A3 helmetBought on sale from the TLD site it arrived damaged needless to say I was very disappointed. I have 2 TLD A3 helmets currently they seem to work. I had crash and the A3 with MIPS helmet prevented a serious head injury. Broken rib punctured lung, mild head injury. My experience is the helmet worked in my situation. To bad the TLD A3 helmet I ordered from the TLD site arrived with a broken off visor so it was sent back.

This helmet is amazing. It fits so well and is so comfortable. It has MIPS. It has the magnetic strap. It has an adjustable visor. All not too unusual. Then you get to the liner. The front of the helmet has like a gasket, a squeegee like silicone or rubber part that sits against your forehead. In all my years of sweating profusely I have never found anything that actually prevents sweat getting into my eyes. Until now. This doohickey actually works. I would say it prevents about 80% of my shower-like, profuse sweat from getting into my face. It’s a game-changer.

Fantastic! Disclaimer: I’m not a mountain biker. I ride horses and compete in endurance riding. *I am aware this helmet is not rated for equine events and I participate and wear this helmet of my own free will.* To say the horse industry is behind in terms of AFFORDABLE noggin protection is an understatement. I know the rating criteria is different (no one is testing these helmets to see how they protect a head from a hoof kick/strike/crush) but the drop testing is superior along with the included MIPS. I was looking for a helmet that provided decent occipital coverage (we tend to strike the back of our heads when coming off a horse), great ventilation, adjustable visor and “forget it’s there” comfort. My previous equine helmets were blah (plain colors, ie. black and brown), poorly ventilated, lacked MIPS, had a stationary visor and created hot spots that made wearing them uncomfortable. When I will be in the saddle covering anywhere from 50-100 miles, I want a helmet that will provide some protection (and peace of mind) while being comfortable as well as stylish. The one hand chin strap release is pretty great too! If you're ever interested in venturing into the equine line of helmets you’d have a significant number of endurance and competitive trail riders that would purchase your product. Plenty already do!

This is my second of these helmets... I'm replacing it as I've crashed a few times. No obvious damage is seen on the helmet and my head was fine (knee not so lucky) but I'm taking extra pre-cautions (as one should do). Having had a concussion before, I feel grateful that my head is okay and I believe this helmet was, in part, responsible.Otherwise, great fit (I have a small head and this is one of the few helmets that fits snugly but comfortably), good coverage, and 'reasonable' venting. It can run a bit warm but there's good sweat wicking.
I got this helmet because I really like the full face I have and heard this was very comfortable. I pick helmets that have a hole in the back middle to top to put my ponytail through because I get too hot with my hair down on my neck. This helmet has the dial in the back to tighten/loosen the fit. Unfortunately my hair keeps getting caught in the two plastic pieces attached to the dial & in the dial itself, ripping my hair out. There was no way to know this was going to happen until the helmet was used which then makes it unreturnable. Very expensive mistake.I actually felt more comfort in my cheap Mongoose helmet. I get headaches wearing this helmet like it is too tight but it is not, I think the sweat band plays a role in that. Now my husband has the same helmet ... MoreI got this helmet because I really like the full face I have and heard this was very comfortable. And I really like my full face from this brand. But I am regretting this helmet.
Coming from a Bell Super Air, this is definitely a step up in comfort, fit and general quality, especially for the price of the outgoing designs.Initially I was concerned that there was only 2 sizes, but the adjuster and extra pads sort that out.The straps offer really great adjustability and the Fidlock buckle is a great touch. It fits me far better than the Bell, mostly due to headshape I think, the Bell always felt a bit loose front to back. Not quite as cool as the Bell, but lighter and the sweat seal works really well. The whole presentation with bag, stickers, pads is really good.Overall for what I paid, excellent value! Would I pay ÂŁ220, not too sure.
I thought I would throw out a female perspective for fellow dirt divas! I have an old TLD A1 2015 helmet that isn't MIPs that I decided to replace. I loved my A1 so I knew I was going to replace it with something similar. My A1 is XS/S (54-56 cm), the A3 I chose is also XS/S (53-56 cm) and it honestly barley fits my head, quite snug. I always wear a Buff to either keep my ears warm or to keep the sweat out of my eyes so that does add a bit of circumference. I think the next size up probably would of been too big, not sure. It might be worthwhile to find a shop near you to try on different sizes and styles of helmets before you purchase. I usually had to click my BOA on the old helmet a few times to make it fit snug, certainly don't have to do this with this helmet. ... MoreI thought I would throw out a female perspective for fellow dirt divas! I usually had to click my BOA on the old helmet a few times to make it fit snug, certainly don't have to do this with this helmet. Also, I always have a ponytail and the new helmet does go down further on my neck but I can still wear my ponytail or just put my hair in a braid. I like the full coverage because you never know where impact is going to be. I like hucking off small cliffs/ jumps and the landings don't always go as planned! As for weight, the A3 is only 63 grams (2.22 oz) more so very insignificant for more protection. The only knocks I can give is the straps and strap adjusters by my ears, I prefer the lock clip on the old helmet and the straps seem like they are better quality than on the new helmet. I do really like the new under the chin magnetic side lock on the strap of the new helmet though.
The helmet is very lite and comfortable. Not sure about the ventilation as it is still winter but it does flow air very well. I was on the fence on which size to order and was tempted to get the XL. My road bike and trials helmets are all on L or XL. I wear a 59 and the M/L fit perfectly with room to spare. Bike Inn was great to deal with. I had some concerns as to when it would arrive. They kept me up to date with emails. It took longer than expected only due to USA customs. Was worth the wait!
Super comfortable, lightweight, good ventilation and great looks. All well and good, but what really matters is that it protects your head. I now have verifiable proof that it does. After going over the bars and landing face first, I was taken by ambulance to the ER. I received 4 CT scans on my head and neck all which showed no damage to my brain or spine. Highly unlikely that without this high quality helmet that the results were that good. The doctor was excited/surprised that there was no sign of any brain injury. My face was scraped and my mouth was torn up from my teeth, but nothing was broken.First thing I did was contact TLD and get a new A3 sent asap. Great customer service and discount for crash replacement. Money well spent!
This is my 3rd A3 since they came out. Not because I needed new ones I just wanted new ones, in about 30 yrs of mtn biking I have NEVER had a helmet as comfortable. On hot days here in Southern NM and SE AZ I'm able to carry an extra forehead pad and switch out mid ride if the sweat is too much. The sweat glide works great to redirect most of the sweat to the side. Some still drips from below the foam piece but significantly less than without.Helmet fit is subjective to head shape. The A3 fits my head perfect with the adjuster on the back of the helmet.I've tried POC, Fox and Oakley and just cant get the feel I wanted.
