Beautiful knife but nail file scrapes the main blade

I am a fan and collector of Victorinox Swiss Army Knives. Part of the pleasure of owning the Swiss Army Knife for me is how well made they are which can be felt in the opening and closing experience. Unfortunately the Classic SD falls short in this category due to the simple fact that the rough side of the nail file scrapes against the main blade. This makes the opening of the knife an unpleasant experience and also scratches the main blade. If you are a daily user this scraping is a constant reminder of this problem, and if you are a collector you end up damaging a knife you are trying to maintain in pristine condition. This detracts from the ownership experience which otherwise would be excellent as it is with other Victorinox Swiss Army Knives products that do not have this issue. I believe a simple solution would be to turn the nail file around so that the rough side faces outward, but I assume there is a reason this has not been done. I also have a SwissLite model that has a similar configuration with the nail file right next to and facing the main blade but it does not suffer from this issue because there seems to be a very subtle bend engineered into the base of the main blade that keeps it away from the nail file surface when opening. This subtle bend is not present in the Classic SD. Anyway, I hope this review is helpful and it’s only purpose is to try and give constructive feedback for an otherwise outstanding product.

I have been carrying this model of knife for as long as I can remember. I use it everyday. I have one for good clothes and one for work clothes. Unless I'm in swimming trunks or in bed, I have my Executive in my pocket. It's light enough to be unobtrusive in my pocket, but has enough tools to meet most of my daily needs. I usually buy one or 2 new knives every couple of years, but have never seen the blue one. All of the others have been red or black. I have never broke one of these knives, but I have worn out many.

I have had a number
10 July 2022

I have had a number of these exact models over the years and feel like part of me is missing if I don't have one in my pocket. TSA has claimed a couple when I forgot, I have given some to friends, and I have just plain lost a few. I usually buy them a couple at a time so I have a backup. That is how much I depend on them. Usually get Red but got Yellow this time to hopefully cut down the loss issue. I use the scissors and nail file almost daily. I never have to hunt for a knife to open a package. I still have my wisdom teeth with deep gum pockets around them, so the toothpick gets used a few times each day. They are small and unobtrusive in my pocket and I have never had one fail. The closest I have come to having a failure is having to sharpen the knife blade on a couple that managed to stay with me long enough to need that, and that is saying something because they stay sharp. For me, personally, they are perfect for my lifestyle and are a great value.

Love This Knife
31 January 2023

This is my favorite Swiss Army Knife. First, it does not have a pocket ripper (marketed as a corkscrew). A lot of great tools are packed into this knife. I love having scissors, a Phillips screwdriver, can opener and tweezers in addition to the knife blade.I have purchased two of these. The first I lost recently to TSA because I forgot you can't carry a pocket knife on an airplane. Anyway, I tried to make due with another pocket knife for awhile, and then I decided I couldn't do without this one, so I bought another. I cannot believe how often a Phillips screwdriver comes in handy. The tweezers are my go to for slivers and tick removal. The can opener is awesome. I've also raced people who were using a mechanical can opener, and I've beat them with this can opener (it does take practice). I cannot be without the scissors. They are great.I'm over fifty, and I have had many different knives over the years. This is by far my favorite, and I wouldn't carry anything else.

Proves Itself Right Away
14 August 2021

This knife is already proving to be fantastic! I had to purchase another pocket knife as I had tragically lost my Swiss Champ after owning it for 20 years. After considering the tools from the Swiss Champ, like what I used and needed out of it, I sprung for the Cybertool Lite. It meets what I commonly used prior and expands on those, particularly with the bit driver set. It also opens up new possibilities with tools that I didn't have on my old Swiss Army knife, specifically the pliers. There are less tools than the Swiss Champ, but I hadn't regularly used the tools I'm missing, so no worries there. The quality is as expected, fine Victorinox craftsmanship. And it's already proving useful, having used the magnifying glass and needle to bend the pins back on an ... MoreThis knife is already proving to be fantastic! I initially felt like it would end up being a gimmick; and it kinda still is, but its brightness certainly makes it useful, especially when I don't feel like grabbing a flash light while tinkering or don't have one near.Hard to find a con without being nitpicky, so I'll just conclude by saying it's perfect for me! Looking forward to new adventures and a longer number of decades with it!

Very good finish nice colour semi transparent works, different from normal
29 October 2022

A great looking knife and good set of features, the transparent brown (chocolate fudge classic SD) is a great colour with the see through effective, the scissors are very well engineered a mini set of the full size version. The only thing that is a bit of a problem is that the new nail file catches the main blade leaving small scratches ,I have a older SD in black with the original style of nail file which does not do this, not used as a present from a dear friend. But the old style isn't as good a file as the new which is much shaper and a better file, but does really need a bit more clearence between the blade and nail file, you can feel it catch, which is a real shame! ,I have 3 x classic SD and the alox all have blade scratches on the blade in the same place ... MoreA great looking knife and good set of features, the transparent brown (chocolate fudge classic SD) is a great colour with the see through effective, the scissors are very well engineered a mini set of the full size version. Still a great knife.

I have carried a escort in dark blue on my key ring for over 23 years, the years have taken their tole, the screwdriver tip has snapped, the scale emblem has fallen off.l lost one of the scale tools, easy to replace. The blade is still great and this has to be a testament to a real great knife. So with some reluctant a old frend is being retired, so looking for a replacement ,as the old knife got beaten up by keys and other key ring nick nacks a case of some type would be great your silicone case looked good.So I bought this orange knife(classic SD Mango Tango) as it comes with scissors a great upgrade and a longer toothpick, also I see the nail file /screwdriver has been changed with a new file surface and screwdriver bevel on the same size giving the back a flat ... MoreI have carried a escort in dark blue on my key ring for over 23 years, the years have taken their tole, the screwdriver tip has snapped, the scale emblem has fallen off.l lost one of the scale tools, easy to replace. Other wise a great knife.

Victorinox Executive
1 May 2023

I've been carrying one of the executives since receiving one as a birthday gift from my father in law. over 30 years ago over that time I've lost two and gave two to the security check at the airport. I always carried a red one and was so upset when getting them take at the airport with no resolution to have it returned to me oh well I was shocked when I found out that the Executive has been discontinued. So I bought the blue one hopefully I'll get a chance to purchase another red one one day I do feel lost without it in my pocket I believe that its the sweet spot for size and capability for every day carry I have several other models but they get little use as they seem a bit to large and the sheathed model is cumbersome on my belt. Very satisfied.

Victorinox is the real deal
22 August 2022

I had a red version attached to my keying for years. It's a small little thing, but that's the point, but if you get one, you'll find yourself using it all the time. It's frickin sharp and the scissors are so handy. But then my keyring disappeared to a place apparently unknown to mortal men. So I went on line immediately, to the "A" place first, of course, and then the Swiss Knife Shop. The selection was huge, and with free shipping, the Knife Shop was $6.00 less than the "A" store for the Star of David version delivered! I got my beautiful new blue knife with the nickel inlaid star and once again, I'm prepared to leave home and face the world.
