A fantastic entry point, but an incomplete product when compared to other Kill Teams. It's just a tutorial.

Kill Team is a fantastic miniatures game -- and while the teams featured in the Compendium feel a little half-baked, that's only due to comparison to the two teams in here. Orks are each individually quirky and horrifying, while the Guard excel when the fight is fair and they have clear targets. It's a very fun dance. My only complaint is the sprues, as it can be frustrating to find the proper pieces for assembly, and you lack enough arms to build all the guardsmen gunners (you only get a plasma gun or a melta gun -- choose carefully). Still, that is hardly a detraction from a core product that is absolutely fantastic. The rules contained within for the teams aren't the full ones, which is a little frustrating, and I might recommend just buying the full Killteam: ... MoreKill Team is a fantastic miniatures game -- and while the teams featured in the Compendium feel a little half-baked, that's only due to comparison to the two teams in here. It's expensive for someone who is new to Warhammer like myself, but well worth the price. Very in depth manual. Not difficult to build the models. The terrain and board is amazing. Doesn't take up a huge amount of space on a table. It's the best starting point into Warhammer 40k.Make sure to prime your models and terrain first before painting. Will make the paint stick a lot better. Watch some videos on priming models first though.

As someone who enjoys casual 40K, it’s fun playing a version i can set up and finish in about an hour. The minis are great, the kommandos have a ton of personality right out of the box and it’s nice to have some guardsmen in plastic. My only gripe is that while you can have at least one of every kommando variant, a few guardsman builds are restricted by limited pieces (i.e. in order to have a melta gunner, plasma gunner, grenade launcher and confidant all out of this kit, you’ll need to do some minor kitbashing because they all share the same single arm). This didn’t bother me tremendously and it might not be an issue for you depending on how you want to kit your guardsmen. Great Deal

A great deal on a bunch of Warhammer miniatures, much better deal than purchasing these kits individually, plus the terrane and books are an added value. Best kill team set in years. Great value for the money. Package came in perfect condition.

Great for Painters
30 January 2024

Speaking purely from the perspective of a mini painter, this is a great box. The models are easy to put together, look awesome, and are enjoyable to paint. So while I can't comment on the game itself, I can recommend it for painters looking to add to their collection.

Great product, disappointing packaging
18 February 2022

This box is a great deal! I am pleased with the kit overall.Only giving four stars because of how it was packaged. The terrain was punching through the box itself and became heavily scuffed. The terrain is supposed to be scrap metal so it doesn't ruin the product, but it was disappointing to see.

Kill Team 2022 Starter Set

The terrain pieces included are VERY solid and have amazing amounts of detail. The Ork figures went together easily, and there were enough parts to assemble all possible Operative loadouts. The detail and personality of these figures is fantastic. I've been put off by old style GW Orks in the past, but these "boys" are ready to rumble. The Veteran Guardsmen unfortunately do NOT have enough parts to assemble their entire range of operatives. From some googling, it looks like you need two boxes of Veterans to do that. What's more frustrating is that they don't include enough parts (in particular, one very special elbow) to build all the Veteran Operatives that are used in the training scenario booklet. However, I was able, with some more googling, to find a way to ... MoreThe terrain pieces included are VERY solid and have amazing amounts of detail. The Ork figures went together easily, and there were enough parts to assemble all possible Operative loadouts. From some googling, it looks like you need two boxes of Veterans to do that. What's more frustrating is that they don't include enough parts (in particular, one very special elbow) to build all the Veteran Operatives that are used in the training scenario booklet. However, I was able, with some more googling, to find a way to convert an unused right arm into what I needed, and with a little gap-filling glue, everything is great. The rules booklet does indeed include the entire rules for the game, though like most GW games, each army has their own special rules, and neither the Orks nor the Veterans had their full set of options in the included materials. The Core Rules though are very complete, and if you can find a source for team-specific data, you will be good to go. As a side note, I'm a big fan of these small but complete rule books, ever since my first 40k experience with the MacCragge box set 20 years ago. That being said, this starter set does indeed include everything you need to get started playing Kill Team, from the counters, measuring tools, and barricades you will need, to some VERY nice short walls and garbage mounds, to two fun to build and flavorful armies. The introductory scenarios seem like they will be fun as well as instructional, and after raiding my terrain box for some additional parts, this set will serve as a nice starter point. In spite of its flaws, I *do* recommend this box. The price is "GW reasonable" for the amount you get, and aside from the Recruit Edition booklet, there is nothing in this box that won't get used even as you expand your Kill Team collection.

It's an amazing set. 2 kill teams, tokens, measuring tools, dice and terrain in one bundle. The value is unmatched since each kill team is $50 each as stand-alone boxes. The token set is $30.The product is packaged great, and the models are high quality as all GW models are.
