I bought this drive because I was very mad about my lack in storage in my server, this was the best purchase that I have ever made. The drive is very reliable and has been through quite a few power outages and brownouts before I got a UPS and it's still trucking along like nothing ever happened. The performance of this drive is very quick as long as you have the system it is put into configured correctly. The only slight issue I have is the drive is quite loud while it is doing a SMART test, but I don't see that big of a problem with that because it is a standard thing that makes sure the drive is functioning correctly.

Got the Gold for the size and speed, but video files are slower to load than I'm used to. I can't figure out if that's a problem with my new computer or the HD.Another problem is the loud grinding noises it sometimes makes. Maybe because of it's size? I ran checkdsk and it said it was ok, but I can't help but worry about it now. Sometimes it's normal HD sounds, but sometimes it's sounds like metal on metal grinding.Also, I wasn't expecting the 14tb to be only 13tb, so now I regret not getting the 16 because I'm running out of room already and my new computer only has one space for a 3.5 hd.I ordered directly from WD and it was shipped quickly.

I replaced two, 6TB UltraStar drives with two, 18TB Gold Enterprise drives in my RAID chassis, which I use as a Time Machine backup for my Mac computer. I've had the drives for a couple of weeks now and everything has gone swimmingly. The only complaint I have is the noise level of the drives. Since the Gold Enterprise drive specifications are similar to that of the UltraStar drive, I expected the same level of noise. What I found, however, is the Gold Enterprise drives are noisier. You can definitely hear the read/write heads shuttling around in the drive. There is definitely room to improve the drive design in this regard. I have installed and used many of these drives. Not 1 has been DOA and several have been going over a decade (Including Black HDD). Only problem is that both times I got a warranty replacement (failing smart-but still working) they replaced them with lesser drives. Granted they were close to the end of warranty, but a blue drive is NOT a replacement for an enterprise drive. I haven't had problems with the RMA process and turn around was fast, just not equal replacements.
I would definitely recommend these drives, but they DO make some pretty loud noises occasionally. Almost like a head crash but seems that's just normal operating/initialization noise. Once they get going they're not all that bad and not much noisier than other drives. They just weren't made for silent operation. I had them in a drive carrier that stacks them in 4's while waiting for them to validate outside of a case, and started getting temperature warnings (60 degrees), but put a nearby fan on them just to get some air circulation and that solved the problem. Make sure to have circulation. Otherwise, they've gotten built into a home array with parity, and are currently loading up with data. Highly recommended.

The drives perform well against all benchmarks I have thrown at it. I have had no data failures in the time I have owned it.I will however issue potential buyers this warning. However, according to my calculation if every thing goes fine, this HDD should last for 15-20 years or at max 30 years for me as my average PC run time is 4.8 hours per day(in the last 6 months). This drive hasn't produced much noise so far nor it get heats up. Literally, it remains much cooler than my Samsung 970 EVO + 2TB NVME. I dumped nearly 2TB of data at a room with a constant ambient temp of 67°F and the drive temperature was 98F. However, all these data is as of today and it's been just 2 days. There's a whole life ahead and will update my review. One of the important thing for users is how much user space we get in 6TB of HDD. So, I got 5.45TB of space in a 6TB HDD. This is the strangest hard drive Ive ever owned since the beginning of hard drives. Its very noisy on startup, with lots of thumping and chattering. It soon settles down and then just periodically chatters a bit. Its actual performance & capacity is outstanding. At first I thought this new hard drive must be defective with all this extraneous noise, but Ive seen several other reviews mentioning these noises. So now I dont know what to think. I would be very curious to read some more reviews on this hard drive.
Love it so far. With its long warranty, I have the confidence to trust this drive with my data. I purchased two and have them in a Sabrent JOB enclosure connected via USB 3.2.As long as it works and delivers the rated speeds in the years to come, what's not to like? I gave it 5 stars, although if I wanted to quibble, I'd probably take away 1 star for the unusual noises it makes during operation. It's not particularly loud, however, so it doesn't bother me much.
