Experienced hobbyists will recognise the downsides in the ESC, Motor and shell choices VERY quickly. With the limited shell choices and lack of parts in Aus, I'd strongly recommend just getting a regular TRX-4, or the Sport Kit, UNLESS you can buy it with the narrow or no guard kits. The biggest challenge is trying to get everything you need in one go to play properly, especially with Traxxas treating Australia as a wet anus from space - required parts are rarer than hens teeth!

Amazing

The trx4 is the most durable rc car ever. The portals and off-road capabilities are amazing. You could turn this thing into a scale offroad beast, or you could turn it into a competition monster. For whatever you want to do, the trx-4 will fit your need.

Good kit, quality construction. Runs very well.

Well written instruction. Nicely organized. Quality parts. So far everything works, except can't fit the proline Jeep body on the chassis until I remove the fenders. Will need to place shock towers, which I had to order and am waiting for now.

Good trx4 kit

This trx4 is an excellent crawler. With good clear easy to follow instructions. It was fun to put together, but it take a while like 2 days for me and this was not my first rodeo. The electronics are good par for traxxas. Cannot wait to play with my son's new Christmas Present.

Great Product

I have just recently got into the hobby. I figured best way to learn how they work is to build one from scratch. This is a great challenge. It's fairly simple if you have building skills.

Great kit, fun to build

Took my time assembling the kit. Lots of parts, decent instructions. Now to paint the body I chose. Took it it in our rock garden in our front yard. Climbed every rock we had with little issues.Issues I had: the receiver is so all you can barely make out the channel numbers. Ended up putting all mine in backwards order. Swapped them around and everything works great!! Front and rear bumpers hang too low, significantly reduce approach and departure angles.

Motor failure

Bought 2 Defenders for my kids for Christmas and both stopped working within a few hours. Customer service is awesome and ultimately determined the motors were bad. They sent replacement motors that worked for a few more hours of use before going out again. I have replaced the motors 3 times in both vehicles with only 2-3 hours use each time. Kids have now stopped using because they don’t want to break them. I’ve had other traxxas rc car that lasted for years without any problems. I want to emphasize that customer support was extremely helpful but they couldnt ever resolve to continuing issue with motors. Not sure what the deal is with these Defender motors but would not recommend based on my experience.

Not worth the hassle

For some reason the bearings supplied by Traxxas do not fit in some of the gears without dremeling the hole to make it fit. My son saved up all year so he could build his own trx4. He ended up breaking 2 spur gears trying to press in the bearings only to find out they come sized wrong in the kit. Internet searches show numerous others with the same problem with the kit. Wish we were warned before so we wouldnt have had to spend an extra $30 for new gears. When you order new gears from Traxxas they fit fine without modification. The instructions are clear and detailed and its packaged nicely and easy to follow. Havent finished building it due to delays in new gears on order.

Traxxas TRX-4 Kit build

I bought this kit because I wanted to experience the “ build it yourself “ process and I learned quite a lot about how this unit works. Everything fit perfect and the instructions were very clear. NOTE: if you want to use the Traxxas Defender body on this kit you will also need the Traxxas Wheelbase (short to long) extension kit #8057.

You need to get this kit

This is a great kit to assemble. Little man and I are having a good time together. He is finding out this kit is more complicated than the Stampede 4x4 but he is learning all about it. Traxxas needs to offer more kits to assemble.
