I really couldn't be happier with the purchase of this lens. The construction is very solid, the focus ring is very comfortable and has a smooth action. The auto focus is very fast and silent. And the optical performance is excellent. Razor sharp at the center, even at maximum aperture.

I was skeptical when I bought this, worried that a low price and good performance were incompatible. But having used in several shoots now, I'm very pleased. It's sharp, the bokeh is lovely, it works beautifully with my Z6, and it focuses well (though it can struggle a bit in very low light situations). I'm also very surprised and impressed by the build quality and design. I couldn't be more pleased.

I’m so happy to see such a high quality 3rd party AF lens finally be released for the Nikon Z mount. Yes, it is slightly heavier than the native 85mm but, the build quality is exceptional. Admittedly, I have not used the native 85mm Z lens but, I do own the 35mm and 50mm native lens and this is just as sharp, but for half the price. I couldn’t be more satisfied. I would confidently recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great portrait lens at a budget price.
The images produced by this lens are at par or at least with the native Nikon lens at just a lip over 1/2 the price of the Nikon oneThe only issues I've with it is that the lens hood attachment is finicky, sometimes it doesn't attach and at times it gets stuck on the lens especially when put on backwards for storageThe lens cap also doesn't really fit well and both the lens cap and lens hood feel so cheapI'd love to see viltrox make their lenses weather sealed

This lens comes at a good price. I compared it to the Nikon 85mm f1.8G that I had. It's a little sharper. There is some CA but it is less than the Nikon 85mm f108G that I was replacing it with. AF works perfectly. Eye AF works great no complaints. The focus ring is vary smooth. It came with the latest firmware installed. Got lens profile for light room and Photoshop for Viltrox website. I am vary happy with this lens.
Maybe I got a defective copy, it completely stopped working after about 1,500 shots, during my kid's birthday party (luckily it wasn't a paid shoot). Before it stopped working it was really sharp and focused fast and accurate. Unfortunately, I had to return it and I doubt I will purchase from Viltrox again. I have a $75 50mm1.8 from when I first started with a dslr years ago, that lens still works to this day! So for me the Viltrox conking out after 2 weeks is unacceptable.
Read plenty of reviews mentioning the hood can be sticky, but went for it anyway.Oops.Sticky is an understatement. It's currently reversed and is locked on to the point it feels like someone covered it in red Loctite. I hate to spend twice as much on Nikon's 85mm, but the Viltrox lens hood is so horribly engineered its unusable.
first of all, I want to start by thanking B&H for their amazing packaging. Now the lens, it is amazing, I just updated to the latest firmware, the lens is perfect, the AF is fast enough for my needs. Don't get me started about the build quality, its excellent. sharpness is amazing, I got this lens for my Nikon z50. I don't have the Nikon version of this lens, but I have seen all the reviews there is out there about these two lenses, the price of this lens is half of the Nikon version and I'm certain it delivers more than 90% of the Nikon z version.
