TP-Link KC120 Kasa Camera H.264, 1080p, 2-Way Audio, Motion Detect

I've had this security camera in my apartment for years. I originally bought it because I liked being able to see my cats when I was away from home, but I ended up networking two of them to watch my entryway. It's super easy to set up, and the Kasa app works without a hitch. My only beef with it is that Kasa doesn't allow a local save option, just cloud uploads that they want to charge you a subscription for, and that's something I just refuse to do because it's straight up unnecessary and blatantly just a cash grab. A microSD card would work perfectly fine. Unfortunately, the vast majority of internet connected cameras are subscription.

After spending weeks researching home 1080p security cameras, I decided to give the TP-Link Kasa Cam a try. My decision to do so was helped along by the fact that I am a (very satisfied) user of TP-Link smart Wi-Fi switches and plugs. I really couldn't be happier with the Kasa Cam. It does take a bit of trial-and-error to establish placement, orientation and sensitivity levels (as with any camera of this type). Once that was taken care of, the camera's performance has lived up to everything good that's been said about it in user reviews. I experience few false triggers, few missed triggers, quick response and very short lag times. Low light "reach" and performance in near-total darkness is very good. I highly recommennd the TP-Link Kasa Cam KC120.

Pros: Excellent Clear image . So easy to use once set up . An excellent security camera . Cons: Ability to remove/delete more than one clip of video at a time would be a great addition. Deleting can be a time consuming tedious chore.

Excellent quality camera

Excellent quality camera, especially for the price. Great as a security camera or baby monitoring camera. No Hub or subscription required, 24 hours of alerts saved to the cloud automatically which can be downloaded and stored. No issues with the sound for me as reported by other reviews. I find the sound quality is very good for a security camera. I have 2 of these plus one of the outside cameras. Plenty of options and settings to tweak to adjust quality and sensitivity.

Good value for money, until you need support.

Well, I used to be. Recently a camera failed and I had the unfortunate experience to unsuccessfully try out TP-Link warranty process. Here is what I found out: - Phone line agents are incompetent and keep transferring you around with long wait times in between. Great Pic quality, Poor Sound quality.

Camera was very easy to set up. Good picture quality. The sound quality from the cam to the phone is reasonably good. We are using it as security and to oversee our father who suffers from dementia at 91 years of age. 2 issues. 1. I wanted to set it up to work with 2 different user accounts so my sister and I could both watch. The cam can only be connected to one user account so I must share my account with her. 2. The sound going from the phone to the camera is very poor and very quiet. Really not usable to speak to Dad through the cam. Disappointing sound quality.for a camera at this price.

Got the Kasa Cam KC-120, in the beginning, I was happy with the device, it was a breeze to install, image quality was great. But after an hour or so it lost the connection. Re-connecting it was a bit complicated but the connection didnt hold for more than an hour. Their customer service is OK, they are very eager to get off the phone. They told me to reset the device and reconnect while waiting for it to reconnect the told me to call back once its connected. Its not very reassuring for a customer that they are here to support their customers. Sounds more like they must get to the next call. Didnt like the idea that they dont have a desktop app to view the feed, and on the app itself, you cant silent the audio. OK Camera and App

The camera is OK at its pricepoint ($60-75), which is down from $120. I bought mine Refurbished at $40. The mobile app is not great, but does its job. It integrates without much trouble into the Google Home's subpar ecosystem, and will stream video to the display hub, chromecast, or your phone. Sadly, there's no PC interface, and config options are limited (sound/movement detection). Unfortunately the material chosen for the stand is fragile. It looks and feels like metal, but crumbles easily. I reported this to support, and they promised to 'consult and get back to me'. So definitely buy an extended warranty.

This is much cheaper (though I got the nest on sale for $160... it's still $30) and gives you 2 days (up to 1GB) of cloud storage for free. That right there is what makes it worth it because every other cam (worth having) requires a subscription after a trial period. The quality of the product is MUCH better than nest was (I also have a pretty good foscam spy camera that records to SD, Kasa Cam wins against that, too). Setup was a piece of cake, but to be fair I'm pretty technical. I do understand the other reviewers issue about the white cord, but ultimately I think they went that route because of the probability people will run this camera somewhere where the wire will be against a wall... and there is an abundantly more amount of white trim/light color walls (or just walls that look better with white than black). Even if you're hiding the camera, odds are the wire will be hidden also. So, the times when a black wire would be a better choice are minimal and it's just easier to let the user use one of the thousands they have lying around. It only lets you schedule the 'on/off' setting, i.e. when you go to work. Nest has a location setting where if you're home it won't notify you. So Kasa will basically shut off or turn on at times you designate... Nest you could leave on all the time but then not get notified constantly while at home; meanwhile when you are out on a random trip you'll get a notification saying there was motion. To achieve this with Kasa you'd have to turn it off then turn it on when you leave. Again, I think a software update to the app will come out and fix this. Also, it doesn't appear that is linked up to Google home yet (which would make the above issue a little less taxing)... but again, I'm sure it's incoming given all their other stuff is linked. I think that's it.

Pros: Easy to set up and use. You can have the cams live streams on Google Nest Hub, Hub Max and Chromecasts connected to the television. Detects motion and sound. Cons: Sound detection is very sensitive and even on lowest setting it triggered alerts from noise in the commonways of the flats. I just use motion detection.
