This is my first audio interface. I was surprised by how quickly I got things rolling - you just hook it up to your computer and then connect an instrument/microphone to it. There are only a few knobs and buttons to mess with, making it perfect for a recording novice like me. Though I can plug my acoustic guitar into it directly, I've found I can get an even better sound by connecting my amplifier to it via my amp's balanced line out (for PA systems, I'm guessing). When I play back the recording, it sounds just like it does coming out of the amp. There is a very slight delay, so keep that in mind if you plan on recording multiple tracks; you'll have to manually sync them up.The only thing I didn't particularly enjoy was the setup. You'll have to register the device just to get the driver to install and use it. You're then given a whole bunch of lite-version programs from various software companies you can install for free (recording programs, virtual drummers, etc.), but I didn't bother with any of it. I use the interface in Audacity (a free program) without any issues at all.

The device itself is excellent. Super high quality, made in Taiwan, compact, just overall well-designed.Unfortunately, the software, which they push heavily for settings and firmware updates, is quite terrible. On Mac, you can't install it without giving it root access to your computer to install god-knows-what. On Windows, it uses some terrible anti-piracy nonsense called PACE that freezes up my computer.

I picked this up to replace a Presonus Audiobox 96 that couldn't handle high gain guitar. The Volt 2 handles it perfectly. Excellent price for a high quality entry level interface.

I used the Universal Audio volt 2 usb audio interface with Presonus studio one professional 5 windows 10 . This UA volt 2 interface is unbelievable. I downloaded the UA connect app and it setup everything perfectly. I open Presonus Studio one and try to play my midi keyboard as fast as I can and I got to say I didn't hear no latency. Guest what smile on my face. Don't laugh but I didn't sleep that night , just making music beats all night. O forget to tell you when I purchased it online .I check the reviews and compared the UA Volt 2 with a lot of Audio interface. What I read was not pleasing. Decisions upon decision in my mind .Should I take my money back or buy another Audio interface. But guest what I didn't. I purchased the Universal Audio volt 2 Audio interface ... I purchased this as a complete beginner to recording audio. The interface itself is simple and easy to use. It plays nicely with reaper and, in my limited expertise, seems to be of nice quality. It doesn't have a standard headphone jack which threw me off but a cheap 1/4" to 3.5mm adaptor did the trick. It came with a nice suite of plug-ins to start with as well (shout out to melodyne). As a beginner to recording this has been a great purchase and I'd recommend it!
The packaging is beautiful; the paper documentation is nonexistent. The online documentation is extremely thorough. If you are a beginner or even if you don't know the differences between balanced and unbalanced cables, the online material is awesome. Super simple and to the point while explaining everything you could ever want to know about the unit and some basic sound engineering principles.Build: It has a rugged construction and feel to it in part because its aluminum. The knobs are plastic but passable. The volume pots are smooth. The rear IO is perfect in terms of the ports available and can be powered by the USB C port.Sound: It sounds great. The front IO accepts Line level signals only through the TRS part of the jack and automatically switches to it.Complaints: IT DOES NOT SHIP with a USB C to USB C cable :(Only a USB A to USB C. With most computers now having USB C, this is frustrating. It does also come with a USB A to 5v barrel connector to power it as well. Conclusion: I love the build quality, sound it produces, and simplistic design. I don't like that it does not come with a modern USB C cable.
I had tried out a different digital audio system and it didn't go very well (IRIG HD 2) and returned it. I did a little more research and read some good writeups on this VOLT 1. I am new to this and the VOLT worked perfectly the first time... I am totally happy with it.
Ive had many budget interfaces from Steinberg to Focusrite to M-Audio, and this bad boy knocks them all out. Immaculately clean design with pristine sounding preamps. It's so much headroom on the input and output, it's literally underpriced for this type of quality. The volt interface series is the the apollo twin minus the console software. The Vintage 610 setting fills your vocals with warmth and character, I was shocked at my dry recordings. And then midi In/Out. Wowwwwwwww!!!
The item looks and feel great, it's user friendly and doesn't feel "cheap". However, even with my computer equipped with a powerful setup, I had too much popping noises. Even if my mic was plugged alone without any plugins and a 128 buffer size.Previous to that I had a focusrite scarlett and I also used an Arturia Audiofuse and it was perfectly fine. These noises made the whole recording process unbearable for me. If the compatibility was better it would be the best entry level interface, with the incredible plugins package.
The Volt 2 is providing steady, clear inputs and outputs for my Windows 10 system. But it took a little tweaking to get there. I kept experiencing glitches, crackling, etc. when recording in my DAW, and when playing back all kinds of material -- even YouTube videos.Adjusting the buffer to the maximum allowable number of samples (2048) eliminated about 90%-95% of the problems, but that's not good enough when random glitches can still mar a recording or cause a distraction during playback. What ultimately eliminated all remaining issues was setting my Windows power plan to High performance. This prevents Windows from throttling the CPU and causing the Volt to glitch. The frequency range of the Volt is supposed to be the same as the interface I was using before (20 ... I'm very pleased with the sound quality. The included USB-A to USB-C cable is pretty short (about 3.5'). I had to buy a longer one for my setup. You do have to be sure to plug the cable into a USB 3.0 port. And note that if you plug it into a port on a hub, it may not be able to draw enough power. Better to use a port on your computer if possible.
