It is raining in December with another ladder project required. The automatic rain sensor is not closing these for me either.SO, if you have the option to install a wire, GO WITH HARD WIRED NOT WIRELESS over the objections of any salesman. It is too late for us. I was told by our AV guy that these use a ZigBee wireless communications protocol. So many devices in houses now use this protocol that signal traffic can get confused. I have no solution now except a ladder and not liking these. I wish I had ignored that salesman. The physical aspects of the skylights are excellent otherwise.

Great, but....

I love the solar powered skylights and shades. BUT, pairing the remotes - we have 3 in one room, and using the app - is incredibly complicated. I used a VELUX certified installed, but he left me with 6 remotes for 3 skylights in the same room. He has promised to come back, but did not set a date yet. He suggested strongly that I download and activate the VELUX active with Netatmo App. But the app won't accept a password. And when I called support, they sent directions on how to pair the skylights so I would have 2 instead of 6 controls for the living room. Very complicated, and I need a very tall ladder, and that means my living room will still need to be a mess. Also, the support staff said I could contact tech support ONLY after I pair the skylights. They use audible detectors that would not get triggered when the skylights were all the way open. My roofer and skylight rep both came out to move one of the sensors from the bottom to the side and the next rain storm, it did close. But then the previously closing one was not closing so I guess I will need that one moved too. As far as the skylights and shades, they operate slowly but is apparently by design to save the batteries. I'm happy with the skylights and shades except the remotes. Each skylight and each shade come with a remote. And they are rather large so when grouped together, it's like a bank of remotes that I don't want on my wall. These remotes do allow you to program them so one remote can operator more than one skylight OR shade (you have to keep the same type devices on one remote so you still need to have at least 2 remotes). But that means you can no longer operate skylights or shades independently from the group. For the price you pay for the skylights, you should be able to get the upgraded remote for free when you buy more than one skylight.

Nice skylight with crappy remote control
5 September 2023

We got 2 of these and they are NOT cheap, something like $1800 each with the shades. Happy enough with the skylights--my issue is the remotes are terrible. You can pair one remote to control 2 skylights, but even from just a few feet away often one will respond and one won't. You also need a separate remote to open the shades and the actual skylight. Remote and cloud-based solutions are available but very expensive. For this price point the remotes should be much more reliable.

Poor quality product and worse customer service
2 May 2019

I bought this skylight 3 years ago. It has failed 3 times. The customer service it horrible to deal with and extremely unresponsive. The first summer the skylight was repaired just before winter after reporting the issue in spring. The second summer the skylight required a new remote and it worked for most of the summer once I received that. Now the third spring and it doesn't work again. I have tried to contact Velux using the phone number they give you and you end up getting an email from a person on the phone requesting information to be forwarded to a local representative. That local representative never contacts you and doesn't care to come fix your product. This is the same issue that happened with my first repair that took several months to get fixed. Last time it took several calls to Velux to explain and reexplain my issue and two different vendors to finally find one to come. Just purchase another brand, seriously the Chinese junk I have bought from Amazon has better quality and their customer service is head and shoulders above this.

Removable screens on Velux Solar Skylight?
3 January 2024

Our former manual Velux skylight screens could be removed from the interior, as needed for cleaning. Recently had several replaced with Velux Solar Skylights and somehow, the way they are installed is not enough allowance remove the screens from below. Roofer says they can be removed from the top, ie from the roof! SO one has to climb a ladder to the roof in order to remove/clean Vellux Solar skylight screens? Please confirm ASAP if this is correct.

The best you can get
29 June 2024

I purchased and installed 6 of them in our two houses. I like the electric fresh. It helps cool and creates a nice breeze. In the second set of skylights I installed, I included the white solar powered shades. They’re thick enough to block sunlight. These are an excellent option for a bedroom.

Water leaking
10 March 2021

I've always been apprehensive about having skylights installed. But Velux stated that the best guarantee is the one you never have to use, therefore, they built quality into every product. This was a reassuring statement. So on April 11, 2020, after a hail storm, my roof was replaced as well as the skylight. There were no problems until 12" of ice and snow started to melt. Then a wet spot started to appear on the plasterboard ceiling of the garage beneath the window. I called the roofer to inspect the problem and he claimed that the size of a metal piece around the window wasn't an adequate size to keep the Velux window from leaking water. I've attached a photo of the ceiling. I'm not at all happy with this product.

Window frame and Flashing kit both dented but....Since it does not affect the window operation we installed the skylight without contacting Solar Skylights. It works perfectly. This is our 4th purchase with Solar Skylights over 2 years and would recommend them. I'm certain they would have worked with us if we had contacted them about the damage. For us, the blackout shade is a must!

I have owned this item for about four years, it failed to close only months after purchase. I called Velux for help and the referred me to the local authorized dealer. So as of this date the unit will not open, or worse yet not manually close when it starts raining. Intermittently works but just resorted to eventually turning the power off and leaving it closed. I initially relied on the techs to fix the problem, all they did was reset it. So they came out here twice at $150.00 each time, for what? they could never explain what the problem was. At this point I am Very disappointed with this purchase and only a free replacement would suffice. That is not going to happen right Velux?
