We bought this in December 2022, ready to cook for our family's Christmas Eve dinner in subzero windchill temperatures. We upgraded from our Pro 575.The grill held temperature fantastically with the cold temperatures in an uncovered deck. The meat and sweet potatoes were all cooked perfectly. We've used it again for several other meals (bison burgers, pot roast, porterhouse) and it maintains temperature, pellet level, and Meater signal perfectly. We were skeptical after reading reviews, but we've had nothing but a great experience using the grill. We have not used the induction burner yet. We look forward to continue cooking more meals with it - it's our preferred cooking method for all meat.

Having owned and cooked on several traeger grills in the past, I was excited to see traeger innovating with this new grill. Everything appeared to be working but I noticed it was set to 500 halfway through the seasoning and would not get above 370. Once it hit 370 it actually started cooling down til it 70 degrees by the time it finished seasoning. No errors at all as a matter of fact it said seasoning complete.I called support and after three hours of troubleshooting and testing it would appear the grill won’t get anywhere near correct temp. I can set the temp to 400 and it will sit at 170 and actually tell me it has reached the temp on the grill and on the app. (Keep in mind it took 25 minutes to get to 170). Traeger support was escalating to beta team and tier 4 support and said they would call me back and give me update. They called me back and said they are thinking it might be firmware and they will probably get back to me sometime next week. So I knew I need to write a review. Here is my problem and I will change the review if this gets fixed but traeger released this grill to influencers nearly a month ago. I waited til yesterday when I could buy and after a month of beta testing with influencers you are still selling a nearly $4000 grill that basically is just a lawn ornament at this time and rather than sending someone immediately to fix, their answer was hopefully sometime next week as it might be a software issue and they have to figure it out.I am extremely disappointed. I was super excited to get this grill. After finding out support had back to back calls on the first day around here we were able to buy, this is a major ball drop from traeger. Until they fix this, I will leave this review up. I will edit if they actually follow through with my experience when I can actually cook on it.****Buyer beware if you are looking at picking this up this weekend****

Buyer beware, you are beta testing a grill. I have had the new Traeger Timberline grill for 3 months, and have spent more time on phone with support than cooking. The grill hasn't worked properly from the day I got it. The grill light won't work, the connection to the internet is spotty, the grill couldn't keep a consistent temp (+/- 40 degrees at times), and then the control panel completely bricked on me during my 3rd cook (won't turn on/off, light up...do anything). After many hours on the phone, Trager's solution is to send me a completely new hopper assembly and rely on the customer to spend hours replacing it by disconnect/re-connecting dozens of wires and screws. And of course the video tutorial didn't even match the order of operations actually needed to ... MoreBuyer beware, you are beta testing a grill. Hopefully they can get it fixed. This grill is NOT ready for the market. Wish I had my money back...but of course Traeger couldn't honor that request either because I bought it through Ace Hardware (not directly through them). I would give this grill and Traeger negative one star if I could.

I started with the Costco Silverton 620, but quickly upgraded to the Timberline 1300 when I realized I needed more grilling surface. When the XL was released, I was happy to see all the added bells and whistles, so I upgraded again to this one. It took SEVERAL attempts by the delivery personnel and Traeger Support Team to get the unit connected to the app and internet, and after countless hours on the phone we were able to make that happen. But it was a short-lived victory. The grill will not stay connected, no matter how many times I reboot the modem/router, drop all other devices from the network, or repair the grill. I've spent more time trying to get the thing connected than I have grilling! Don't get me wrong, if you want to have the absolute best tasting food ... MoreI started with the Costco Silverton 620, but quickly upgraded to the Timberline 1300 when I realized I needed more grilling surface. I've spent more time trying to get the thing connected than I have grilling! Don't get me wrong, if you want to have the absolute best tasting food on the block, this is definitely the grill for you....but I don't believe I should've paid $4000 for something that works just like every other "regular" grill. I purchased this model for the ease of use and convenience, but when the grill won't even connect to the app, it's up and down the stairs to make adjustments and check on things -- just as it would be with a grill about 1/10th this price. When it works, it's great, but because I'm getting far more exercise than I planned to, I feel I need to knock it down a few stars.
