Transport your files securely with the compact WD My Passport 1TB SSD. Because of the metal casing, this external SSD can withstand both bumps and dust. That way, the chances are small that you lose your files if the My Passport falls from your pocket to the floor. The combination of data encryption and a password protects your files from theft. With the USB-C 3.1 connector, you can transfer files of a few gigabytes in just seconds. Thanks to the 1TB storage capacity, you can store about 282.000 photos or 820 videos. And this SSD is only 10cm long and 5.5cm wide. That means the My Passport easily fits in the pocket of your coat or pants.

I bought the WD 4TB My Passport as a backup drive for my iMac. I formatted it properly before use. It failed within one week. By failing, I mean the drive was inaccessible. Disk Utility could not open it. It was a brick. Figuring it was a manufacturing exception, I ordered a replacement. The same thing happened in only two days. It's a shame because I have several large-capacity Western Digital HDDs I have used for a few years. One of them finally failed, so I intended to transition to SSDs. Obviously, that won't be happening.

While I would recommend whole heartedly for use with a Mac or Pc as a backup or drive extension; if you want to use for Time Machine, I hope you have an easier time than I...Another word of caution, this SSD comes with some Paragon software which you don't need and I'd advise not to use as it's not ready for Monterey but can be used in pre OS's.

MY PASSPORT to the Future
24 June 2022

This 2 TB SSD external drive replaces the 1 TB SSD external drive I bought 8 years ago. It is significantly smaller and lighter than my old drive. Easy to use and I did not have one problem!!!! I love this drive. It fits perfectly in my shirt pocket, with no 'sag' on the shirt! I plugged it into my docking station and was able to copy the entire old 1 TB drive over to the new 2 TB drive in moments!!! AMAZING!!! STUNNING!!! I can store more with less of a footprint!!! And I could choose my favorite color, to add a little "pizzazz" to my desk! I am very satisfied with this purchase and the favorable result. Highly recommended!!

Returned to Store
21 June 2022

I bought the 2TB Passport in order to back up mostly Spitfire Audio samples from another external. Not only did it constantly keep turning off in the middle of a big transfer of 600GB, my computer restarted itself. (Not good in general). It also kept giving error messages saying something was corrupt. It took me the WHOLE day to deal with it. Well, the next day I got an even exchange for a Samsung at the same price. Samsung? Worked flawlessly and in handles everything in an hour. Never again will consider a WD product.

Solid State Drives Are Worth the Extra

Over the past several years I have purchased more than several solid state drives (SSD). Over that same time I have noticed that the prices of SSDs have come down, and the reliability has improved. (I had some issues with some of the first drives I bought, but I am not certain what the causes were.)The 2 TB Western Digital SSD I most recently purchased works as expected, is stylish (for an SSD), and is a great media for backing up your files. I work off of a 1 TB SSD thumb drive on multiple my workstations, and back up my files at least once a week to another portable device. Its nice to have the nearly 1 TB of files I have created over the years backed up on another device like my WD 2 TB SSD. My back up ritual is simple (copy and paste), and is relatively quick given the number and size of files that I back up. As the price of SSDs comes down, and the technology improves having an SSD as part of you tech equipment will become an even bigger value.

Terrible Product!
8 September 2021

I purchased 2 of these SDD drivers in Jan of 2021 (both are 2TB models).Transfer speeds are fast and good when using the drive. Response time of the drive is slow when the drive is inactive and then reactivated to dump files on the drive (especially when building folders or navigating folders quickly within the drive). However, my complaint is that last week one of the two drives suddenly stopped working during a file transfer. Then the drive showed up as renamed (not the name it was given) and blank of any data (note: drive was getting closer to 80% full). Contacted local SanDisk and had the drive sent to them but they were unable to recover the data and only planned to replace the drive free of charge. However, with replacement they would not send the old drive back. Since I really need the data I did not agree to the replacement and am having the drive sent back to me. Possibly I will try another third party to recover the data. I have been using external hard drives for the past 20 years and never ever had an issue with HDD drives. This is my first experience with a WD SDD drive and it is terrible. Only 9 months after purchase and failure and unable to recover my data. Also, unable to replace the drive without full surrender of the broken drive. I have no concern to surrender the old drive if they can recover data. Even no discount to keep the old drive on new drive purchase. Solution for a bad product is just to replace a new one - whatever happened to building a quality product? This is customer's data that the drive is suppose to be securing. 9 months on a drive that cost over 300USD. Drive was cared for and always placed in a case, never dropped, never outside or damaged in any way.

Transfers files fast
24 March 2023

Bought this small drive to do file and folder backups for my Lenovo Yoga, which I’ve done successfully multiple times. This is my first 500GB SSD drive from WD, and I’m impressed with its light weight and portability. Approximately four by two inches across and very thin. It comes pre-loaded with WD Discovery and WD Utilities; however, Utilities does not recognize it as a WD drive, while Discovery does. When I called WD Support they advised reinstalling Utilities. I reinstalled several times only to have the same result, “Attach a WD Supported Drive.” This 500GB drive is formatted as a thumb drive (exFAT) while my WD 1TB is formatted NTFS. The USB C data transfer cable can be converted to USB A with supplied adapter.

The WD MY PASSPORT SSD 2TB drive is a Great little drive with a lot of space for system backups. This drive is replacing my WD My Passport Ultra 1TB drive that I have been using for “Time Machine” backups on my MacBook Pro. The My Passport Ultra 1TB drive was working fine, I just wanted a faster drive with more space. I formatted the new SSD drive as APFS (Case-sensitive, Encrypted). APFS is the default file system for Mac computers running macOS 10.13 or later, features strong encryption, space sharing, snapshots, fast directory sizing, and improved file system fundamentals. I would Highly recommend this drive.
