A modern MF fast 50 with some character and capability

Unlike many modern, over-corrected and very sharp lenses that have 'soap-bubble' bokeh, this lens provides a much smoother look that I prefer.I've only had it out for a little bit of shooting in one day but I can already tell that this lens will be a keeper in my L-mount kit and I am looking forward to doing some close-up and portrait shots with it when I have a chance. Meanwhile I will try provide some example images I shot on a recent walk.My only 'improvement' I will do is to get a plastic pinch-style lens cap for it. The lovely push-on metal front cap looks great but for functionality, convenience and reduced risk of damaging the front element when reinstalling the cap, plastic will replace the metal one when I'm using it.RKS 20220430

Before moving to Leica from Fujifilm I used the TTArtisan 17, 35, & 50mm XF mount lenses on my Pro3 and really enjoyed them. With Leica I love the smaller sized lenses and went with the Voigtlander 21 f4, 28 f2, 35 1.4, but decided to go with the TTArtisan 50 1.4 for this FL and glad I did. The lenses is very well built and solid. It produces nice looking images and I'm very happy with this purchase.Mine was ready to go right out of the box and didn't need to be focused in.

Better than expected, but....
27 April 2021

After watching multiple reviews on this lens I finally decided to pull the trigger and get it. I had never seen anyone adapt it to a Panasonic S line camera, so I was slightly sceptical as to how it would work. It worked much better than expected, very low distortion and vignette, much sharper than the reviews cut it out to be. There is heavy ghosting when shooting directly into light, and chromatic aberration is apparent. Other than that, for the price, and the character this lens has, one of my best purchases yet.

Great lens but you have to be prepared for and patient with the manual focus.
30 September 2020

The image quality is superb but the manual focusing mechanism means that in poor light the maximum aperture f1.4 often does not focus well and the image is not sharp. However this is not a problem in good light and in shaded light the image quality is incomparable. See pictures both of which were taken at f1.4. The first focussed on the camera's speed ring, the second on the base of the branch.

Great vlue
11 April 2024

Build quality is superb, quoting Ken Rockwell, it's built like a swiss tank.Image quality - I didn't notice anything wrong with it, but according to ken it's slightly better than the actual summilux. But hey, for less than 1/10 of the price, can't really complain

Mind Blowing. I use it with the 7artisans 50mm 1.1
25 July 2021

This lens takes the 7 artisans to the next level. Less distortion more contrast more sharpness. Just an incredible lens on my monochrom. Could not be happier. If you want a lens that is on another level of dreamy try the 7 artisans. I use both lenses for different looks. Best value in existence.

Nice Surprise
27 December 2021

Every now and then a screaming deal just sneaks up on you. Even when reviewers favorably report on a product, one learns to temper one?s expectations. So, based on overwhelmingly positive reviews, I took a chance on this fast nifty fifty, thinking even if it is half as good as promised, that would be cool. Happy to report that the favorable on-line reviews understate, if anything, just how good this lens performs. On both the Leica SL2-S and the M7 it produces results better in all aspects than the non-apo Sumilux, especially in overall sharpness and microcontrast. A truly outstanding lens, and, yes, a screaming deal.

Perfect Lens for Leica M
25 August 2023

This lens inspires in all areas: handling and image quality.Compared to the Leica Summilux, there only minor differences. This lens is very crisp and produces amazingly soft bokeh. I would recommend this lens absolutely

good overall for a budget fifty
10 January 2024

The copy I received wasn't calibrated well and you have to follow the guide to calibrate for your camera. Overall the calibration is very easy, not a big deal for me.If you want to have this lens 6-bit coded, you can consider purchasing an m42 to Leica M adapter from Haoge, the flange ring from the adapter can be swapped onto this lens perfectly. you might need to recalibrate your lens after swapping the flange ring.
