It broke my heart, too, and I'm still holding on to the broken thing like an old sap.In need of a replacement, I bought the Wood Ranger 55, but found that beast much too big to carry comfortably in my pocket. I'm not foolish enough to return such a great tool, so I tucked it into an emergency bag. After spending some time distilling my wants and needs, I decided on the Camper. It has the same tools as my old knife--small and large blades, can opener, screwdriver--with the addition of a wood saw, corkscrew, a sewing awl, tweezers, and toothpick.I use the knife mostly to open packages or boxes or to occasionally, you know, cut stuff. The screwdrivers have come in handy quite often over the years. New to me is that the Camper's large flathead tool has a positive stop at 90 degrees. This means you can more easily use it to get into hard-to-reach spots that you couldn't manage if it were fully extended. Either with the Camper or my old knife (which had identical screwdrivers/can openers), I cannot remember ever wishing for or requiring an actual Phillips head, which is the reason I chose this model over Victorinox's Hiker. However, if you anticipate a frequent need for a Phillips head, it would be worth buying the Hiker.I rarely use the can opener other than for small or Phillips screws, though it's one of those things I've been happy to have in my pocket if I do happen to forget to bring one if I happen to be car camping with canned goods. Come to think of it, I have used the blade of the can opener to lightly scrape paint off of a surface once. I used it both so that I didn't dull either of my blades, and also because the angle was better for scraping than the blades on the knives.Of course, the corkscrew is good for corks. Although depending on your strength and grip, it might be difficult to remove a stubborn cork from a bottle. However, I have also used Zack Fowler's (of History Channel's show, Alone) suggestion of using the corkscrew for untying knots. Further, you can buy tiny screwdrivers from Victorinox with tiny handles that will screw into the corkscrew, both ways. So, you can screw the tiny screwdriver inside the corkscrew with the tip pointed out so that you can use the knife as a handle, and you can store the tiny screwdriver away inside the corkscrew while the corkscrew is folded down. The awl is, obviously, for making holes. I believe I may have used it once since I've had the Camper, but expect that it would work well in leather and wood.I have outfitted my Camper with a tiny, aftermarket, ferrocerium rod that fits snugly into the space usually reserved for the ubiquitous, nearly useless, toothpick. I am about to order a pen from Victorinox (REI doesn't offer them), in hopes that it will fit where the tweezers go.Uses for the saw are pretty obvious, and it is, in fact, a very sharp saw. Another great thing about it is that the spine of the saw has a sharp 90-degree angle, which is useful (and rather necessary, if you don't want to dull a knife blade) for striking the above mentioned ferro rod.TL;DR:This knife is a versatile and customizable tool for a great price that is a great size to carry with you without overwhelming your pocket. I wish the blade would lock properly, and that there was an option for a Camper with metal scales. Also, it would be nice to have only one, large, blade, and for the smaller blade to be replaced with some other tool. One more thing: If you haven't yet discovered Felix Immler, you haven't fully appreciated your SWAK. Check out his videos on the Tube of You, where he demonstrates the many uses for your knife.

We just bought another of these for my son to use as he learns to safely use a knife. I've had one for more than 20 years and it has been absolutely brilliant. The blades are fantastically sharp and hold an edge with little maintenance. At 20 years old I eventually had to replace the spring in the scissors (very easy, parts from Victorinox) and oil the hinge points, but that's it. The huntsman model has the perfect selection of tools for the outdoors (blade, saw, awl and scissors are all used extensively). You'll not be disappointed to spend the few extra dollars for this model and with a lifetime guarantee, it's hard to go wrong.

Best Non-Industrial Utility Knife Available

Similar to the Climbers Knife the Huntsman has an additional twig/branch saw making is slightly larger and heavier. Very handy when traveling but don't forget to pack it in your checked luggage. Most people don't realize the tool on the upper right is actually an old style can opener. This is slow to use but very, very handy if you don't have one. The scissors are very sharp and also very handy as is the cork screw if you like wine and the bottle opener is very handy for beer and other bottled beverages. There is a wire bender, leather punch, tooth pick and excellent tweezers that are good for thorns and glass fragments. Disappointed. Relook your packing and handling
26 December 2022

As a repeat return customer, not all that happy on this purchase. Both of the Victorinox Sportsman, purchased as gifts, were badly rubbed/scuffed along the scales. Seems to be from poor shipping and stock handling. I paid more than other retailers (Amazon, DLT Trading, victorinox) for the typical quality service from Swiss Knife Shop. You let me down this time. In contrast, similar knives I just purchased as gifts from DLT Trading and from Amazon arrived inpristine condition.

