Great upgrade... worth the wait
Well worth the additional purchase for the VS3 grinder
I purchased a set of the Hypernova Gen 2 burrs and they are one of the best upgrades you can do for the VS3. allows for more flavor, clarity and texture in your final cup. Easy to install and once seasoned (Took 2 KG of medium roast coffee on 3.2) it obliterates the stock burrs (You'd hope so)
When I first received the item, it wasn’t working as expected even after following the instructions to a tee.Emailed Alternative Brewing and had a very prompt response. Some tips and making sure I followed the instructions. This didn’t resolve the issue, they contacted Varia on my behalf who had some suggestions that weren’t in the instruction booklet that worked.Thank you Jake for your help, not the kind of service you expect when you buy something online but it was much appreciated.Would highly recommend Alternative Brewing.
I have had the vs3 gen 2 for a few months now and I don’t regret it.On the not so important but still, it looks good, it’s not very noisy at all. I don’t feel like I am gonna wake up everyone when I use it.On a more useful note, it did make a huge difference in my coffee taste and quality. As long as you buy good beans of course. It is a bit messy if you go dark roast, no problem on medium or light roast. Dark roast is maybe more oily so there is a bit more retention I guess.I have upgraded the burrs to the hypernova burrs because why not, and after a bit of a problem with the grind being way to fine at 7 click still, Varia customer service told me to remove the thin washer which I did and it fixed the problem. My coffee is delicious.So, good quality build, good variety of coffee that you can make, not very noisy, easy to clean, a little bit of a mess sometimes but minimum, nothing that you can’t wipe, good customer service and possibility to upgrade your burrs. For me great value overall.Also, alternative brewing answered my questions when needed and delivery is always fast.

Was interested to see how the upgraded burrs worked and was convinced thanks to the helpful video on the product page.True to the description, I'm definitely finding more consistency in the grind and a more balanced flavour profile.They do grind slightly slower than the stock burrs, but I don't mind because I feel like I'm getting greater precision and consistency.Fast delivery and great service as always!
I wasn’t fully sold on the upgrade of the burrs initially and was going to chalk it up to marketing and hype but after purchasing and watching a bunch of videos, especially the Alternative Brewing YouTube videos I splashed out and I am actually really glad I did! They were easy to set up and have been having incredible results. Big fan of these for sure!
