I've used Unifi for a long time, but have rarely had good support. The latest bout came when I wanted to replace my 48 port switch (this one) with a new one (usw-pro-48). They have the same number of ports and so you would think that replacing it would be simple. Unfortunately, the prosumer grade Ubiquiti doesn't see it that way. In order to migrate from old switch to new, you have to effectively rebuild the switch configuration port-by-port. In the slow UI (no way to do it via CLI), this takes a considerable amount of time to migrate all 52 port configurations.I've reached out to support and effectively gotten the response of "No way to migrate and no help from us"

When our Cisco SG200-50 switch died, this is what I chose to replace it and WOW!! It is easy to configure and offers just about every bell and whistle you could want. Ours dovetails with a a UniFi Gateway, 2 UniFi APs and three of their 8 port switches. The POE capacity is amazing and it powers the 2 APs, the 3 switches and our 2 outdoor cameras with ease. UniFi does have a learning curve when it comes to their controller software, but You Tube videos abound on how to learn it. Clearly one of the best investments I've ever made.

I was previously using a Cisco POE switch with my Unifi devices, which worked well, but having the whole package and using this switch just takes the cake! Now I have the ability to turn on and off ports on the fly (even from my phone) and the lag interface is very easy to configure as well (multiple connections as one). Also, it makes it easy to reset connections right from the controller, which is much better than unplugging and plugging back in a connection. Too many other benefits to mention!

First unit I ordered to Canada was DOA, powered up and just flashed the Ubiquiti light, went through troubleshooting with Ubiquiti and they said that its dead.Contacted B&H and they sent me and RMA with prepaid shipping label to send it back to them free of charge. They sent back a brand new one, but Canada charged me duty at the boarder for the new one but again B&H covered those costs for me. Cant say enough good things about the customer service at B&H and the hassle free buying from Canada is amazing. Now on to the actual switch. I use Unifi Access points and a Unifi cloud key along with POE CCTV Cameras. This things handles anything you throw at it with ease. Super easy to set up and get going, configuring ports is a breeze with the Unifi software.Bought the Unifi Fiber SFP and SFP+ units which worked great, just plug in and treat it like a patch cable, set up IPs and done. Used the SFP+ for a backbone to the server which everything talks to and no matter how many clients, cameras etc are writing / reading from the server it never slows down the network.Overall very happy with the unit but without B&Hs no hassle returns it would have cost a lot to send back to Ubiquiti as they wanted me to pay for shipping back and forth from them...Which would have made this review a lot different tone.
If you're browsing for this switch, you're probably already familiar with the UniFi ecosystems and the products that Ubiquiti offers. It doesn't get much better than their centralized management. This switch is no different in that respect. The switch was adopted and integrated by my UniFi controller, no problem. I took a star off for the design of the enclosure. These fans are LOUD. Before you start with, this is an enterprise piece of equipment and it's supposed to go in a rack with servers that are far louder..., yes I know. Read on. One of the fans arrived DOA, so going back and forth with Ubiquiti product support, they suggested I remove the lid and check to see if the fan was unplugged. I removed the lid only to find the wires had been run oddly and they were blocking the fins of the fan. I rerouted the wires, but before buttoning it up, I powered on the switch to check the operation of the fan. And wouldn't you know, the fans are almost whisper quiet. Huhh?? Placing the switch lid back on, I realize the cutouts for fans on the lid aren't big enough. They produce a whistling effect because the fans are moving so much air. It adds more than 15dB to the fan noise. This to me is an engineering blunder, regardless of where the switch is to be located.
I was initially hesitant to purchase this due to the complaints of the fan volume, but compared to any server in a rack the incremental fan noise from this is no issue and by itself it is definitely not distracting unless you plan on putting it inside the recording room of a music studio. PoE works great, and for the Cloud Key the important thing is that PoE does not power cycle when the switch reboots. However, if you need to power cycle the PoE that is easy to do that without restarting the switch.
Bought this switch along with several other Unifi products to set up a network with several workstations and file server. So far everything is up and running perfectly to my needs. The PoE provide sufficient power for all my VOIP phones as well as multiple security cameras. Although a bit pricey compared to other widely used Cisco switches, its simple management alone justifies the slightly higher cost. I'll recommend this to any fellow entrepreneurs who are looking to set up their business network.
Have used the APs for a long time, and this is the first switch I've had the need/$ to try. Management is great through the controller. While I like the cloud keys... I still tend to think a PC installed controller is a tiny bit more stable. Features on the switch are great, SFP+ ports at this price range are also a bonus. Routing is in the layer 2+ range: not truly layer 3, and they don't advertise it that way anyway. Works great with VOIP phones. For the price, you won't get the same features in major name brands. Don't hesitate if you are unfamiliar with the company.
Most switches need a PHD in networking to program, Ubiquiti switches and access points are the exception. After watching my Cisco experts work on he Cisco switches for hours, and finally calling for help from Cisco itself, it is so refreshing to have a switch that configures in minutes, and it was so easy.If someone ever suggest Cisco again, I'll tell them nicely to use Ubiquiti, and if they insist on Cisco, I'll say good bye.
Bought this for a extensive home automation project involving PoE security and VoIP telephony. Normally would be like lighting cigars with a cruise missile - this was the right number of ports for the job, and the 500W power budget comes in handy when using IP security cameras, phones, wireless access points and other power hungry gear to be used with outlets being on the rare side. DEFINITELY recommend managing this with a Cloud Key or controller and definitely rack mount this beast - it will kill your desk space!
