Weber 7447 Compact Rapidfire Chimney Starter

The disadvantage of charcoal barbecues is that you often have to wait a long time before you can start to barbecue. With this useful charcoal starter, you take a different approach and the coals will be hot enough within 30 minutes. The compact briquette starter is a safe and easy way to enjoy your barbecue more quickly. Place the firelighters on the lowest rack and place the charcoal-filled or briquette-filled starter on top. The coals are close together and will heat quickly, thanks to the 'chimney effect'. As soon as they're at the right temperature, you can just pour your coals into the barbecue. Thanks to its compact size, this Small Weber Briquette Starter is suitable for the Weber Smokey Joe and the charcoal version of the Weber Go-Anywhere.

Fast charcoal lighting

I hate the polluting smell of artificial lighting agents for barbecues and this gadget gives faster and more even lighting of the charcoal. It is amazing - and fits well into the portable bbq for easy transport.

The best way to light coals. I'll let the true grilling aficionados rave about how you simply *must* use a chimney instead of lighter fluid for taste alone. Used with two Weber lighter cubes, even lump charcoal will be white in under 20 minutes. Every. Single. Time.

Large capacity, quick starting

This chimney's ability to get coals ready fast is quite a bit better than the generic chimney. The problem with generics is that they took out the wire bottom and put in a perforated plate. This chimney has a wire bottom that is cone shaped and it is surprisingly fast.It is not a 5 star because of the plastic grip. It gets too hot. This is one area where the others have it right, they use a low density wooden grip and that will not transfer heat to your hand anywhere near as fast as plastic. A 2nd stacked, heat shield would help too.The capacity is greater than most other chimneys too.

Light Right
13 May 2020

I have always piled charcoal briquettes in the center of my grill and doused them with lighter fluid to get my grill started. Overall I have been satisfied with the results. However I never liked the residue the lighter fluid deposited on the sides of my grill bowl. I couldn't help thinking that those repeated deposits over the years was affecting the flavor of my grilled food especially when I used the dome.Recently I purchased a new Jumbo Joe grill and decided to give the Rapidfire Compact Chimney Starter a try in conjunction with the Rapidfire Fire Starters for my charcoal. I have been very pleased with the results. My experience has been that only 1 fire starter under my Rapidfire Compact Chimney Starter is required to have my charcoal ready to go in about 15 minutes. Upon lighting the Chimney Starter directs all the smoke and soot up and away from the sides of my grill. I will not go back to my old method.

Really Fast Starter!
13 November 2019

I was surprised how small it is when it arrived but was really impressed with it compared to my old, larger chimney. The full-size Weber sold in the store is just too heavy for me, and for Weber 18" smoker, Weber recommends only filling it half-way so no point in spending more to use only half of it. This Rapid Fire with its cone-shaped charcoal grate shoots the heat to all charcoals very fast so also reduces smoke to light charcoals! This will be pack easier and be perfect for my camping mini-grill. Probably too small for large Weber kettle grills that need lots of lit charcoals at the same time. With my 18" Weber smoker, because I use the minion method, I can fill this little guy up, and dump it on the non-lit charcoal or wood in the grill! Plastic handle can get very hot, so wear gloves which everyone should do when pouring out hot charcoals anyway. Helps if you place only the metal round part of chimney on your grill with the handle pushed to outside edge of grill and farther away from the heat.

Super Quick Lighting
7 September 2023

Great size for a smaller bbq. Impressed with how quick from lighting to ready to cook. Very efficient. Takes any faff out of charcoal bbq!Only one negative is that the coating comes off after first use from heat. It is just an aesthetic thing and does not affect use at all.

Weber Rapidfire Chimney Starter- Portable
27 July 2021

Worked well, but the charcoal capacity is really far too small for our Weber 47cm diameter barbecue, despite what the makers say.A lot of people swear by using a chimney starter to light their barbecue, but personally, I didn't find that using one gave us any real advantage. We have always got good results by using enough top quality charcoal, and making sure it is properly, and evenly, ignited in the first place. Using the chimney starter actually slowed things down, as due to its small capacity we had to add more charcoal and wait for it to burn properly before we could cook.To sum up, this device would probably be fine for using with a very small barbecue, especially with poorer quality fuel, but it's not for us.

Weber® Portable Chimney Starter
17 August 2020

We recently bought a KamadoJoe Jr, and while it is easy to light on its own, even using wood wool firelighters, it's quite smokey until it gets going. I don't mind the smoke, but it could quickly drive all our window-open neighbours mad. This little gadget gets a good lot of charcoal going fiercely, really quickly; still a tiny bit of smoke but only for 30 seconds or so. I am also glad I watched a few videos before buying as I almost bought its big brother which would have been way too big... this one is about the size of a German beer glass. If you have a large BBQ, consider the bigger one.

Weber® Portable Chimney Starter
21 May 2020

I have found previous BBQs to be very difficult to light efficiently and to maintain significant heat. I use this on my small Kamado Joe which gets it fired up real quick and I can cook my food in a shorter amount of time rather than waiting for an age or using a hefty amount of firelighters. Additionally, this works perfectly with the smokey mountain. I have been experimenting using the minion method to cook my food on the smoker and this works well to fire a handful o briquettes and allow the head to spread through the rest of the briquette nest. Amazing!

Works well, pretty durable
14 May 2022

I've been using this for a couple years. It's reasonably durable, holds an adequate capacity, and it does the trick. For my grill (22" Weber Kettle), I feel that it's a bit on the smallish side. In hindsight, I'd probably have purchased the larger one. It's not about capacity. The larger unit has a bit more heat shielding, and the handle is further back and up/away from the heat. I've found that the handle can get hotter than expected. Not a deal breaker, just an observation.
