Replaces my bottom grate and cooking grate after 10 years of frequent use and abuse. Very happy with the quality of both and pleased I chose the grate with the side flaps and removable mid section. It’s heftier than the original and gaps slightly smaller which works well. Delivery was a little slow and there was very little communication between order and receipt so I didn’t really know what was happening until I got a text from the delivery company. I expected there to be way too much packaging but was pleasantly surprised.

I bought a Gourmet BBQ System Cooking Grates - 22" charcoal grill. The center ring completely warped and now falls down to the coals rendering the grill useless. Very disappointed. Need replacement 22.5" cooking grate wire insert to continue grilling. Will add photo of defective component at a later time.Love the grill but not the grate.

Not sure what’s happening with this grate. I got a new Performer Deluxe for Father’s Day. Every time I use a grill brush it pushes the center grate off the main grill and it falls into the coals. I cannot clean the edges near the overlapping pegs without it falling into the coals. Absolute garbage. The grate is heavy but non-functional.After my wife and son spent $600 I have to drop another $70 on a new grate. Maybe I’ll just have them take it back. I have my old Performer from 20 years ago that works fine it just needed a good cleaning.

Bought this grill to replace the same one I've had for several years. I find it very functional and I use the removeable center and folding flaps. Its typical Weber quality, best in its class. I received the order in a fairly roughed up box, appeared damaged in shipping, and the grill was useable but slightly out of round. I was able to get it right, didn't need it replaced, and posted a review. Weber contacted me a day later based on my review and shipped a brand new one out. Great product and even better service!
I have owned Weber charcoal grills for 30+ years and have absolutely loved them. But this grate that came on my new Performer grill is horrible. There is no way to hang the grate when lighting the grill since the round part falls out so there's always a greasy mess. And the spatula is always catching on that round part when grilling burgers. Looks like I will be trying to clean up and use the 20-year-old rusty grate from my oldest grill. Never thought when paying so much money for the grill that I would get something designed so poorly. Why change something that worked so well for so many years?
I really like the Gourmet BBQ System Cooking Grates, the flip sides make it really easy to add fuel to the fire as you cook and the removable center allows you to add a wok or a cast searing grill to your kettle. The metal bars used to construct the grill have a larger diameter than the older versions of Weber kettle grills and this makes them feel more sturdy, but also easier to clean. The only down side is you need to remember to remove the center before hanging the grill from the kettle handle, or it falls on the ground. To overcome this I have just made myself a separate hanger from a piece of wire.
Came with my 70th Anniversary kettle. Nice that the sides fold up to add charcoal to the sides. Horrible that the center grate piece falls into the hot coals when attempting to clean the grates….prior to cooking, after cooking and worse when trying to clean after 1 food so another can be cooked. Horrible design.
Weber Grills are so disappointing now. My Performer purchased three years ago has warped charcoal grate (as if it melted), and the individual spines on the cooking surface have done the same. When I got married 39 years ago I received a Weber Grill for a wedding present that lasted 25 years. I believe that the real weber grill are only available at this time from high end appliance stores ($1700 or so). These may have been made of materials similar to the original grills. The current $100 purchase was to replace the cooking grate, the charcoal grate and the ash fin system. The grill was covered (the 25 year old grill was not). Very disappointed that the quality is soo poor, but happy that I can continue to invest money into the grill to keep it functional while I ... MoreWeber Grills are so disappointing now. The center removable part when placed under direct hot charcoals got too hot (isn’t it supposed to be designed to withstand high heat??) that I completely oxidized to a point when they were impossible to clean. It looks all rusty and crusty now and impossible to restore back to its shiny condition no matter what I try. It is completely ruined. The rest of the grate still looks and works fine even though i sometimes Place the hot coals to one side instead of the center, exposing them to similar high heat as the removable part. I guess they are not made the same, the center grate is now completely ruined and I am having to look for a third party replacement for it. Not what I expected for such an expensive grill grate.
The center piece of the grate is not attached to the larger grate... I am not sure why, except so that Weber can sell a bunch of cooking accessories to fit into the hole. For those of us who just like to grill on grates, this removable piece is a nightmare. As other customers have already pointed out, the center piece falls into the coals on a regular basis. Trying to get that hot metal off of hot coals through a hole that is surrounded by other hot metal is a treat. If Weber wants to keep the removable center, fine, but they should design a way that you can lock the center piece onto the outer part of the grate so it is secure (and thereby safer).Or they should just make and sell a normal grate (aka, no hole) with this thicker gauge.
