Best survival shorts ever!

I now own 4 pairs of these shorts. I wear them daily into the Sonoran desert. I highly recommend them for rugged outdoor wear. The small bottom flapped pocket on each side is handy for a hand gun magazine or survival tools. The large flapped cargo pocket on each side is roomy and has two inner magazine pouches for rifle magazines such as M1 carbine or AR’s. There are two large rear pockets, but my favorite pocket on each side on your hip is the pocket ideal for Swiss Army knive or small flashlite. I have tried other brand name “tacticool” shorts but none compare to Tru-Spec. Do yourself a favor and buy these shorts. The down side is that you will scoff at all the other “Also run wannabies”.Rick RinehartTucson, Arizona

Decent shorts but it has a LONG 9 inseam!

Decent shorts but too long inseams!

The 36W shorts fit true to size. Hopefully it won't expect to shrink considering that it's 65/35 poly/cotton.Hopefully, the elastic waistband will last a few years as they tend to stretch out over time, at least in other brand's pants I've owned.I'm used to 5" or 7" shorts so these are a bit long. The fabric makes a slight swishing noise when moving but hopefully it will disappear as it's washed and worn over time. The khaki color is more of a DARK Khaki than what the photo shows instead of a typical light sand-colored khaki. It does get a bit wrinkly so some ironing may be needed to remedy that.

Great product, but....
8 July 2022

I love the layout, quality and features of these shorts! However, they are nowhere near lightweight! They soak up sweat and do not release or breathe. Sadly, I bought several and they are not appropriate for hot weather wear, here in SW Florida. If they made a summerweight pant like the Propper line offers or a different material weight, they would be perfect and I would buy a dozen, today! I used to buy Wrangler nylon cargo shorts, but they discontinued the line. They were perfect weight and certainly cheaper, but nowhere near the features of these. I would trade the weight and breathability over features any day. C'mon TRU-SPEC, make these lighter and moisture/sweat rejecting!

Great tactical shorts
17 July 2021

I really like these tactical shorts. Great functional pockets. The interior waistband definitely has a comfort feel to it. The expanding waistband is perfect. Only drawbacks are that the cargo pockets are placed a little too low therefore anything in those pockets will bang against your knee. And, the cargo pockets are just slightly too large so anything in these pockets will move around and rotate more than it should. I simply wish I could design my own tactical shorts and pants to perfection (sigh). That being said, I recommend these tactical shorts.

Pocket arrangement seems ideal for me
29 June 2022

These pants have:- Deep front pockets- Cargo pockets with a divider- An outside-accessible phone pocket in the cargo pocket--I like this better than trying to grab my phone from the inside of the cargo pocket. Also the phone pocket is deep enough for a 6" phone, unlike some other brands of cargo shorts.- The cargo pocket has a small additional pocket which is ideal for little things like hotel key cards.- Knife pocket is great for flashlights or (I guess) knives.

True to fit, comfortable, durable, washable, a good value

I am a big guy. 6' and around 310 lbs. I wear a 52" jean and belt size. Since I am heavy, when it is hot I much prefer shorts. But I am not a fan of either '70's / 80's short shorts or the 90's and 2000's super long shorts (which look a heck of a lot like "floods", short pants, or "knicker-bockers" to me. Galls and Tru-Spec seem to cater to the uniform, police, and fire/rescue crew set, so there are a lot of pockets and holders for anything you need to carry. Solid fabric and good stitching, so you don't have to worry about ripping out a pocket or poking a hole in a pocket. I feel they are stylish enough to be "work" shorts up to business casual shorts. They do have a hidden "gaberdine"(?) (i.e. stretch band) in the waist. That also appears durable, but the shorts are very true to size, and have good solid belt loops so if you order your size and have a belt, you don't need the elastic -- although it is nice to have.Drawbacks? On sale I think these are a very good value (as of today 9/23/2017 they are $23.99 here at Galls.) However the retail MSRP is between $50 and $56. That's a lot of money for a pair of shorts no matter how "nice" or durable they are. Also, while I like the 50/50 cotton/poly blend, the fabric is a bit stiff. I would have preferred a 60/40 or 65/35 cotton blend: a bit softer and more breathable, but sacrificing some easy to care for and durability.Still, bottom-line, these are an excellent pair of shorts, good for work or play, and a great value at Gall's sale price.

Uncomfortable for shorter legs.
3 August 2024

These are quality cargo shorts, but if you have shorter legs, the hems tend to grab the top of the knee with each stride. It makes them very uncomfortable and seems to exasperate effort when getting tired. Kinda like running on sand. I'm 5'7". Someone with longer legs would really like these.

Very useful product
11 December 2023

Great price and value. I’ve been wearing these shorts for many years. Solid construction and great utility in temperate climates where I live. I love the extra pocket behind the large cargo pockets on flank of the legs! Great improvement from originals. Rip-stop material very durable!
