The AF 85mm F/1.8 Mark II fixed focal length lens is lightweight, so you can be flexible and dynamic at all times. It offers a great aperture of F/1.8 as well as a particularly soft background bokeh. The classic portrait lens includes a quiet and smooth STM autofocus that reliably and precisely tracks your subjects. Thanks to the extra quiet operation, you can also capture wildlife or other nature photos that require extra sensitivity. In addition, the AF tracks human eyes, so you'll be sure to get your next portrait shot. The close focus distance of 0.8 meters also allows you to take beautiful photos at extra close range. A nano-coating on the lens glass effectively prevents ghost images and is even protected against water. The telephoto lens has a significantly longer focal length than a normal lens. This reduces the angle of view and makes photographed objects appear closer and larger than they actually are from the point of view where you are with your camera. This type of lens is therefore particularly suitable if you want to take format-filling photographs of distant objects. In addition, subjects photographed with a telephoto lens can be cropped very well due to the shallow depth of field - highlight the desired subject of your image by letting the background disappear in the blur.

I achieve perfect focus. Test shot is good with stars in good focus. As I start taking the next shots, the focus point changes and the stars get blurred. So, the lens is unable to maintain focus. I do not know if there is something that can be done to fix this problem.

I bought the Viltrox 85mm to replace the Rokinon manual focus 85mm. I am using it with the Fujifilm X-T2. The Viltrox is a far better lens with respect to image sharpness, even when using manual focus mode. I really love this lens, but I would strongly recommend using a ND filter with it, since this lens is all about using it at its widest or near widest openings. In many cases, you will need to use an ND filter to maximize the image fidelity as well as to achieve the outstanding bokeh that this lens offers at its widest apertures. One negative note - I wish images had just a little more contrast. That is my only reservation, but this minor issue can be very easily corrected in post.

All my pervious lenses have been from Fujifilm. I read several reviews and watched the You-Tube videos touting the Viltrox 85mm. After having researched this lens I went ahead and ordered it. Fast delivery and excellent packing from B&H. While the price difference between it and the Fuji 90mm lens is substantial the quality is similar. The Viltrox has a solid build, fast focus and very sharp images even at f1.8. I had to make the adjustment to changing f-stop using the front control wheel, not a big deal once I became familiar with the operation.
Over all super excited to have an 85mm in my collection, went out today took some photos and I'm amazing at the sharpness of it ! Only draw back is since I purchased it used the lens hood has been damaged and it was a pain to get off the lens. I did inspect it once I got it off and it look likes someone didn't put it on correctly and kept trying to force it on, trying to see what I can do to get another one but over all lens looked brand new and performs amazingly
All was going well with this lens until I started noticing significant purple fringing around the subject. Buyer beware! I don't usually write negative reviews but it's important for you to be aware. I wanted to see if this was a one time thing, but had some photos with purple fringe. Below I attach a photo where I manually removed as much purple fringe as possible, but it's still yet noticeable around the subject.
It is heavier, yes, when compared to the body of my X-T30, but the package together doesn't feel awkward. I mainly find myself, as a newer Fuji X-mount user, using the flip screen to take shots at lower angles and so my hand just ends up below the lens/body combination anyhow.Autofocus is more than fast enough for my use (filming family and my child riding a bike are the most extreme situations); certainly faster than my older APS-C Nikon with it's Nikkor 50mm. The Viltrox 85mm works well with my X-T30's continual focus, too, because of this so I just use that feature all of the time.I will look for Viltrox going forward because of how surprised I've been by this lens.
To keep it short, this lens rules. It’s ridiculously sharp and renders some nice bokeh and color/contrast. The build feels excellent. On my Sony a7II, there were times where the focus missed during the few shoots I’ve done since receiving this lens and it doesn’t perform fantastically in low light. But I’m primarily a portrait photographer, so I can take my time refocusing if it didn’t hit. It’s not often enough to bother me but I felt it should be mentioned. At this price bracket, I can definitely forgive this.If you want a solid portrait lens, I can’t recommend the Viltrox enough. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
