Bernard Cornwell's epic story of the making of England continues in this eleventh installment in the bestselling Saxon Tales series--"like Game of Thrones, but real" (The Observer)--the basis of the hit Netflix television series The Last Kingdom. His blood is Saxon His heart is Viking His battleground is England "Perhaps the greatest writer of historical adventure novels today" (Washington Post), Bernard Cornwell has dazzled and entertained readers and critics with his page-turning bestsellers. Of all his protagonists, however, none is as beloved as Uhtred of Bebbanburg. And while Uhtred might have regained his family's fortress, it seems that a peaceful life is not to be - as he is under threat from both an old enemy and a new foe. The old enemy comes from Wessex where a dynastic struggle will determine who will be the next king. And the new foe is Skoll, a Norseman, whose ambition is to be King of Northumbria and who leads a frightening army of wolf-warriors, men who fight half-crazed in the belief that they are indeed wolves. Uhtred, believing he is cursed, must fend off one enemy while he tries to destroy the other. In this new chapter of the Saxon Tales series--a rousing adventure of courage, treachery, duty, devotion, majesty, love and battle, as seen through the eyes of a warrior straddling two worlds--Uhtred returns to fight once again for the destiny of England.

I love the whole series! Secret crush on Uhtred of Bebbanberg!I almost had to re-read a couple of the earlier books because I swore that they eluded to Uhted ending up with Aethelflaed (as more than just a side bit)... so was semi disappointed in that aspect - but still LOVED it!

Another great read in a great series. Finished off in less than a week during the busiest time of year.If you are interested in historical fiction, Cornwell remains among the best. If you liked Vikings on the History Channel you will enjoy the setting for Uhtred of Bebbanberg.

Love this book, and the writer. Was delivered, well, wrapped well and enjoyed reading it.
Great book! Bernard Cornwell is such an interesting writer. Love the Historical notes at the end of each of his historical fiction books!
Bernard Cornwell is the best living writer of historical fiction. This is his latest in a series, and continues the excellent standard set by its predecessors.
Not read this book yet, but I've read all the rest of the books in this series,(which is quite a lot), and , knowing this author this book will be just as good. It's a magnificent series, and I can highly recommend it to amyone who loves to read a good, thrilling story.
This is a great series. I wait eagerly for each new release. The tv series has just added to my enjoyment of the almost based on fact stories of medieval Britain dealing with Viking invaders and settlements, religious intolerance, the divine rights and incompetence of royal families and battles large and small. How they travel such long distances before maps were even drawn, quite amazes me!! A true gem of historic fiction.
Bernard Cornwell is an awesome writer and this book is the latest in the Saxon series that some say spawned Vikings and game of thrones. On top of it all I received a hard cover book. Good deal, read the book you'll enjoy it
I love this series by Robert Cornwell. It is always suspenseful because you never know what is around the corner for Uhtred. Cornwell does an excellent job of building suspense and maintaining tension in his writing. If you have never read this series i suggest buying the first book The Last Kingdom.
