First known as the Vans #36, the Old Skool debuted in 1977 with a unique new addition: a random doodle drawn by founder Paul Van Doren, and originally referred to as the “jazz stripe.” Today, the famous Vans Sidestripe has become the unmistakable-and instantly recognizable-hallmark of the Vans brand. Featuring classic gum-colored sidewalls, the Gum Old Skool pays homage to our heritage while ensuring that this low top, lace-up shoe remains as iconic as ever. Made with durable suede and canvas uppers, it also includes re-enforced toe caps, supportive padded collars, and signature rubber waffle outsoles.

A classic vans shoe but not comfortable for long wear. Its not a tennis shoe for walking more than the average person. Theres not a whole lot of support but then again these are for skating. Other styles with more support are definitely better but more expensive. These hold up. Worn almost everyday for a year and still look great.

I always have to buy a new pair of Vans every year. I really dig the suede on this pair. I’ve had this particular pair for over a year and there are barely any creases, the suede never gets scuffed. My favorite thing about vans, are that they can really go with anything. I’m a size 8 in women and they are true to size. Especially after breaking them in after a month. I did make a bad choice and wear them when they were brand new to six flax’s magic mountain. We had to park further tha. I’ve ever had to. And the tram was broken. I ended up with blisters all over my feet from all the walking in brand new shoes. Not the best idea to wear a new pair when you have a lot of walking to do. Other than that I have zero complaints! Vans, off the wall.

I love these sneakers because they’re so comfortable despite being flat. They’re easy to wear around all day without hurting your feet or causing discomfort. They go with pretty much every outfit because of the simple design! They fit true to size. They’re a great sneaker to wear for many occasions - I think they can be dressed up or down. They’re also available for men, women, and children! They’re affordable and sold at many stores.

This shoe has been my go to for the past 6 years and still looks like it's brand new. I've been wearing these shoes everywhere and everyday. Not one hole or tear can be seen. The soles are very soft and comfortable, making them wearable for the whole day without having feet pain. The design is also very good and can match any outfit you want. I'd really recommend buying these if you want good quality shoes, they aren't even expensive right now they go for about $75. I wear these shoes everyday for school, errands, work, and everything else.
Love, love, love this beautiful blue color! It's brighter than a navy, but not as bright as a royal blue. I would say say it reminds me of a stormy sea, or a cloudless night in winter. I bought these for my daughter, but I wish that I had bought them for myself, because they'll go with anything, but they are more unique than a basic black or grey. ** Review Sweepstakes
I have a high arch and a wide foot (at ball of toe) for context:- Shoe fits fine for wide feet- the inserts are sort of odd, with the support being on the outside of the shoe, rather than arch- There is a spot, on the back left shoe, where the stitching meets, in that spot it pushes in on your ankle. I went for a 1mile walk and got a small spot on my ankle that rubbed raw (was bleeding).- I won't return these, I will modify or break in to fix that last issue.- Skating in these shoes for under a half hour has caused the design on the tongue of the right shoe to pull the thread out. That's odd to me since I can hardly do an ollie.
So, first I ordered a pair in what I thought was womens size 8, they sent me mens size 8 which made them a womens size 10. So I returned because I realized they were mens sizing, and ordered a mens size 6, which should have been a womens size 8. WRONG again! This time they sent me a womens size 6!I thought maybe I could make these work because at that point I was just so frustrated by all the time wasted, but that was a big MISTAKE! I now have a pair of overpriced sneakers that I can't wear because they hurt my feet after 30 minutes. I'll never order sneakers from this website again. Thanks for wasting my money ASOS!
Man, if you are tempted by the Van Doren Special Old Skools, go for it. It is a wonderfully weird idea for a themed sneaker (BBQ/Burger themed????) that works cause Vans rarely misses. It looks better in person and had that great old skool feel (with a short break in period). I'm not even super worried about getting them dirty with wear cause it'll definitely enhance the way the shoe looks. I typically wear old skools to work with a pair of generic slacks/chinos and a polo, and this definitely works for that and pretty much any outfit.Im glad sneakerheads/hypebeasts dont go crazy for Vans like they do Nikes, cause this is a very unique, fun pair of shoes that gets lots of stares and compliments.
I've owned 7 pairs of these. They're the perfect auto repair shoe. The later versions are more true to size. The first few pairs I got before the side stripe versions were a little smaller in length and now fit more true to size. They feel like a running shoe, without looking like one and have the durability of a work boot, without being heavy and creating foot fatigue. Good for wide feet and just enough pinky toe room for my 2E foot. The elastic bands make it so they don't need to be tied tight for a locked in fit. I've had, or at least tried on, basically every shoe that vans has made over the last 20 years and these are the best I've found. If vans put more effort into advertising them, they would be the most popular vans shoe, in my opinion. On a side note, are ... MoreI've owned 7 pairs of these. They're the perfect auto repair shoe. I noticed availability on online stores has decreased like they're being phased out. The black and white should always be available.
Today I wore them for my first time and immediately I noticed that they were two different shades of white and one shoe looked “dirty”. I unfortunately didn’t notice while I was indoors, but in the sunlight it was so apparent. My family was asking me if I mix matched two different shoes. The rubber was grayish and the canvas was more of yellow tone on the right shoe. I wish I would have taken a photo, but it’s currently soaking in bleach. I hope this works. Definitely not buying shoes from Nordstrom online ever again.
