A solid, generic 5-port switch. If you need one, this one is perfectly OK. The smooth-angled design is annoying too work with and the top picks up fingerprints easily. The indicator LEDs won't blind you. The unit doesn't seem to heat up noticeably. The power cord is a good length.

This TP-LINK Network Switch - Black (TL-SG1005D) is great just because it has one more port than the one I originally had! We are a tech family, so this is a big deal! The design is sleek and modern, sets nicely on top of a desk or shelf and easy to install. We have a hub for all of our devices and this is a great addition to it. With all of our technology it is also great to know that this adjusts the power to those that are idle, which reduces power, saving energy and $$$. I’d recommend this network switch given its features, design and effectiveness. I received this product in exchange for my honest review and feedback.

This TP-LINK Network Switch - Black (TL-SG1005D) is great just because it has one more port than the one I originally had! We are a tech family, so this is a big deal! I have all TP-Link stuff so thought this would fit the bill. I have powerline adapters. Since I have several devices for work, I wanted something I could plug them all into to share the connection. This seemed to be the solution. I plugged the powerline adapter into the unit and then a phone and two computers in to the ports.It worked for a bit. Speed was fine and was performing well. However, I noticed that at least 3-4 times in an average 8 hour period, the connection would just drop. Most of the time I'd have to unplug this unit and plug back in. Then it would be back up. I did several test to isolate the problem. When plugged into the powerline unit it did not drop. When plugged into this unit, it did. After testing I determined it to be the culprit and ... I did experience the 5-port switch downgrading all devices to Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) speeds even though the links on both computers are verified at 1.0 Gbps. Transfers between them topped out at 90 Mbps. I swapped the TP-Link Litewave switch for an older Trendnet Gigabit switch and it gets 900 Mbps throughput. A contributing factor to the performance degradation may be chaining the 5-port Litewave to an 8-port Litewave, then to the router. This smells strongly of a firmware bug. It's smaller than a metal case 5-port GreenNet Gigabit switch I got years ago, and I thought that one was small. Some people are concerned by the plastic case, but let me assure you that it's not an issue here. It barely gets warm, and I keep it in an enclosed closet. It's fast and has been reliable. I also bought the TP-Link Litewave 5-port Gigabit switch (LS1005G) and it has identical performance with the 8 port version. The only difference is the number of ports.
Good Points: Very good value for money for a 5 port giga bit switch. All I needed to do was to plug the power and Ethernet cables in switch and then forget about it. I've had no problems with it over the two months it's been switched on. Also I've noticed no negative impact on the performance of my gigabit network. I purchased this as I'd run out of ports on my 8 port gigabit switch (netgear). Buying this gave me three additional gigabit ports, you need one port from each switch to connect them together. This was cheaper and easier to install than a 16 port switch in place of the 8 port switch.Improvement Points: Nothing.

This is my second one, for home use LAN. I've been running the first one for more than six months, no issues or hiccups whatsoever. The case is plastic & gives the unit an inexpensive overall feel, BUT you get what you pay for in that respect. The price matches this design. Testing: speeds & efficiency fantastic, can handle large simultaneous loads NP. I have at least 12 different computers spread around the house, all SSD's capable of pumping & receiving large amounts of data (no mechanical hard drives anywhere), & this thing does excellent with all my tests. If you need something simple that gets the job done for a great price, & dont care about looks, this is recommended.
After updating to a new Comcast Router, having only 2 Ethernet ports, I was short 2 more. One was needed for a WD Network HDD, and I tried unsuccessful to utilize an older (but working) Netgear 4-port switch I had laying around. Other devices connected to the switch worked (a high speed printer HP Officejet Pro X476dw), but not the WD Network HDD.Then I bought the TP-LINK TL-SG1005D 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch...and magic happened:I Just replaced the old switch with the new one, without any need for configurations etc...and the WD HDD was recognized right away and now works perfectly.This TP-LINK TL-SG1005D switch is very inexpensive and saved me a lot of trouble.I highly recommend this switch.
