently experiencing, tells me that this is a highly unreliable brand. And, sure, there are many positive reviews on Amazon (as well as bad ones), and generally only people who have issues with their products end up posting a bad review --- but it's still very obvious to me that this is not a reliable product. Many posts I read indicated that customers who returned their TP-LINK looked to move to Eero.CONCLUSIONI am back on my old Eero system. Everything is working fine, albeit I'm back to slower wireless speeds, which for the moment, is okay.I would consider upgrading to the Eero Pro 6+ mesh units (at around $300 for a 3-pack on sale), but I am not certain they will give me significant gains as the more powerful Deco units did.Then there's the Eero Pro 7 Max. It will probably come down to $1k for a 3-pack soon, but it's not getting very good reviews.I may just have to suck it up and remain with my 2nd generation Eero mesh system until better hardware gets released.

Each one has a WPS button, two 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports, two 10 Gbps Ethernet ports: one of which is a combo port with the SPF+ fiber port, and a USB 3.0 port for adding networked devices like printers and hard drives. Connected USB storage devices can also be used as the backup disk for Apple’s Time Machine for MacOS devices. The router has no on/off switch and will simply power on when plugged in. There is a status LED at the front of the base, just below the logo. The color and flashing pattern will show its current status, though it is typically a solid green when working correctly. Unfortunately, the status light cannot be dimmed or disabled so placing a node in a bedroom may not be the best choice for those sensitive to light pollution at night.Since the three routers are identical, it doesn’t matter which one you decide to setup as the primary; just connect it directly to your modem using the included flat WiFi 6 cable. You’ll need to download the Deco app to a mobile device and proceed with setup in the app after registering an account or logging in. Setup takes a mere 5 minutes and once the main router is setup, you simply choose a spot for the satellite nodes, plug them in, and they will set themselves up within a few minutes.We placed the primary node on our third story and each of the satellites roughly in the middle of the floors below. We usually experience significant signal strength and speed drops on the first floor, especially at the limits of the property, but the Deco really surprised us with the strength of the signal in places we usually see dead spots and drop offs. When comparing the data transfer speeds between our previous WiFi 6 Mesh system and the Deco, it was nearly double. We saw average download and upload speeds of over ~500Mbps and ~25Mbps respectively everywhere within the property and usable speeds of 50Mbps down/16 Mbps up at the margins, four stories down and 120 ft away from the main router.According to the network map, the router on the first floor is able to wirelessly backhaul directly to the main router rather than use the node on the second floor as an intermediary hop. We have over 50 smart/IoT devices from outlets, to lights and switches, as well as all of our screens and media devices connected to our network and have experienced less congestion in the network as well as improvements in stability and reliability. You can even create a dedicated WiFi network just for IoT devices, however, I didn’t see an option to create a limited/restricted guest network.While the 5 GHz channel operates on 160 MHz bandwidth by default, you can set it to use 80 or 240 MHz to avoid interference, though be aware that clients that don’t support the higher DFS frequency channel width may not be compatible, and it could cause connectivity issues if you live near an airport as this range overlaps with radar systems. You also have the option to enable MLO which allows WiFi 7 clients to connect to multiple bands simultaneously to achieve faster connections speeds and reduce latency.If you don’t have any WiFi 7 capable devices, you can set the system to use the 6 GHz channel as a dedicated wireless backhaul in order to maintain consistent speeds at each node. Just note that you cannot enable both MLO and dedicated wireless backhaul at the same time. If you prefer, you have the option for 10 Gbps wired backhaul instead; just note that when using the combo 10Gbps/SPF+ ports, only one type will work at a time.The Deco app is user-friendly and easy to navigate. You’ll use it to modify WiFi settings, enable device prioritization, create static routing rules, setup VPN, WPS and more. I choose WPA2/WPA3 Personal WiFi encryption to ensure that devices that are capable use the latest security standard while still allowing some of our older legacy devices to connect until we no longer use or have them. Built-in parental controls help you protect your kids by allowing you to set time controls, monitor usage, pause internet to specific devices on-the-fly, block websites or filter URLs by content type. You can create separate profiles for each child as well, and then assign devices to each profile.The system came with a 30-day trial of HomeShield Pro, TP-Link’s monthly subscription that provides web, intrusion, and IoT protection against hackers and malicious websites. You’ll also get expanded parental controls and additional reports on usage as part of the service.Overall, the Deco WiFi 7 Mesh System is a nice upgrade from our previous one, with faster internet speeds throughout our home, more consistent and reliable connections for seamless roaming, and plenty of additional settings and parental controls built-in. Setup was quick and simple, and we get excellent coverage even outside of the home.

Over the past few years we have been through several mesh Wi-Fi systems and, being a fan of anything techy, am always keeping my eye out for the next best thing and the Deco mesh system was right up my alley.Full disclosure, we have dozens of smart home products scattered throughout our home and there is nothing more frustrating when I can’t get the best internet quality wherever I may be in our house which is two stories and approximately 3900 square feet. We are also fortunate enough to have fiber optic gig speed internet ran into our house and CAT 6 wiring capable of providing 10 gig speeds although we only opted for 1 gig speed for the time being. I have several smart televisions, game systems, laptops, smart switches/plugs, tablets, voice-controlled screens/speakers, phones, etc. at any given moment tapped into the same Wi-Fi network. Therefore, our network periodically would be strained at times using our previous Wi-Fi 6 mesh routers so I was excited to see what this system could offer.Out of the box, the mesh system was relatively simple to set up with three interchangeable nodes and power adapters to scatter around our house in planned out areas to get the best Wi-Fi. After plugging in the node and connecting the ethernet to our CAT 6 port, I was ready to start the set up via the Deco smart phone app. The app recognized and connected to the first node with ease and took me through the step-by-step process to locate a feasible area in our house for the other two nodes. Within less than ten minutes, everything was set up and connected. I changed the name of our Wi-Fi and password to mirror our previous system that way I didn’t have to change all the settings in every device in our home to a new network. Everything was very simple and seamless as you would expect from a mesh network system with all the bells and whistles. Through the app I am able to monitor all the devices in our house, perform network speed tests, receive notifications when new devices are connected to our network amongst other things I typically don’t mess with.One thing I have noticed from our previous system is that the Deco is much more stable and transitions between nodes more seamlessly. I’m sure this is due to the new technology built into the Deco system which can provide 10 Gbps with a hard-line connection, 12 streams with the tri-band Wi-Fi, stay connected up to 9600 square feet and connect up to 200 devices. The mesh system can provide 6 GHz, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi which is great to have options depending on the capability and need on certain devices. The nodes themselves have eight high gain antennas to provide coverage in all directions, a quad-core processor and two internal cooling fans to handle all the power under its hood. With the HomeShield enhanced security you can manage online time and block inappropriate content with parental controls and block potential threats to your network.Overall, the top notch, newest technology, TP Link Deco tri-band mesh network system is by far the best mesh network system we have had in our household and I would recommend it to anyone in the market for a mesh network.
