Verbatim's professional optical media feature tighter specifications than the standards given by the relevant standardisation bodies. Tighter specifications ensure better compatibility with writers and recorders. This results in higher recording quality thus ensuring longer archival lifetime and better readability. You can recognise Verbatim's professional optical media by the DataLifePlus branding. The advent of Blu-ray technology has led to the introduction of high capacity storage discs to meet the demand cause by the rapid growth of high definition television (HDTV). Blu-ray discs get their name from blue laser technology. The shorter wavelength of the laser is the reason it is blue in colour. The blue laser has a wavelength of 405nm compared with the wavelength of 650nm for DVD which utilises red laser technology. The benefit of having a blue laser with a shorter wavelength means it is possible to write smaller data pits and therefore vastly increase the amount of data on the disc. Blu-ray discs offer 3 to 5 times the storage capacity of a standard recordable DVD disc enabling the recording rewriting and playback of high definition video (HD). For use only in drives or recorders that support Blu-ray Discs without cartridge.

I'm using these for archiving irreplaceable home video from a HD camcorder. I did a test burn of a disk, then put it outside with the dye-side up in my backyard. It's been outside, exposed to direct central Florida sunlight for 5 days now, with no problem reading the disk. Make sure you have a compatible burner/firmware for the LTH media. I updated my WH08LS20 LG burner to firmware EL02-06 at the direction of Verbatim. It was not listed as a supported firmware on LG's site, but has worked flawlessly with the LTH media; no coasters so far.

I always purchase Verbatim brand as they have never let me down. I also always purchase the full face discs ready for printing at home. The finished products are excellent. I would always recommend Verbatim discs.

Very good quality when burned at 4 speed with Plextor PX-LB950SA 1.02, Very low error rate. Reads back at top speed.

If you have to archive lots of data, Blu-ray is a fine route right now. BD-R discs are not much more expensive per gigabyte than DVD+/-R discs. Since it has 5x the capacity, you need to change discs less often. I find that changing discs is much more annoying than waiting however long for a full read or write to finish. On the other hand, hard disks right now have about the same cost per gigabyte as BD-R discs... and they're a helluvalot more convenient. If you value your time and sanity, buy hard disks. It's your choice: A single 2 TB HDD unit for $100, or 80 BD-R discs totalling 2 TB for $100.
I have got 3 of those 20 disc pacs so far, only 2 costers so far. Pretty good, huh? I record movies that air on TV using a TV tuner and burn them to this disc as AVC or mpeg Blu-ray movies using Roxio Creator 2010 Pro with Blu-ray plug-in and the LG WH08LS20K burner with the latest firmware LG posted (and took down) on my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit computer. The other day, I got a Verbatim 100 DVD-R disc pack (Model #: 95102) for $25 (450GB for $25, less than 2GB / dollar). This package is 500GB for $25 (2GB/dollar). I may start using this blu-ray discs for storing pictures and backup too.
Great for: "Uploading" large amounts of data through the mail to people with slow/capped internet connections (cheap media, a single disk can be mailed in two standard envelopes stuck together). Snapshot backups which are only intended to be kept for limited time Saving non-critical files which are not intended to be archived forever, but which you want off your valuable SSD space.
This updated review in more to help users based on my experience with this media an my specific use of it. So just to clarify: Since my original review has come into question... just because something works for you does not mean it will work for others. With my particular use of this media and based on my original review, these disks gave me issues with both VSO burning engine (default for DVD FAB) and Image Burn (also tried with DVD Fab) using both a LG WH10LS30K and a LG WH08LS20 burner. Since my original review DVD Fab 7 has been released and am now getting about a 50% success rate with the LTH media. But it is still an issue for me. This may have more to do with DVD Fab than the LTH media itself but HTL disks work fine with DVD Fab. Just an FYI... data backup ... MoreThis updated review in more to help users based on my experience with this media an my specific use of it. i have been getting these locally and paying $40 for 20 (but at least i was able to return 1 spindle of the bad discs I still had after i started keeping them due to so many coasters + 5 unused ones... wish i hadn't tossed them all before that) I haven't been ordering online lately since my mail service is shady just like everything else in the hood, but now i am going to have to just have stuff sent to a friend's. It's sad to say, but i won't be buying any more of these when i get other brands like for half the price and they will be faster and may burn better than this (couldn't be any worse... 1 good disc in 35 is worst I have ever done). i even question the reliability of the name now. this is far worse than even my worst experience with el cheapo junk DVD+R DL, ... Morei have been getting these locally and paying $40 for 20 (but at least i was able to return 1 spindle of the bad discs I still had after i started keeping them due to so many coasters + 5 unused ones... wish i hadn't tossed them all before that) I haven't been ordering online lately since my mail service is shady just like everything else in the hood, but now i am going to have to just have stuff sent to a friend's. I have used 1000s of your media loyally, but this is a terrible sign to me .
25 blank writable blu ray discs.1) There was 25 of them. I wasn'the especially surprised by this.2) They were all blank. I know because I checked.Nobody had sneaked a Star Wars one in just to catch me out.3) They are writable. This is handy as that's how I like my 25 blank writable blu ray discs to be
I thought people were crazy talking about blu ray rot. Now i beleive them. I dont have all those spots on mine. they look very clean and nice but i still have problems. I will never again buy these. Its far cheaper to archive your stuff to a 2 terabyte hardrive. what i plan to do is buy 2 2 terabyte harddrives and copy all the data to one of those. once its full ill copy that 2 terabyte hardrive to another 2 terabyte hardrive and have 2 copies. Less time Fooling with burning(especially with these kinds of faulty media). Thats how ill keep archiving. Faster transfer speeds and not a worry bout junk discs. if one goes bad buy another and copy it again.
