Enjoy a portable Weber charcoal experience with the Jumbo Joe, bringing the best aspects of Kettle grilling to camping trips, beach days, picnics, and more. The large 47 centimetre chrome-plated steel cooking grill provides plenty of cooking space whether you’re roasting a whole chicken, grilling some delicious steaks, or flavourful pork. The no-rust vents on the top of the Jumbo Joe allow you to easily adjust the air flow and temperature, for precise cooking. The Tuck-Away lid holder allows you to place the lid when actively grilling and as a bonus can serve as a windbreaker when cooking outside. For great slow cooked meals, the charcoal rails allow you to indirectly heat the interior of the kettle. When it’s time to pack up or move on, the lid locking system will prevent the lid from falling off for easy transport.

If you're grilling steaks on anything besides this or the smaller Smokey Joe, you're doing it wrong. I see people complain about grills not making sear lines... who needs lines when the entire face of the steak is seared, like it's supposed to. The closeness of the coals in this grill does it easily with 1 chimney. If I wanted this type of total sear in my 22" weber, it takes more time, or more charcoal, and still it's not as good. Burgers and chicken can also be done in this grill if you know what you're doing, do them all the time. But to me, this thing is the fighter jet of charcoal Webers, intense and fast. I'll own one of these the rest of my life just for steak alone.

This Charcoal grill is amazing so far! Small and portable but yet is big enough to fit a ton of food on, it holds in heat very well, keeps coals lit and the lid tucks away so you don’t have to set it on the ground. The only thing that I wish Weber would do is come out with the portable table that is advertised on their website, so I don’t have to bend over and squat down to grill. I don’t know if they stopped building them or are on back order or something, with the portable table this would be perfect. That aside this is great for couples, small families or single person use. Good grill for home use or to take on camping trips and so on.

I bought this as a portable addition to my Weber gas grill. I wanted something to bring more flavor vis-a-vis charcoal and wood smoke. The grill is large enough to do indirect grilling yet portable enough that I can store it on a shelf in my shed. I liked being able to smoke continuously and the two air control vents really allow me to regulate temperature. Easy clean up. Love the way the lid is held to the side when you open the grill. I love that it is larger than Smoky Joe. I grilled/smoked fish and a pork shoulder at the same time with neither sitting above active coals. Nicely done.

I bought this to take camping. Works really well. I did was add some weber charcoal baskets to keep the charcoal exact where I want it. Only change that would be nice is if the grilling grate was about 1-2" higher. With the baskets your grill grate is very very close to the charcoal. Dam near touching.Overall great grill, happy with my purchase. Most likely upgrade to a full size 22" soon for the backyard and keep this option for camping and day trips.
Jumbo Joe is the perfect size for a small group, and is quite portable if you are camping or going to the beach. Works the same as the larger kettles, but with a smaller footprint. Joe holds his own to the bigger grills, and now that I have had 3 different sizes of Weber grills, I can't tell the difference in craftsmanship between Jumbo Joe, and its larger siblings. The only downside to this grill is that it is short. Being short is not a bad thing, considering all the upsides. The travel handle is multifunctional. It supports the lid when lid is removed, and of course it holds the grill lid on tightly for transportation. There are vents on the bottom and on the lid for perfecting your grilling skills. I’ve yet to use this Jumbo Joe but expect it will work as well as the other Weber kettles I’ve owned. The issue that I have with Webers and most grills in general is with the grilling grates. Grilling actually utilities all three types of heat—convection, thermal radiation, and conduction. The Weber kettle does a good job with convection, hot air passing by the food on the grate, with the lid off sometimes too good. It also does a good job of reflecting thermal radiation owing to the kettle shape but it’s the 3rd type of heat, conduction that is not adequate. Conduction occurs at the point of contact with the grate, the grate should have enough thermal energy stored in it to sear the grilled item. Conduction occurs at the point of contact with the grate, the grate should have enough thermal energy stored in it to sear the grilled item. The wire grates of a Weber do not do this very well and more over they are the wrong material. A grate wants to be of a slightly porous material—cast iron. Think about searing in a cast iron pan on a stove top, wonderful! Or think about every professional kitchen grill, the grates are very heavy cast iron. This heavy material stored enough energy that when a new, often cold item hits the grill it’s not shocked down, it immediately is searing and continues to do so through the cooking process. The cast irons porosity, once it’s well seasoned is naturally non-stick while the stainless steel wire grate is pretty much the opposite. Fortunately there are after market cast iron grates available for all three sizes of Weber kettles, I just wish Weber was kind enough to include them in their design and product.
This is a replacement Jumbo Joe after I gave my old one to my brother to use in his camper. I tried to get my with a Smokey Joe Premium but it was too small and couldn’t maintain proper temperatures with the lid on. The JJ is the best portable grill for camper duty. It stores easily in the camper and has the realEstate to cook complete meals. I have taken to using the ash catcher as a warming tray for baked potatoes once they are cooked. I wish it came with the grate that has the flip up ends to add coals.it is the only thing we cook our meals on for days/weeks at a time when camping. Essential equipment.
It's a solid grill and I really like the extra grilling area compared my old Smokey Joe. It's big enough for four or five steaks, but still portable. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of some minor top air vent issues. Either the bolt hole is too big or the bolt is too small in diameter because the vent slides around on its axis when you adjust it. Also, the sharp side of the stamped metal vent goes against the enamel paint. Unless you wet sand it or otherwise smooth those edges out they will cut right through the enamel to bare metal. Weber should take more pride in correcting such things, but they have not. Other reviewers have brought both of these issues to Weber's attention in the past, so there is no excuse.
I really do like my now second Jumbo Joe. Like all Weber BBQ's now built in China they are not the same quality. The area where the handle enters the body the handle activity scrapes off the enamel around the inside of the hole and cleaning the BBQ causes rust. Mine was replaced under warranty and I modified the handle ends and straightened them. Put a split pin and washer through the end so it now can't scrape off the enamel. However I'm cooking this arvo and I notice the actual handle is tarnishing with rust appearing. Great BBQ. Average design and build quality. One of my early Webers now owned by my ex BILaw would be over 40 years old and still going. I doubt whether this one will last 5.
This arrived at our house on the 24th of May. We have used it 4 times since then and will again this afternoon. We live on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico around New Orleans. It's nice to have an outdoor cooking experience that saves us from turning on the stove, and heating the indoors of our house when it's hot 9 months out of the year, where we live AC is required. We love how this grill uses half the amount of charcoal than a 22". We're also in love with its compact portable size, but ability to cook for 4 to 6 people if needed, even though most the time it's nice to have this small grill to cook on just for my wife and I. We also purchased a slow and sear charcoal divider for side to side indirect cooking. This thing can do it all smoke/bbq/grill and it weights ... MoreThis arrived at our house on the 24th of May.
