This item works very well with my MacBook. The only issue is that daily plugging and unplugging of this hub into your MacBook will weaken the USB C prongs on the device. This will result in a weak connection or sometimes the connection does not work. It is also vulnerable to damage if leave it on the laptop while transporting the laptop. So I do disconnect thus adding to the plugging and unplugging cycle. It needs improvement on its endurance as I've had it for about six months and I'm having to jostle it to ensure it gets a good connection to my computer.

I purchased this specific adapter given my needs and the size of it is very nice with a minimal/sleek design. The only thing that concerns me is how it holds onto the Macbook. Of course, I bought this one because I didn't enjoy the cord-attached adapters, but there's a very slight flimsiness to it. However, as long as you don't plan on yanking the cords out from the adapter or being careless with it, you should be fine.

With the thunderbolt 3 only ports on the 2020 MacBooks this or a dock or adapter is a must to use a monitor. Simple and compact design which is easy to use and minimizes clutter. The number of port is perfect for our application.Performance wise it’s fine with our application. Others may find the refresh rate at 30hz an issue at 4k.Also, you the dock must be powered. I used other docks where it doesn’t have to be. So don’t forgot your power adapter when traveling.

Using all ports, and playing Eve Online, a pretty graphically intensive game. Power hooked up, HDMI going to my 4K TV, one usb port for my keyboard, one for mouse, and one for a laptop cooling base. I know these laptops are fanless, but playing a heavy game it gets warm. I can close the lid and the 4K TV is my primary screen.
I love this item. I didn't realize how awkward the new MacBook Pro was in terms of outlet shapes. The quantity is amazing but the shape is odd. Nonetheless, this is a perfect buy for placement on either the left or right side of the MacBook Pro (I recommend the left since the right has a spot for the headphones which may be hard to reach if this item is plugged on that side). The outlets for this device work perfectly. The only issue I see is not with this item or the MacBook, but with the fact that if you add a cover (plastic, metal, etc.) to your MacBook Pro, this item won't connect. You'd have to remove the bottom portion every time you plug this in. Again, it's not this item's fault but it is a factor I hope the Maker decides in taking note of for the next ... MoreI love this item. Beautiful hub with solid build quality as well. Works perfectly. Used to output via HDMI to my 1440p monitors for extended monitor use. It does tend to get a little toasty. Using a laser thermometer I noticed average surface temps of 31.5c to 33.5c.In the photo you can see part of my laptop cooler with a 200mm fan blowing air underneath. That brings the hub down to 24.5c while my M1 Mac chills down to around 21c.Hot swapping peripherals works great as well and if you have to relocate and plug the HDMI back in later it remembers the position. No drama. This is a great little adapter that I recommend any Mac user should have in their inventory. A+
I have a macbook pro for work, and apple's overpriced and lackluster dongle didnt cut it. This accessory was exactly what I needed, but it could use a revision. The problems stem from an overly clean design, which means the attachment doesnt really have any support, and the usb c slots dont actually click in. This means that sometimes my accesories dont work because the adapter has been nudged out of place slightly.A simple revision would mean extending the adapter just a touch, adding a hard click when its properly attached, and the addition of a small piece of plastic on top and bottom to prevent bending or snapping if the laptop gets dropped or pinched at a weird angle.
My autistic son had a Macbook pro -- I've since replaced it with an M1 mac mini, I use it to remote desktop in to a work machine. He completely wore out the USB-C connectors, they wouldn't stay in and the slightest bump and the power, keyboard, monitor would all disconnect. This not only expands the ports to connect my USB-A keyboard, mouse, external drive and a few other accessories, but I could put a rubber band around it and the laptop holding the USB-C connectors in tight. Not the greatest fix but it worked.
I originally had a USB-C harmonica. When I travelled recently, I found that I didn't have my harmonica with me! Yipe! Amazon to the rescue! I found this one and got it in 2 days! It was PERFECT! BETTER than what I had before! It fits perfectly, looks great, and works beautifully! A well-thought-out, well-designed and built unit! EXCELLENT!
Takes away the only two TB ports on Macbook Air M1 and gives back one. So that's for power. Got it for the 3 USB ports, and use the HDMI when traveling. But it is fatal to lose a TB; there are other similar port expanders that only use up one of the TB ports or with the same two-prong design that then give back a TB port (passthru for power, most likely) and then have another USB-C port. But I panicked and didn't yet know all the problems when I ordered this ugreen item. It's cute, but just self-defeating for my purposes, and now it is too late to return it. Lesson learned (I hope).
