The Vans Old Skools are a classic pair of sneakers - their iconic black and white silhouette is popular among generations, from kids to teenagers to even my grandpa! I picked up a pair from my local Nordstrom’s for $70 - you can occasionally find the more unusual colors on sale for cheaper, but more classic colors like black rarely get marked down. I’m a true women’s 7.5, and I found that I had to size down to get a 7M (but I also have narrow feet, so it’s was another contributing factor). The thick soles feel very sturdy, but the thin canvas of the fabric isn’t very supportive. Additionally, if you wear them for a while, they get quite uncomfortable, as opposed to my Nike Air Force Ones, which I can wear for ages. I think these are a stylish, classic pair of shoes ... MoreThe Vans Old Skools are a classic pair of sneakers - their iconic black and white silhouette is popular among generations, from kids to teenagers to even my grandpa! Vans are very addicting, you’ve been warned! I’m a woman, I wear a size 8. They are true to size. I love how there’s a huge variety of styles and colors to choose from. There’s something for the whole family! I have bunions and I still wear these, (yes, I know that’s bad) I can only wear these for several hours before my feet start to hurt. They are comfortable, stylish, and can go with almost any outfit. Vans last! I usually don’t have to replace my shoes until about 8 months. You get a free pair of black shoe laces with every purchase. If you want to make your shoes last longer, you can purchase there protectant spray. Highly recommend

Ordered a custom pair of old school vans. Waited weeks for delivery only to be disappointed. The shoes seem cheap, even for vans standards. Generic/ off brand quality. The shoes aren't wide despite being labeled as such. I'm guessing this shoe is a redesign of the old school shoe. It's not really suited for wide feet. Pointy toe box and the laces are too close together. I think they are trying to save on material by going slim. It seems like design is inspired by Converse.I should have just stuck with the slip-on in wide. It seems to be the only somewhat comfortable pair of vans I can wear anymore.Vans is more preoccupied with being trendy or diversity politics rather than making a half decent skate shoe.I don't have time to exchange these so I guess I'm ... MoreOrdered a custom pair of old school vans. This is truly a wide shoe. I've always loved the simplicity and timeless style of vans but they never really fit me like I would want them to. They've always been to narrow for my foot even after breaking them in after some time I really disliked how much my shoes leaned to the side because my foot was too wide for the shoe. No one truly understands that frustration unless you've dealt with shoes that look normal on other people but don't on your own feet. For years I've searched a wide fitting shoe from Vans and finally they're here. In other brand shoes I usually go for 2E - 4E this almost feels like a 4E shoe. There's so much space and width I find them very comfortable. I hope Vans continues to offer Wide in all their styles and color ways.
So I have never owned a pair of Vans before. At one point I didn't really like them for some odd reason but this past year I had actually really started to understand the hype. This past week I decided to pick up my first pair and I am genuinely surprised. I expected the insole to feel like cement looking at the photos but it actually has more support than my old shoes. The upper is really good quality and it feels like they will last me a long time. They do squeak a bit as I walk but I expect that to go away after time. I also heard that they run small but I actually had to go down a full size which was surprising. The only downside I notice is that they are a bit hard to put on and take off, but I'd assume that's for added support.
I have wide feet and that usually means wearing shoes that look like you get them with a prescription or that you borrow from your grandpa. These aren't those.Better yet, the Wide is actually wide (not so for every shoe brand). The shoes are not super-padded which means that they're trimmer than the aforementioned grandpa shoes but also means I wouldn't wear them if I had to be on my feet for any amount of time. The only con for me is that the insoles aren't (easily) removable. I need better arch support. I had to tear out the existing insoles and order a second pair (half size bigger) to get something that I could put insoles into. If think all wide shoes should have removable insoles. Wide feet usually means weird feet.
I'm a senior citizen and beginner weight lifter. I need balance deadlifting. I read about Vans on power lifting websites. I bought some for the gym. First I removed the glued down insoles, not too hard to do. Put in my prescription, custom orthotics. These Vans have flat bottoms and they stick to the floor. Perfectly level and stable. So glad Vans makes a wide shoe. I tested these out during deadlifts and I am very satisfied with them. For my purposes these shoes are outstanding. They have 9 eyelets and wide cotton laces so I can tighten them exactly the way I want. This is my first pair of Vans.POSITIVES:Excellent weight lifting shoes especially dead lifts and leg presses. They grip the floor. They look good.9 pair of eyelets.Reasonably priced.
This is my first pair of Vans and I absolutely love the style and look of the shoes. They are just so classic and go with everything. The shoes are really high quality and I really like the materials used. The insoles are a little thin and you can feel everything under your feet but that's not too much of a deal breaker for me. The padded ankle collar is a really nice touch and it gives nice cushion when walking for longer periods. The lace up enclosure gives a nice snug fit albeit it does take some work to put the shoes on. The toe box is also a little narrow but as I break them in it is slowly stretching out. Overall I do recommend the shoes and I'll definitely be getting another pair in the future.
I've had a pair of regular Old Skools for a little over a year now and have only worn them a couple of times. I'm not sure if it's due to poor quality control nowadays, but I've never truly felt comfortable with them as they've always felt a bit flimsy. When walking on cobbly roads, you can feel the unevenness of the terrain on the shoes' soles. It feels puzzlingly inconsistent in quality as I've worn thinner shoes such as Authentics and an Era that had way firmer soles. Perhaps it's time to consider the Skate versions instead...