I’d love to give them a 5 – and certainly do for the food, but for the product, I have to drop to a 3. So I’ll make it a generous overall 4. I think they rolled it out before it was ready. Customers should never be the Quality Assurance department, and at this price point, there should be zero issues.I have been using a lump charcoal smoker (Komodo style) for years, so know my way around smoking food. I was looking for a Natural Gas Grill for an outdoor kitchen I am building. I found the new Traeger Timberline and it said it was both a smoker and a grill, so I figured, one grill doing both products: Great! I found the new Traeger Timberline and it said it was both a smoker and a grill, so I figured, one grill doing both products: Great! My lump charcoal smoker can also be used as a grill, but I liked the idea of "set it and forget it" temperature.Well, yes you can grill on it, but the first time it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to 450-degree. I was on the phone with support for an hour of that - maybe more. I ended up eating a ham sandwich for dinner. The second time it was quicker – 45 minutes. On a call with support, they told me the grill "learns" and will get faster each time. I hope so, because if it continues like this may end up with a gas grill anyway. They also said it takes loner because the heat is “indirect heat”. It is not like a gas or charcoal grill where the meat is right above the flames. Makes sense.I will say this - the steaks were terrific.I cooked a couple whole chickens at 350-degrees. I smoked them first at 225 for an hour, the brought it up to 350. Didn’t notice any issues with the temp. It got to 225 within 15 minutes and I wasn’t watching it go to 350 – I was watching the meat temperature. They were terrific too – very moist.Smoked a 10-lb pork butt – very happy with that cook. Smoked for 22 hours with real issues.I have no complaints about the food cooked in this – just the time to temp when grilling – and I hope that improves. It seems like it is.Issues:My second wireless probe never syncs to the grill. The hopper is a poor design. It does hold an entire bag, but the hopper creates a hollow tunnel – like a whirlpool – where the pellets drop into the fire chamber. The pellet sensor is right over that, so I keep getting alerts that I am low on pellets, and I must move the pellets around in the hopper to make it happy again. Not cool on long cooks. The grill seems to send a “Pre-Heat Finished” alert after 15 minutes – never when the grill is actually to the goal temperature. I’ve mentioned this to Traeger support while on my calls with them – they say they are looking into this.Don’t buy this expecting to get rid of your gas grill. This isn’t that.Doesn’t hold temp as well as expected. The walls are single wall construction, so it makes sense – I just wasn’t expecting it to vary as much as it did – about 10-degrees hotter at times, and a few degrees cooler. On the plus side:The wireless technology is very good. My old lump charcoal smoker had a third party device that controlled the temperature and such, but it worked off Bluetooth. That was horrible. This thing lets me know what’s going on no matter where I am in the house. That’s a huge point in favor of this.Does a great smoke flavor. I don’t notice the smoke rings that I saw on the lump charcoal, but definitely taste it.The end result is a really tasty meal.Traeger has exceptional customer support. I have never called for support and had the level of service these guys provide. They certainly set the bar for customer support.
Long, but worth a read from someone who spent hard earned money for this smoker instead of receiving as a promotion*To begin, I was a Traeger hater not because of social media but due to the fact that the Pro 22 I had 3 years ago wasn’t great. It was a basic entry pellet smoker and that was it; not a grill to sear or for use in the winter. From that point on, I went back to using other pellet grill brands and mostly charcoal grills such as a Kamado, a Bronco, and a MB 850. I had rid myself of the Traeger brand only committing to returning if they made something worth while with a better warranty. Low and behold, the year had arrived.I was a little skeptical at the beginning pre live stream “release” with even seeing a leaked box and price on reddit. I had rid myself of the Traeger brand only committing to returning if they made something worth while with a better warranty. Low and behold, the year had arrived.I was a little skeptical at the beginning pre live stream “release” with even seeing a leaked box and price on reddit. I was a little offended by the price simply because I was a “hater” still and shrugged it off as stupid. The live stream happened and what everyone thought, I had believed as well: it was beyond beautiful but the tag was insane for a pellet grill. Two weeks went by & I kept going back to the new Traeger to look at it and understand that this is what I had personally wanted from Traeger: A larger warranty, no paint to peel from heat, and the ability to sear. The extras are a bonus such as better smoke flavor, and a new easy cleanup. So a week and a half before today’s (Apr 22) official launch that everyone could start buying, I purchased one which to me was a huge risk. Almost two weeks later I have to say it is