I bought my son a Hex Bug Battlebots Tombstone. He enjoys to construct the robot (it brought 429 pieces to ensemble). This was a Christmas gift for my little step brother. He had a blast putting it together and loves catapulting stuff high in the air. Great toy that teaches as well!

My 11 year old son had a great time building this. We also got the crossbow, which had an error in the directions. Both were very fun to build and worked really well.

I got this for my 12 year old son as he had asked for it multiple times. He is very good and putting things like this together. He could not get this to function properly. He got so frustrated with it. So overall pretty disappointed.
This is our first Vex Robotics kit. It's really well made but more advanced than Lego. It's best for either an older kid or a younger one with some help. There are a bunch of different sizes and shapes of parts that need to go in the right way. The manual has pictures but you have to pay attention, or you'll pick a part that is close but not quite right. It's easy to pull apart and fix your mistakes.
The design of this Hexbug Catapult kept a 13 year engaged for hours and actually worked with a bit of punch sailing the ball quite a distance. Anytime the construction process of an object is so that a teen is engrossed in building it, it is a good thing.
We are big Lego fans, but as my kid is growing, I wanted to expand his building experiences. This was great! We bought it last Christmas and put it together over several patient hours. For us the building experience is paramount and this did not disappoint! I love it's durability(contrast to Legos, where one drop creates a meltdown!); It's been a year and most of the pieces are all still intact after many uses....we've had fun showing it off to friends ("look, I built this all by myself!") and have used this with our dogs to chase the balls. Love the catapult!
This was purchased for a 9 year old boy. Instructions were clear with great pictures. I helped with assembly but he did most of it himself. Functions well shooting a ping pong ball about 6 foot across the room. Duriability is the only reason for a one star deduction this is a toy that you cannot play with rough and is best used under adult supervision.
Purchased for my 10&12 year old grandsons and they really enjoyed building the kit. Being able to use it was fun. They reported that it worked quite well.
Wonderful product for kids to make. Building it and using it for fun is perfect combination to enjoy your time.
