Excellent product, especially when used with a controller. I purchased three of these and added them as a new site on an existing controller, linked via a VPN connection. We're in an area with very poor phone signal, and we can now use WiFi calling reliably, with phones moving between access points as required.Throughput on 5GHz is fantastic and range is good if sited in a high position. I've found it best to have the 2.4GHz antenna vertical and the 5GHz antenna horizontal - this gives the best coverage and speed.

I bought one because I wanted a no-fuss Access Point after moving to a dedicated PFSense router for my home. THe EAP225 is very impressive; easy to set up, high performance, great management networks. So after a few weeks I bought another one, retired a Meraki access point in the far corner of the house, and added the Omada controller, and in 15 minutes I have a band-steered mesh network with backhauling. Quite an incredible upgrade to the home network, didn't cost much, and very easy to set up. Basically I just plugged things in and it worked: one wifi network, clients join the nearest one and roaming works well. Comes with a EoP adapter too, which I did not expect.

I love the EAP range of wireless access points because they are really simple to use and really effective. I use the (free) recommended Omada software to administer a number of these devices around our house, and another installation at a small business. As soon as I connect a new access point to the network, it appears in the admin tool and its then just a case of clicking adopt, and it instantly gets configured with all of my default settings. I can then go in and set up a fixed IP address. Great that these have some Enterprise grade features like VLANS, and I love that they can use POE, but also come with a POE injector. Moving around the house or business is seamless. I never seem to drop off WiFi. Bought 6 of these for a church. These APs are a great option for creating centrally managed and secure campus-wide WiFi coverage. More affordable and manageable than the emerging mesh routers. Useful in some home applications but they shine in an SMB application - that is where they are designed to work.Cons: Pay close attention to the hardware version, the latest is 4. If you plan to order a number of these, get them all at the same time to assure you get the same hardware version. Also, if your site is subject to electrical storms, you should install surge protectors on long e-net cables that plug into these APs. They seem to be sensitive to even small electrical surges on the data line.

Ive discovered they are extremely sensitive to any surge on the data lines.Over the past year Ive replaced all 6, some multiple times, due to damage during electrical storms. I now have data line surge protectors on both ends of all Cat5e runs that pass through walls, ceilings, or subsurface conduits. This seems to protect all but 1 unit that still gets fried every couple months. That one unit has been replaced 4 times so far.And yes, the power is protected by a properly earth-grounded surge protected power strip which is plugged into a UPS with earth ground. The AP data line is plugged into a switch with a 1-foot patch cable. Data lines coming into the switch are all surge protected. very poor range. 5GHz together with 2.5GHz does not work, you have to decide for one. you can configure both, but then 5GHz dies after some minutes. even nightly restarts do not prevent a very poor coverage. the sunrise modem 2 levels below in the basement performs much better. in the past, i had similarly bad experience with other tp-link products. i'll avoid them in future.
