8x 18TB WD Gold HDDs in a IXsystems TrueNAS Mini fileserver being constantly bombarded and still going strong, running cool, minimal noise and all pass SMART test. The price dropped dramatically since I purchased them, but I do not regret getting them. May build another fileserver just like the first one. Two other 16TB WD Golds in two NVR servers also going strong for 11 month now.

These HDDs are highly recommended and I have had great luck with WD drives in the past. They are set up in a raid 1+0 and are used as daily back-ups of work data on a TB3 external enclosure. Throughput is good and they continually pass all diagnostics. The reason for 3 of 5 stars is that at least one of the drives and likely 2 are very noisy. They rattle, clank and gurgle when accessed (not the head crashing type of noise). Because of that I may be replacing them. The shopping exp was good, delivery was fast, packaging was excellent, performance as stated is good.

Purchased two 16TB Gold Drives, both arrived DOA...Calling support was time consuming, and frankly a joke. I was put on hold multiple times so the rep could "check on some information" about a simple return and replacement - only to be told that I have to return both DOA products for a refund, then make another purchase if I want new functioning drives. Another cherry on top is that these drives now have 1-2 week shipping lead times, so even if I wanted to re-purchase them I need to wait even longer. The first support agent kept trying to get me to initiate a warranty return, and stated that I would most likely receive refurbished/remanufactured drives as the replacements which makes no sense and was frankly insulting. I have had these drives in my possession for less that 4 hours and they want me to do a warranty return - ridiculous. One of the drives cannot be initialized by either my Synology NAS or in Windows and made some pretty awesome clicking/grinding noises, and the second threw S.M.A.R.T errors indicating that there were multiple bad sectors and to run quickly from this drive.I suspect this was due to both drives being shipped in a box barely big enough to hold them(OEM, in anti-static bags only), and the packing material was the "air bag" type that arrived completely deflated offering 0 protection. In transit I imagine these were clanking around and knocking into each other - which probably didn't help things.I just don't understand how I can order "enterprise" level drives and have such poor shipping and support all around. I understand things happen and there will be DOA's, especially since I have over two decades of experience in tech logistics and customer support, but this was a failure at every step and I honestly can't comprehend how it was this bad. Please reach out if WD needs a consultant on your fulfillment and support, I would be more than happy to assist in bringing your methods and processes into the 21st century.

Incredible hard drive all around! I decided to use SSD for the oD and this drive for memory! The 256MB cash speaks for itself, the response time is fantastic. I have another one and I use it with Synchronogy to have my own cloud storage for half the price of the ready solution sold on the market.
This drive was dead on arrival. Because of the hack on WDs website, I have not been able to submit a return request for four weeks. Total Fail! This drive spins, but the heads apparently will not move. It never writes any format data.
Bought two of these to back up a 4x8TB software raid array. Using them in an external dual drive sata dock and was able to transfer everything effortlessly. Drives arrived in perfect condition from a warehouse local to me. I am particularly impressed with the box these ship in - the thing can hold 20 drives and is very suitable for storing drives as well that you happen to have unplugged (cold). That's a free storage solution right there lol. Great job WD!!!
Purchased a new Omen desktop screaming machine. This was exactly what the doctor ordered. I have a WD disk drive (external) that I've owned for over 10 years. It's case was broken in a move, but it is still humming along. Love WD. Thanks again for a great product. All my SSD drives are WD, also. Nothing compares. I was IT in my past career, and I always loved your hard drives.
Perfect for PLEX movie server. Used in 8 @ 4TB drive RAID50 Mediasonic external enclosure. Connected USB-A (3.1 mode); transfer rate always exceeds 100MBytes/sec. This setup previously used similar WD lower-capacity drives that worked continuously and flawlessly for many years.
I really appreciate being able to buy directly; this is a large plus. The drive was shipped quickly and was well packaged. The 2TB version is quiet, which is important for my use case as the array is in my office. The write speeds when tested with HD Tune prior to adding it to the RAID array was 190 maximum, and 156 average, which is close to the published max read value. I will be buying more of these to expand the storage in the future.
I like the 5 year warranty as that is important to me. I want more storage space to handle my data and these drives appear to be better than the black caviars and of course offer the larger size and the HE based gas to allow larger sizes. The only problem for desktop computers is they are much noisier than a black caviar drive, but that is the drawback of using a drive meant for a datacenter and not home consumers computers.
