Unmatched Battle of Legends Volume 1

Unmatched is a highly asymmetrical miniature fighting game for two or four players. Each hero is represented by a unique deck designed to evoke their style and legend. Tactical movement and no-luck combat resolution create a unique play experience that rewards expertise, but just when you've mastered one set, new heroes arrive to provide all new match-ups. Battle of Legends, Volume One features four heroes. King Arthur sacrifices cards to power up his attacks and gets some timely assistance from Merlin's magic. Alice is back from Wonderland with a giant vorpal blade and the Jabberwock by her side as she grows and shrinks to gain advantages on attack and defense. Medusa is happy to attack from range and let her harpies hound you, but just one devastating glance could end the battle quickly. Sinbad grows in power as he gains experience on each of his voyages.

A great set to start playing Unmatched

Perhaps the best Unmatched set to start with; the selection of Fighters covers some diverse characters with some interesting effects within the system. Unmatched is a highly rated card-driven asymmetric miniatures game that is attractive and very playable. The game box itself contains a tray with specific slots for all the components, which greatly assists set-up and take-down. You'll find yourself wanting other sets to add extra maps and Fighters to expand your play options.

This game is the one of the best games ever. The scope of the Unmatched project, and how each board game adds new characters and maps that can be played against each other, is astounding. We’ve been purchasing them all just because of the re-playability and insane amount of fun. Buy this yesterday and have some amazing memories. As a 2-player game, it’s incredible. As a 4-player game, it’s even more fun.

Fun Skirmish Game

Overall, I thoroughly enjoy how this game plays. The rules seem simple and straight-forward while the variability of each character deck gives me something to figure out. I've not played all the characters, but I have enjoyed all those I've played so far.The only negative I can think of is some of the characters seem to be better able to overcome the randomness of drawing cards. By no means does this keep me from playing it just causes some minor frustration when playing those characters. All-in-all, a fun fighting game pitting unexpected characters against one another.

Silly Game, But Far More Fun Than Expected
26 January 2022

As silly as it may seem to have mythical characters from different series battle, it actually works quite well. The game has interesting gameplay and a good amount of replayability. While I normally prefer heavier games, this title has earned a spot on my shelf as well.

So much Fun

They should call Unmatched you have to collect them all. BOL Vol. 1 was my first box and the one most people recommend as your first UM box. It's nice having 4 characters right out of the box and the characters are all fun and good for different play styles. Too bad the game is being vaulted by RG.

A really solid first set for Unmatched. While not my favourite BoL vol 1 has some great characters from history and lore alike, and each have something fun that makes them unique. With the four characters on offer you've got plenty of choice to find a play style and character you like. All in all, a superb game to play at two player, although wouldn't recommend any higher.

This was the first unmatched, but for me it is one of the best. This set has two very different feeling maps and four very individual characters to play as. Sinbad builds up slowly into a monster machine where they move fast and hit hard. Alice in Wonderland allows you to swap between big and small becoming more defensive or more offensive. King Arthur just runs about smashing people up and Medusa and her harpies are beating people up from afar. This is a great starter set

Amazing, card based skirmish at its beautiful best. Stunning to look at in terms of the muted tones and stylish artwork, gorgeous minis and card combos that are amazing. This is a game with a great level of depth but at the same time my 20 year old loves it. The design and asssyemtry of the characters makes playing each character a completely different experience. An immediate hit in my house and my game group!

I absolutely love Alice in Wonderland so with a new found love of the Unmatched games I simply had to buy this version and I was not disappointed! Excellent characters to play, Medussa seems unstoppable, whilst Sinbad is just amazing and King Arthur doesn't sound that strong to begin with but certainly does match up well with the others. This game is so much fun it'll keep you wanting to play more and more!

Unmatched Battle of Legends: Volume 1
14 July 2023

Started playing Unmatched recently and ended up jumping in head first. Battle of Legends: Volume One is a solid set to start with since the characters’ abilities tend to be a little less complex than some of the later sets, but the characters themselves are still a lot of fun to play. Medusa is probably one of the easiest heroes to learn the game as, with a special ability that lets her deal 1 direct damage at the start of her turn. King Arthur hits like a truck thanks to his ability to boost attacks, and Merlin has some fantastic schemes that can completely rearrange the battlefield. Alice is a little weird, which is perfect; she can hit harder than Arthur under the right conditions, so managing her size and keeping the fight on her terms becomes the top priority. ... MoreStarted playing Unmatched recently and ended up jumping in head first. Sinbad has been the character to beat from this set for my gaming group; even if you spend half the game throwing his best cards in the discard pile, the movement increase alone will exhaust other fighters who can’t keep up with him.