living up to the hype. A little buggy from the get go (the automated seasoning pre programmed in the controller bugged out and stopped) but a massive improvement from previous models. I would say being well versed in grills or specifically pellet grills has helped with the new beta software, but she is a beaut.Smoke flavor is better than most if not all pellet grills on the market (still have not used super smoke-not needed much now) and I attribute this to the new delivery by the AI in the controller. From start up (literally from ignition) to shutdown you are receiving blue smoke constantly. It runs as smoothly as an offset in terms of constant delivery of wood flavor and smoke production (obviously taste is not the same considering scientifically pellets are just less moist for offset flavor). The induction works flawlessly and can produce excellent searing on your cast iron without overheating said cast iron and transferring cast iron flavor to your protein.I have to say I am impressed with the new Timberline XL and by the craftsmanship of the grill itself. Built to last is hard to relate to a reader but the paint is gone and replaced with an enamel type finish. The grill feels like its worth the money for once (sorry Traeger) and the 10 year warranty has at the very least quelled any fears for the future. In my opinion, this is Traeger's first “premium” grill. Not the timberline Gen 1. So as to whether it is worth it? Yes, absolutely. If you have the financial ability to do so, this grill does edge out most of the competition if not all of it. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but Traeger has finally earned my respect. I may not be a fan boy but this grill gives me the ability to defend the naysayers for once without being one myself any longer. Im more than happy with the product they rolled out and again, for once it looks like they have genuine care for a product of theirs in terms of build quality. Have a good one ya’ll.P.S. I still recommend purchasing a front shelf for extra space.
I bought the new Timberline in Dec. I bought the smaller unit rather than the Xl as it suited my requirements. I had a bit of trouble getting the wifi set up. After trying a few times to get wifi connected I did some research with my internet provider. I found information that recommended I install an app from the Apple App Store called “RouteThisHelps”. I believe android also has this app. I also found a Traeger recommendation to try this. I installed the app and I was able to hook up to wifi immediately. I’ve made pork ribs and chicken wings so far and this grill has been amazing. The Traeger app is also amazing, I can monitor the whole cook while inside the warm house rather than the brutal cold we’ve had in Saskatchewan, Canada. Bought my Traeger in 11/22 of last year, honestly I used the grill a total of 20 cooks, ranging from brisket, and Turkey. This grill has been kept clean following each cook, the reason I’m giving this grill a 1-star is not for the flavor of the impact the smoke from this grill has, nor is it against Traeger’s awesome customer service. It all started when my grill ran the first firmware update after a couple cooks. The fault was an igniter “missing” upon self test it would no longer work, Step1 call Traeger they sent an igniter out and in no time it arrived, installed and secured wiring housing. Turned grill on and man we were back in business-for about a minute- 0025/0024/0031? Every single code was popping up like this grill was out of its mind. Step 2 call Traeger, by this point I’m out of ideas and I’ve self tested the grill to be sure, next step given by Traeger, replace the lid sensor. Perfect, if that’s the fix no problem. Traeger shipped it out and boom it arrived in no time, I slapped that puppy on and I did the reset. I prayed to the BBQ Lord that this be the fix, danced my bbq rain dance and then… I heard it, the Armageddon of beeps all three codes popping up and taunting me. I’ve placed a lot of faith in this grill and it’s not cheap by any means. I think this might be the definitive end for using this Traeger if the next solve being sent doesn’t work.
Just bought this 2 days ago. Apparently the software to connect your phone to the grill is not formatted correctly. Grill wants to connect to a Yosemite grill with a passcode 6 digits and my phone wants to pair with a 4 digit number ! After 5 hrs 2 daysOf calling, they wanted me to put in a new motherboard. It's brand new! So I'm not going to tear down a new timberline electronic plate and replace a new motherboard it should have worked in the first place. DO NOT BUY A ELECTRONIC GRILL! too many problems with them that I found out stick to old fashioned grills...
I bought the Ironwood XL at Minnesota State Fair. Was never told there was a 45 day return policy. It hasn't worked properly from the day it was delivered. I have had 8 phone calls with customer service and still don't have a grill that works. Was told the flame sensor was not working, showed that on the screen and that it would have to be taken apart to check. Now the service says that it is working and the pellet sensor isn't working. I plan to report Traeger to the BBB. I was mislead from the salesperson that sold the grill and the customer service received from Traeger is not what I would have expected.
