This drive is great for my home surveillance system. Running 4 cameras on 1080p and its barely hitting 5% on disk activity. Highly recommended

Commercial grade at a fair price

I have a lottttt of data so I got this. I did not realize the transfer rates on 3.5inch spinning drives have gone up. With a USB 3 adapter/reader dock this was transferring over 100mbps. It makes the spinning drive sounds that these make, but it is actually quit quiet. I use it exposed versus enclosed so it is a little more clicky sounding, but sound wise, if it were enclosed, it would probably be unnoticeable. Plus, it doesn't sound that bad - I actually miss the sound of data moving around haha. I would need it to be used for years to really write on reliability as I have neevr owned these, but looking at the specs, this appears to be a similar design, if not the same drive as their commercial grade drives for business. The specs that relate to reliability were the highest I could find at a reasonable price point so I am not disappointed. It actually stays quite cool as I transferred multiple terabytes worth of data at a time and it never really got hot, just warm - and this was in an open dock without a fan or active cooling. When I need to access data or write, it is very quick and never gives me trouble. I am pretty sure I will have this for years - especailly as I always get an overkill for my needs to ensure reliability and longevity.

Excellent Hard-drive 6T

Ladies and gentlemen, I am happy tk report that o successfully used two of these hard drives (6T each) for my lorex NVR.Note that it doesn't come with any power cables or anything else. You only get the bare hard drive.With that being said, it works great!!!

I bought this drive to increase the capacity of my security DVR from 2TB to 12TB. I have had good experience in the past with various types of Western Digital drives -- no failures at all on drives I purchased new -- and the specifications are good. I was particularly attracted by the five-year warranty. It installs like any other drive, and I don't notice any excessive noise, though there are other noisemakers in the room so I don't have a very good read on this. I did a full surface scan, run by the DVR, which showed no bad sectors. It's a big drive, so it took 36 hours! Overall I am pleased with the drive.

Plug and Play!

I mounted the Purple drive in an existing NVR, connected the power and SATA cables, powered it on, it came up immediately as additional storage for the NVR. 8 gb gave us an additional 90 days of storage with 27 cameras.

Reliable drives for for critical applications.

I purchased two 18Tb WD Purple Pro drives for a Ubiquiti NVR that I set up at a construction site. I have used these drives before with other UniFi NVRs and they work very well. I just added several additional 4K cameras so I am also adding two more drives to the system. We are using the drives for security and to document the build. I have had other WD Purple Pro drives in use for over a year on similar projects and they have been working well.

Western Digital = Long Time Trusted Brand

Finally got around to replacing my satellite tv dvr's Seagate 500GB hard drive after so many freezes and lock ups. It was driving me nuts! Installed this Western Digital Purple drive 2TB and has been working great with no more freezing or lock ups! Plus the additional storage space means I can keep more recordings a lot longer. It does run a little warmer but does not affect it's already fast performance. The great price point and Western Digital's awesome reputation makes it a simple choice for this drive.
