Really want to like these shorts. Material is great, lightweight, seems durable, and the shorts are comfortable. I like the pockets. In that sense, these shorts are what I was looking for -- something I could wear in the water, then not feel like I needed to change out of to head into town or just hang out. My issue is the darn velcro closure instead of a button or snap. It's a deal killer for me. It's not super grippy velcro. Maybe Patagonia designers did this because they don't want it to be scratchy, but by going with a softer velcro, it barely holds together. Numerous times I would discover that the top of my shorts had come unstuck, and I'm not busting out of the shorts by any means. My Birdwell board shorts have a button at the fly, and that's been no issue. I ... MoreReally want to like these shorts. Material is great, lightweight, seems durable, and the shorts are comfortable. The velcro is OK at the back pocket -- tho a button would be preferred there as well -- but it simply is a design fail at the waist. At $69 for a pair, I expect better.

I've lived in Patagonia board shorts for the past 25 years; these un-lined nylon shorts are by far the best ever made; super durable, dry quickly and become even more comfortable with time. For backpacking, these are magic; the flat/smooth waistband won't chafe under the hip belt of a full pack. After finally ripping a hole in my favorite 12 year old pair, it was time to renew. This newer version looks similar with some nice additions; hand pockets are handy for everyday use (will they become sea-anchors while surfing?) The zipper fly is kind of nice. The back pocket has a Velcro closure rather than the older version's zip pocket; I like the zip pocket better (more secure). Hopefully I'll get another 12 years out of these shorts.

I am very happy with the Hybrid walk shorts. The quality is excellent, they are light, look and feel great, are very practical and dry quickly. Everything you could want in a short really.

I own several different styles/types of Patagonia shorts but purchased these shorts for everyday wear during trip to Costa Rica. Walked, swam, and worn them in the shower to launder. They're comfortable, durable, lighweight and dry very quickly. Great crossover garment for land & sea. They performed so well overall that I bought a couple more pairs since returning to Florida. Now they're my go to - I wear them most days. Thanks for another great garment!
I got these shorts anticipating they would last a decade like my last pair of Patagonia swim trunks. I use them in rivers, lakes ,swimming pools, hot tubs, etc. Within a week the nice dark blue color started to fade and by the end of the month they were very light gray, almost white. Then the material started to disintegrate. I would blame it on a bad mix of chemicals in a swimming pool or hot tub, but I switched to a pair of old running shorts and I haventhad any issues with them in the same location. I think that maybe the recycled material does not hold up to chlorine and/or salt water.
If these shorts had a simple single button fly (as the boardshorts do) I would give ‘em 5 stars. The zipper is ok, but I think a button would hold up better in the long term. That said, these shorts are comfy and functional.
These shorts are fine. I was trying to replace a pair of Patagonia shorts I bought a few years ago, and hoping the fabric would be a little lighter and pliable. The fabric is still comfortable and the shorts feel like they will be durable. I tend to wear pants and shorts on my hips, and these kind of restrict the range of motion in my hips; may impact bouldering, unless they are hiked up. I wish the waist was a little more forgiving and that the drawstring was just a string on the inside of the waistband.
I was looking for some quick drying board shorts that I could wear for casual and also on the water. I do a lot of fly fishing from my paddle board as well well out in my boat swimming, towing the kids on tubes etc and just hanging out. Wanted boardshorts with pockets as well to hold wallet, keys and stuff. These are perfect. Also wanted a pair of red shorts and the color I got was perfect. Love the look. Love the utility. Love the fit. Thanks.
Writing review because I hesitated on sizing before purchasing and they didn't have any in stock at Ventura store. After reading many reviews I sized up to 34 and fit perfect. Take into account that they have no stretch. Normally wear a size 32/33 in other brands. Purchased four colors about to order another, would recommend.
The outseam measures about 16.5", not 18." As a tall, long-legged, skinny person, these are way too short to just wear around. I'll still use these for swimming, but they're far shorter than a walk short should be--and far shorter than advertised. These also have a weird fly/closure system...a zipper fly, an ineffectually tiny piece of velcro, and then a standard boardshort drawstring on top of that. There's a lot going on and it doesn't quite work.
