Viltrox AF 13mm f/1.4 Overview Ideal for landscapes, cityscapes, street scenes, architecture, and more, the Viltrox AF 13mm f/1.4 XF is a sleek ultra-wide prime lens characterized by its portability, advanced optical design, and intuitive handling. Its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture balances size and speed and is suitable for working in available lighting conditions. It offers greater control over depth of field and provides a soft bokeh effect at wider apertures while also limiting the overall size and weight of the lens for everyday use. Designed for smooth video capture, the lens effectively eliminates focus breathing when changing focusing distances while shooting video, and an STM autofocus motor provides fast and responsive AF down to a minimum object distance of just 8.7′′. Optical Design Ultra-wide prime lens designed for APS-C-format Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras where it provides a 20mm equivalent to full-frame 35mm focal length. Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and helps to maintain a relatively compact form factor. 14 lens elements in 11 groups provide a sophisticated optical design. Two aspherical lens elements are optimized for distortion and off-axis optical aberration allowing the lens to maintain excellent resolution throughout the entire focusing range. Four ED (extra-low dispersion) lens elements greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations to produce greater clarity and color accuracy no matter which aperture you choose. Designed for smooth video capture, the lens effectively eliminates focus breathing when changing focusing distances while shooting video. STM autofocus motor provides fast and responsive AF down to a minimum object distance of just 8.7′′. Nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

I should have got this earlier. I end up spending way to much on lenses so the Sony 20mm is not out of the question in the future. But at almost 3x the price of this one I figure why not give this a try. I've used Viltrox's lens adapters and they work better than my bigger named brand adapters. Always solidly built, this lens is no exception. It reminds me of when I first picked up my Sigma 18-35. It's heavy! On my A6600, which already has some weight to it, this combo gets heavy but not uncomfortably heavy. It actually feels really durable. I took a handful of shots to practice and with focus peaking and focus magnification I hit each and every shot without a hiccup. Another flawless Viltrox product. I'll probably look into the lenses that they make for Fuji next ... MoreI should have got this earlier. I highly recommend.

Bought this for Fuji X-mount. Absolutely love this lens. The build quality is as good as any native Fuji lens, and the image quality is on par. The aperture ring turns smoothly with satisfying detents and the focusing ring is also smooth, if you're using manual focus. The image quality is clear and bright. There aren't a lot of options for wide angle lenses for X-mount...so definitely put this on your shortlist if you're looking for one.I took it to try at a friend's recital, and the width and breadth and scale that you can get exceeded expectations. In a darkened concert hall, this had no problem capturing a good image, and I'm certain your sensor will give up before this does. The only thing I can think of that may be a con is that this is a chunky lens - bigger ... MoreBought this for Fuji X-mount. Absolutely love this lens. Durable isn't a fair question because you can only answer that over time. If this lens was weather sealed, I'm sure it would increase sales and be a better competitor. It is sharp and focuses well. I'd like to refer to it as a story tellers lens because you can capture so much of a scene and crop to your liking later. Excellent for group shots and low light. Focusing doesn't hunt like 56mm 1.4 Viltrox. Aperture rings has no clicks. During a shoot it came out off Auto a few times but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Not alot of lens barreling. This is a great addition to my lens that I will carry and use....lol.

This is a great lens. The optics are outstanding and it creates great photos. I've used it for landscapes, city photography, portraits, and even some macro work on larger flowers. It's sharp wide open, but stopped down it's razor sharp edge to edge.Bokeh is limited by the focal length but is smooth when you set the lens up to create it.Distortion is just right and allows for creative control without looking weird.I have teenage daughters who always want their whole outfit in the photo along with context. This lens allows for that type of shot even in a crowd. They refer to this lens as my 0.5 because the field of view is similar to the 0.5 iPhone camera.I also plan on using it for some night sky photos but have been limited to my yard so far and the field ... MoreThis is a great lens. Especially in a landscape lens, weather sealing would be nice.
I'm actually considering selling my XF 10-24 R WR since shooting with this Viltrox the last few months. Unless I really need 10mm, I always opt for the Viltrox due to better image quality and f1.4Excellent build quality, fast AF, f1.4 and excellent optics at a very reasonable price. Only thing I could possible find fault with is it's kinda hefty for an APS-C prime. But well wort it!
I've been waiting for a fast (faster than f2), ultra-wide lens for the X mount for a while. I got into astrophotography a year or so ago and have been using the 16 1.4, which is an amazing lens but not quite wide enough to capture the sky as big as I want it.I haven't been able to shoot astro with this yet (thank you rain and clouds!), but I have taken this for some test drives around town. The EXIF information is captured in the photos, the lens returns pleasing colors, and gets sharper once you start to step down (maybe around f2.8). Wide open, there is considerable loss of detail in the edges (documented in other reviews online), and without another fast UW to compare to, this is probably normal. And given dark skies for astro, I don't see this being an issue.
A very good lens for Nikon Z DX cameras, Z50, Z fc, & Z30.The price is a bargain, the lens build quality is high, the images are excellent. This has pride of place on my Z fc as my fun and personal camera. Very handy when shooting indoors for events, as a lot of people can be in the image, as wide as it is, and the f/1.4 aperture works well with interior lighting. It also is quite handy for small town evening events. The images produced are brighter than my eyes, and I can shoot with available light well into the evening. This lens completes the set from Viltrox for the Nikon Z DX APS-C cameras, all f/1.4: 13mm, 23mm, 33mm and 56mm. I couldn't be happier with the Viltrox line. I'm waiting to see what else they will produce for my Nikon Z DX camera clan.I write for
I was looking for a decent lens to use for my YouTube channel. So like most I went down the YT rabbit hole and watched several videos about the lens. When I finally decided to pull the trigger and order the lens the anticipation was building. Once I received the lens I was absolutely pleased. Everything mentioned on YT was pretty accurate. This lens is great for talking head and should be used on a tripod. I haven't tried yet with my gimbal, I am absolutely satisfied and I think the 13mm is very versatile when filming video or vlogs. As a newbie to lenses, I made a great choice and so will you if you go the Viltrox route.
I'm awfully impressed with this lens, and with what Viltrox is doing lately with some other new lenses for Fuji. They are actually competing with Fuji's own impressive lens line-up, often finding the gaps. It's not just the value - that's all third party manufacturers to one degree or another, it's the quality they are attaining at that price. I've used this lens for astro, and landscape, but I think it has more potential than just those obvious uses. Great image quality, focus is great, and construction is solid.
Unreal.I'm leaving similar reviews on the Viltrox 23mm and 33mm 1.4 XF primes - part of the same family. Those lenses are both wonderful, high quality replacements for Fuji primes at a fraction of the cost - but the 13mm 1.4 is the standout of the family. There's not much not to love here. Close focus, tack sharp wide open, low distortion, fast AF, metal construction, and all around superb build quality. To be honest, I would have given this lens 5 stars for just hitting the optical benchmarks at this price - but to come in with the extras like all metal construction and close focus while being priced this competitively makes it almost too good to be true. Save your money on the native lenses, buy the Viltrox family instead, and spend the extra cash on a nice monitor that lets you appreciate how good this glass really is.
