Overall:I purchased the Greenback version in order to save a little money about 6 years ago from zZounds. This was my first tube amp, so the difference in my tone to me was so stark that I would have immediately rated it 5 stars across. Now that I’m a little older, a little wiser, I’m still giving it 5 stars across. I did, however, replace the greenbacks with Alnico Blues, and it made a world of difference, pushing this from a good amp into great amp territory. One word of warning: this is a bright amp, even into the normal channel. It is very finicky with drive pedals. The Fulltone OCD, Crowther Hotcake, Boss MD-2, and Boss Metal Zone are the one I ended up having luck with. You can also crank it for “that” sound. Everything else sounds absolutely fantastic. This is by far my favorite amp I have ever owned. I've tried many blackface and tweed Fender amps as well as Marshall's, and while all of them offered a great tone, none of them had the character and dynamics of the Vox AC30C2. I play mostly blues, blues-rock, rock, and some folk and this amp has got me covered for everything from SRV to Jimi Hendrix to Rory Gallagher. Paired with a Strat and a Rangemaster I've got, this amp just kills. You can get a pseudo-Uni Vibe tone with the tremolo effect and the Reverb tone effect lets you dial in just the right reverb sound. I run my Strat and Rangemaster into the low input of the normal channel witht he input volume cranked up. The tone is out of this world.the three handles on top of the amp make it a lot easier to ... MoreThis is by far my favorite amp I have ever owned. The reverb sounds great and the Greenback speakers just sound better and better as they break in. I've tried the C2 side by side with a C2X, and while there is in fact a slight difference in the clean tones and the C2X probably would win that battle, the greenbacks distort a lot nicer than the alnico blues. You can't go wrong with this amp no matter what style you play!

This is by far the best combo amp that I own. I only specify combo because I own 5 amps right now and one is a handwired head. But, by all means if you can only afford the AC30C2 version, go for it. If you want the Alnico Blues you can upgrade later! Love this amp, I think the Greenbacks sound great

Overall:I ordered this amp from zZounds and recieved it in 2 days. I plugged in and got a scratchy noise from the master volume, then the amp got very very hot! I called zZounds and they shipped me another new vox. The customer service was spot on! Anyhow. After playing my new vox, I was really impressed and couldnt put my guitar down. The amp really sings with a fender American standard stratocaster. The amp can get a lot of good tones. I play mostly blues and classic rock; nails all the tones I desire. Also, this amp takes pedals extremely well and I have a fairly large amount of pedals. If you want a pure tube, vintage tone this amp does it. I've owned Marshall's, orange, fender, mesa, and trace. This amp is the tone I've been looking for. Thank you zZounds for ... MoreOverall:I ordered this amp from zZounds and recieved it in 2 days. If youve never plugged into an ac30 it sounds very articulate. You can hear every string individually in a chord is the only way I can describe it. It has the beautiful clean sound, and it goes to dirty like Brian May. And believe me everywhere in between. Most classic rock is a Marshall plexi, everything else classic rock sounds like an ac30. Think of the early Beatles tunes, but it also distorts very well. Dont let the master volume fool you, the gain knob only effects the gain not the tone. And dont let that 30 in ac30 lull you into- maybe this amp wont be loud enough. I have it next to a 100 plexi and Im not sure which is louder. Ya its that close. Metal guys wont like this. Its not a jcm 800 with the gain on 10 and the bass cranked. Has just as much touch ... MoreIf youve never plugged into an ac30 it sounds very articulate. Has just as much touch sensitivity as my plexi too. Maybe more. Its my new favorite amp. My plexi just sits next to it. The more I play it the less I like my plexi, and thats a great amp!
I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and in many different bands mostly Hard Rock owned quite a few amps including Peavey and 4 Marshalls my last a Slash JCM Head 2555 Silver Jubliee paired to an AV1960. Then about 6 years ago I was asked if I would be interested in playing lead for this band that covers everything from country, blues, classic and hard rock. Immediately this was no job for my Marshall I needed something more portable and widely versatile to cover many different styles of music. I went to my local music shop talked with my saleman who also own a recording studio recommended VOX amps. I tried an AC30C2 Greenback and AC15C1X Blue Alnico both sounded great but the Greenback got my attention needless to say I chose to buy the AC30C2 and never ... MoreI've been playing guitar for over 20 years and in many different bands mostly Hard Rock owned quite a few amps including Peavey and 4 Marshalls my last a Slash JCM Head 2555 Silver Jubliee paired to an AV1960. I tried an AC30C2 Greenback and AC15C1X Blue Alnico both sounded great but the Greenback got my attention needless to say I chose to buy the AC30C2 and never looked back. This amp is simply awesome I can get the right tones for every style of music and songs we play, plus it has the power to really crank it up if needed this is the only amp I use. Vox AC30C2 is the most versatile and sturdy amp anybody can buy on the market owned mine for 6 years no problems or complaint. Those Greenback once broken in they seem to sound better and better especially with my 2 Les Paul, Standard and Custom 57 Black Beauty Reissue. Any serious guitar player not having this amp is really missing out something spectacular.
It's an AC30 through and through. The greenbacks sound great and the master volume is really nice to have. You have to crank it a bit before the amp really hits its tonal forté but with the master volume it can be used with less tonal amazingness at lower volumes. The amp takes pedals very well and has a great "players" quality without any pedals. A wide plethora of sound and tone can be had just with a mix of the onboard term, reverb, eq and your guitar's pickup selector, tone, volume, coil split/tap. The only down side is that it weighs a lot. If you gig a lot, be prepared to buy that special Vox crowbar because after a few months you'll have 16" arms and abs from hauling this thing around and will need said crowbar so your bass player can pry the groupies from you.
Overall:I had been searching for that "one" sound for many years. I've owned a orange rockerverb stack, marshall JMP nodded, jcm800 84 model, several mesa boogie amps, all my with fender. This amp covers all of the tones I want and need. The vintage clean tones are the best you can get, not to mention driving this amp with factory gain. I should also note, I play a fender American deluxe stratocaster and just comes to life with bluesy/jazzy melodies. I am very picky but this vox bleeds me away with pure British classic vox tone. This will be the last amp I have. I cant stop playing when I get going due to the monster tonal qualities. It more than serves my purpose and blows my friends blackstar ht out the door. Great job to vox and kudos to zZounds for the play as ... MoreOverall:I had been searching for that "one" sound for many years. Getting down to the simple facts, an absolutely amazing amp - a true masterpiece of engineering. Now for more...It's simplicity adds to it's raw power beautifully. There is no messing around with this amp, or spending hour upon hour tweaking an endless sea of tone dials. The Normal channel gives you a decidedly delicate touch for those softer clean tones whilst the Top Boost seems to respond to your actual mood, giving you a harder sound on demand and that gorgeous, unmistakable Vox crunch, delivered through two outstanding Celestion Greenback speakers. There's a reason why this Titan has been used so much over so many decades. They are equally fantastic, depending on your preference (it's all relative, after all!).If you're someone who likes to spend hours discussing tiny details of how a note could sound based on different days of the week, do not buy this amp. However, if your plan is to actually play and to find a no-nonsense sonic starship to take you on a musical journey of cosmic wonder, I seriously urge you to buy this amp.You will not be disappointed.
