It charges at the maximum current of 17A, up to the point of 80% capacity, then drops the voltage down to limit the current until full charge is achieved, minimising over charging. The unit gets warm, which is to be expected, but not excessively so. It can be used äs is", but I use the Bluetooth function which is its main selling point. I use it with the Victron connect App, so I can monitor the charge at all times. I would give this 5 stars except for the App, which needs more work in some areas. I was not able to install my system into my off road caravan since I have not received all the components ordered from Livestainable.The last product was inly delivered on 20 December after I left for holidays. Not a happy client.