A Christmas present for my granddaughter. We all carry one, the kids call them Handy dandies 🤠. She was so excited to get one. My ice started it years ago when she was in Switzerland and brought one home for me. I got one for my daughter to stop her from borrowing mine then one to me grandson and last summer I treated my wife to her own. So we love em. I have dressed mine with and Arkansas stone and used it at work. Guy would borrow it an could never understand how it was so sharp.

Lightweight Leatherman alternative
8 July 2022

The description says 3.2oz, however, its lighter. About 2.6 oz according to my scale and Victorinox website.I appreciate the Camper as a lightweight alternative to a Leatherman when pliers are not a concern. (Like when hiking/camping and you have a leatherman in the car). The camper still provides screwdrivers (can opener is phillips), knives, saw, awl, and of course the bonus tweezers. The only thing you really lose is pliers and a file, but you save so much weight. Leatherman around 6 to 9 oz, depending on model, and the Vic Camper 2.6 oz. I agree with another reviewer, Felix Immler on Youtube will make you appreciate how capable your Vic is. My New Favourite Swiss Army Knife!
23 February 2022

What more can I say? It is a Swiss Army Knife. I got it on sale for a fantastic price. But the knife would be worth it to buy at full price. The price at CT is the same as anywhere else, so I got it at CT.I was surprised at the functionality and the feeling in my hand. This is a 4 layer knife, and I usually prefer a 3 layer Swiss Army Knife (SAK) because the 3 layer units are obviously thinner and weigh less, as such the 3 layer guys are easier to carry in my pocket. However, this 4 layer knife carries exactly the same to me. The extra weight and size are not noticeable. So I love the way this "fireman" (improperly named - the real name is "Fieldmaster") feels in my pocket and hands.I also really like the set of tools on this knife. So I love the way this "fireman" (improperly named - the real name is "Fieldmaster") feels in my pocket and hands.I also really like the set of tools on this knife. You would not think that a saw is all that useful, but, after you have one of these you will love that tool. The saw is extremely sharp and will cut through a branch or a fan belt in seconds. Really handy. The other thing I like about this knife is that it has a Phillips screwdriver and not a corkscrew. The only thing the corkscrew tool is good for, in my opinion, is to hold the extra-fine mini flat blade screwdriver (which is an add-on item). Having the mini screwdriver is great, but I think the full-sized Phillips driver is a better choice. The other thing about this knife is the scissors. I will not buy a SAK without scissors because that tool is so useful, I use them all the time and they work great. The toothpick and tweezers are another set of tools I would never be without. I use these very often as well. I work with wood and slivers are a notorious addition to my fingers, so I use the tweezers to get them out. It works great. The only negative about this knife, and it is very picky, is the parcel hook. I have never used this tool in any of my SAK's and I wonder why it is there. But, it comes with the package, so, that is the way it is. It is a minor flaw in an otherwise perfect knife. This is the second most popular SAK, after the “classic” which is really not a knife in my view. This is my now favourite pocket carry knife. I used to love the super tinker, but this is exactly the same knife knife with a saw. Love it.It really is a wonderful addition to your pocket and I highly recommend it.

Perfect for Everyday Woman and Travel
1 August 2022

This is my favourite knife. It rides in my purse on a lanyard so I can fish it out easily. When I travel,it goes to my suitcase. Most often,I’m using the nail file, sometimes the corkscrew. The knife cuts tags off after shopping, or opens the hard plastic packaging when I’m traveling. So happy to always buy the mini screwdriver that twists inside the corkscrew. It’s been handy not just for eyeglass screws, but for working with small parts on some kids’ projects. I buy an extra because I’ve lost a few to airline security and luggage thieves.

This is the Fieldmaster and not Fireman. Priced properly for the Fieldmaster!

This is actually the Fieldmaster and not the Fireman. The Fireman is larger and does not have scissors or the hook. But this Fieldmaster is a great pocket knife multi tool. A perfect go to as your first and maybe final EDC tool!! It is relatively small for a pocket tool and has almost everything you need for camping, hiking, hunting, house tinkering, work at a desk, or work in tech/trades. If you forgot your main tool/s, this almost has all you need in a jam. I feel this is my EDC tool and the one I can just make sure I always have in an urban out and about setting, at home, desk job, tech job, and even some trades work, but for sure in any outdoor setting. Plier based tools may be better for some but for a similar/close to the same quality you pay a lot more and carry a bulkier/heavier tool. The scissors can't be beat on this one and all the other tools work really well, you cannot say the same for all the other plier based top brands tools, they are close, but are very plier centric and do that great. Buy both eventually if wanted but in my opinion start with this one to see if you need the more expensive choices and this will not be a waste of your money. I can't say enough.
