I got this for my Hackintosh (HP Elitebook 840 G2). The Hack already had a Crucial SSD (500GB) that I was using for the boot drive, which is fast and works well, but I was using less than half of the drive's capacity. I added the Transcend and cloned my Mac partition to it using SuperDuper!, and then manually copied the EFI partition over. I pulled the SSD and booted up to see if it would work. Worked on the first try. I reinstalled the SSD, then added 2 more partitions to the SSD, one which will eventually contain a copy of my iTunes library, and the other which will be used for auxiliary storage. I now back up the Transcend to the SSD, which is very convenient, plus I can boot up from the SSD if anything happens to the Transcend. I thought it would have booted a lot faster, but that may be because I need to reconfigure something. It's still WAY faster than even a 7200 RPM traditional hard drive. The most difficult part of the process was getting the computer to recognize the Transcend drive. While I was researching what type of M2 drive to get, I found a very old post on the HP web site that explained how to do it. Can't remember the exact details, but it involved going into the BIOS and enabling RAID (go figure...), rebooting and getting a BSOD, rebooting into the BIOS and putting things back they were before the the RAID thing, and then letting the system come up normally. THEN the computer could see the drive. In my research I saw some posts about people not being able to use an M2 in this computer as a Windows boot drive. I don't use Windows, so I can't speak to that subject. Recommended.

I installed this in a Lenovo T440 to improve performance and reliability (I had concerns about the existing HDD). It's the primary boot drive now and replaced the wireless modem that came in the Lenovo T440. Pros: Capacity, Price, Reliability, Speed, Technology, Cons: This may not be a good DIY project for the inexperienced as laptops can be tough to disassemble without causing damage. Not an issue with this drive but; everything worked well for many months until I did a driver update, and now sometimes when the computer is doing a reset it says there is an error in the PCIe slot but it correctly identifies that this drive is in there and not the old modem. I just have to power it down and turn it on and it works fine again. I just have to power it down and turn it on and it works fine again. Hopefully, when all the updates are complete that won't happen anymore. As I said, this isn't an issue with the M.2 it's a Lenovo T440 issue for those who may be considering a swap like I did. I'm writing this review from the T440 so it really isn't a big issue. Update May 17th, 2020: I’ve learned there is an unintended condensation issue with Lenovo’s T440 near the PCIe slot which is intended for the wireless modem (where the m.2 is installed). The swap to a device that draws more power more often creates more condensation and evaporation causing a mineral buildup leading to failed communications. I’ve researched a solution and will post another update if it resolves the issue. Update Aug 30, 2020: I opened up the laptop to clean the terminals the other day. Unfortunately my T440 was not experiencing the buildup known to cause the particular error. I cleaned it anyway but it did not resolve the issue. I’ll update if I can find another solution to test. Otherwise, good saving habits pretty much eliminate any loss making the unexpected error, which results in a reboot, little more than a minor inconvenience.

PRO: Great build quality and ease of installation. Good initial speed as advertised. Made by the only reliable and affordable brand for m.2 2242 form factor. 5 years of warranty and abundant 280 TBW endurance. CON: Higher price than SSDs of the other SATA form factors (m.2 2280 or 2.5"). COMMENT: At a large file copy, it starts with ~900MB/s (DRAM) and slow down to ~450 MB/s (SLC cache) and slow down again to ~280 MB/s (TLC cell write) in several seconds even at 512GB variant. It doesn't expand SLC cache like pseudo/variable SLC models, and the size of SLC cache looks like under 10GB. In my opinion, this limitation comes from m.2 2242 size itself because it cannot hold as many chips and controller channels as bigger form factors. The SSD in my Teclast F7 laptop died, barely over a year in use I might add. So here I am, looking for replacement. Found a great deal in this Transcend 256GB M.2 SSD. Almost didn't pay attention to the size (length) of these type of drives, good thing I checked the old one and also read up on the subject, then found out I needed a 42mm. Installation was a snap, I unscrewed the bottom of my laptop, took the old one out, pop in the new one. Then, was able to begin my new install of Win 10 Pro. Whole process was easy peasy, the drive worked fast and smooth. So far so good, no issues yet. Plug, I gained much more storage than my old SSD. Highly recommended.

6 September 2019

This is by no means the most reliable or the fastest SATA SSD; 400 series have much better performance (especially random write and sequential write after cache) and higher TBW. However, this IS the most cost-efficient choice you can get--81 USD for a 500gb m.2 SATA 2242 SSD, with sequential write up to 300MB/S and 4k around 30000. I was planning on installing my system on this drive but after test I will install it on my 860 evo and use this as a high-speed storage drive instead. Consider this a little gift for yourself---one that does not cost you even a finger and yet provides robust performance boost if all you had was a 4-year old HDD.

Very nice 1TB drive upgrade!
1 June 2023

Easy to install in my Dell Venue 11 Pro 7139 tablet. Much more storage going from 256GB to 1TB. Adds life and faster access speed to this older tablet! The Transend SSD Scope software helps with monitering health, testing and cloning. I am very pleased with this little drive with a lot of space! Highly recommended if you have an older computer with an M.2 socket that supports SATA but not MVMe drives!

Works Great!
17 July 2023

Had no problem getting this installed on a Lenovo Thinkpad 20FY. Windows wouldn't recognize the drive initially, but no worries because I was planning to switch to Manjaro which has been working great since! I haven't run any extensive tests yet, but boot speed and general responsiveness when launching programs has been sleek so far!

Works perfectly

I just purchased an Intel NUC computer with two SSD interfaces, the second being for a 22x42 M.2 SSD half a stick of gum. I was leery on buying this, as the Intel compatibility list had this Transcend product line, but not the 1 TB capacity. it was physically compatible, though, so I took a chance and bought it. It works perfectly, and I am very pleased. The Intel interface is PCIe Gen3x1 lane, and I believe this Transcend device is 4 lanes, but it works fine. I ran performance tests on it (Ubuntu Linux 22.04 on Intel i5 CPU) and got an average read speed of 560 MB/s, average write speed of 486 MB/s, and an access time of 0.07 ms. That's with a 1 GB data set.
