Very thin and easy to work with, airbrushes well and has a good gloss finish for a water based product. Much easier to clean up the airbrush too, I must admit I was a die-hard spirit-based modeller, not yet convinced by acrylic paints but this acrylic varnish I can very definitely recommend.

For anyone who hasn't used this, it is basically a clear coat that has a very glossy finish when dry. Very useful for making certain things glossy (a small gem or crystal, for example) since most acrylic paint has a matte finish. After using it several times, I'm very happy with it. Not the cheapest, certainly, but Vallejo is a top brand.

But to be honest, most miniature painters won't need that much varnish, so the Vallejo product is all you'll ever need.

I use this with the matched matte varnish to finish miniatures. I use this over metallic paints on swords or armor, use the matte on everything else. The results are not as noticeable as I had heard from some, but it does maintain a shine to metal paints, making them stand out a little on the minis. Not really necessary, but it's a nice touch.
I've found the varnish to stay tacky for 4+ days if it's diluted. Not the best in my opinion. Otherwise, strait from the bottle is hardens pretty well after about 12 hours.
I’m using this product for details on doll repaints: eyes, lips, etc. It’s the perfect size for use on dolls and miniatures, and I’m very happy I found this instead of wasting more money on a large bottle I would never use up. I leave it to dry overnight after applying and by the next day it’s good to go. It has the perfect amount of gloss without being overly shiny. The only complaint I have is that one area I applied it to is still slightly sticky feeling; the varnish isn’t coming off, it just has a strange texture to it. This may be because I applied too much without allowing the first layer to dry, so don’t knock the product just based on that. For a doll that isn’t going to be getting touched, the tackiness is nothing to worry about. This is a really nice product to seal the paint and give a nice glossy look. I am very happy with how the dolls lips look after I use this finish on them!

This is great for applying to the model before adding decals. It flows nicely when brush painted, can be airbrushed after a little thinning with Vallejo Airbrush Thinner, and isn’t thick enough to cover the recessed panel lines or rivets thus making the decals settle over the details nicely. Recommended!
Vallejo's Gloss Varnish is great for adding extra detail to your finished models and miniatures. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this to seal and protect entire figures because using an aerosol varnish would be much more cost effective and provide more even coverage. I use the gloss varnish after I have finished painting and coating my miniatures in an aerosol mat varnish. This creates a great effect when used in areas like the mouth of a monster or on their claws. It also works if you are painting a figure that is wearing highly polished, or plastic armor like you might see on the stormtroopers from Star Wars: Imperial Assault. One bottle goes a long way when you're using it this way so there is a lot of bang for your buck here.
