Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Home Trainer Tyre

With the advent of virtual training apps and the gamification of smart trainers, trainer season has become a year-round affair for some. For others, those apps and smart trainers almost take the “pain” out of “pain cave.” Almost.Regardless of your reason for it, indoor training is infinitely more enjoyable now than it was even a decade ago. With the Zaffiro Home Trainer tire, it’s also easier on your racing gear. The Zaffiro’s construction emphasizes longevity over on-road performance – which is wasted on a trainer or rollers – making it one of the most effective investments possible when calculated in terms of pennies per virtual mile. Trainers eat tacky, supple racing tires fast, but the Zaffiro is equal to the abuse.26 TPI Nylon CasingAn ultra-durable sheath of long-lasting protection. This casing isn’t as supple and buttery-smooth as 360-TPI cotton, but that’s not it’s job. Instead, it’s engineered to resist the roughest roads in the most challenging conditions without puncturing. Graphene 1C CompoundA revolutionary compound engineered with Graphene for high grip, minimal rolling resistance, and low weight. Simple, supple, superlative, and ideal for the velodrome.

Coming to the end of my third winter of trainer riding on this tire, and on mylast ride, I got two flats! Yes, flats on the trainer! Put a third tube in, andnoticed (finally) that the tire is splitting and deforming in a few locations, including the location of the two flats. Probably put about 400-500 miles on thetrainer each year, so this tire probably lasted about 1,500 miles max. Thought itwould last longer. Tread seems to have minimal wear. But I guess it cant take thecompression on the trainer (a Wahoo Kicker Snap, tightened to three turns of thescrew as instructed). Up to now, the tire provided good grip on the trainer.

I used this trainer tire on a Wahoo Kickr Snap. The tire pressure was kept at 105 PSI. The wheel tension setting for the Kickr was always kept at the recommended 2 1/2 turns. After 3500 Zwift kilometres the tire webbing on the inside started to break. This caused two holes in the inner tube. The inside surface of the tire shows a distinct black line about 1mm in width. This line runs the entire circumference of the tire. The black line is material from the inner tube transferring to the tire. The outer tread wear is around 20%. The outer tread surface is fairly hard. Not much stick to it as with a normal rubber tire. For this reason, I could never run the wheel tension lower than 2 1/2 turns. The outer tread has much more stick. More like rubber. Its surface is softer also. It might wear faster. I will try running the trainer with less wheel tension.

I put about 5500km virtually on this tire, while it does occasionally shed some rubber if I let the pressure drop it has stood up to a lot of abuse. Rides average around 200W on my Tacx trainer but with plenty of interval work from 250W to 350W. Will be replacing it with a new one, why mess with success?

Great at First BUT...Didn't hold up as expected.
17 December 2020

I bought this tire to replace a 4 year Conti Trainer tire. Due to COVID, the last season on the Conti was more like 2 seasons of use. The tire eventually started cracking all over, the casing was warped badly. I tried this Vittoria with open expectations. It was purchased in May 2020. I only used it when I couldn't go outside to ride during the spring, & summer. By November 2020, it has started to develop small cracks, it's getting noisy again like the old Conti. Very disappointed. I find you have to clean this tire more often than the Conti otherwise it develops a glazed surface and becomes noisy. Very disappointed with this product. The tire can't tolerate Zwift or Sufferfest for very long.

Bought the Zaffiro Pro home trainer tyre to try and resolve a tyre slip experienced using Tacx Genius when climbing simulated gradients >6% and sprinting. Put up with it for too long, power outputs were shockingly low and the smell of burning rubber was terrible. I was sceptical whether the Zaffiro would make a difference but it actually works really, really well. No tyre slip experienced since and I’ve done up to 12% climb and put 800W sprints through it. Wouldn’t say it’s quieter, there’s a different sound than a road tyre. Zaffiro was simple to fit to Mavic Cosmic rim (only needed hands and one tyre lever). Really happy with it. A month on and daily use, still looks brand new! Highly recommended.First time I’d ordered from Sigma Sports. Quiet and long lasting
17 March 2023

I just ordered my second one of these trainer tires. My first one is nearly worn out, but that's after several thousand miles and many winters when my peddling has been confined to my basement. It is absolutely quiet while rolling on my trainer's flywheel.

I just found out about this tire even though I have had a trainer for many years. With my road bike tires on the trainer I watch tv with the sound at 33 out of 100 still missing dialogue when actors speak softly. With these trainer specific tires I can her dialogue perfectly at level 11. Now I can get through the Winter with much longer sessions. Installing the tires was somewhat difficult for my bike but that is due to my deep aero Zipp wheels

Not quite sure what others are on about with this tire being louder than the road tires. This tire is 100% quieter than the Kenda Hybrid Road tire that I briefly tested the trainer with. Currently have the trainer tire inflated to 120psi and its showing no signs of bulging. Inner tube is the Co-op (Kenda) 23/25-622 (700c). The trainer has a much better feel with this trainer tire... who would've thunk it!

I bought this for use on the jamis coda comp bike with the kurt kinetic trainer last winter. I just needed to keep the tyre pump nearby. The setup is quieter than using my normal Continental Gatorskin tyre. How much quieter? Your mileage may vary. In addition, if you run a larger tyre like a 700x28 when on the road, you’ll need a smaller tube also.

Save your road tires! I've had this on my trainer bike for 2+ years and it still looks as good as the day I brought it. Train indoors year round. 100's of hours of use. Would absolutely recommend!
