The Smokefire desperately needs more shelf space, but this new folding front shelf is a major disappointment. The design has some fundamental flaws. Most noticeably, the shelf simply does not have much strength to support heavy trays of meat. You could not trust it to hold your brisket, ribs, or pork butt. Second, it is too shallow, meaning if you have a tray on the shelf you cannot open or close the lid because the lid handle will interfere with what is on your tray. Third, it is very difficult to clean when drippings fall down onto the shelf and the nooks and crannies on the inner-part of the shelf. This is very poorly designed - not what I expected from Weber. It is also very expensive and over-priced. The Smokefire should come with built-in shelves, but they ... I was one of the early adopters and had some of the issues with the gen 1 units like others. That said I wanted to be patient with my review because of how amazing Weber has been with their customer service. They provided me all the upgraded gen 2 parts last year and it's like a whole new grill. I've had zero issues since the upgrades and use it at least 3 times a week. This is the best purchase I've made in a long time. The flavor and ease of use is well worth the price. Plus knowing Weber has your back is a huge plus. For folks that gave up too soon on the smokefire, this is why patience pays off. Do not hesitate to buy this.My recommendation is to use the weber pellets because they're the best. By doing this every 5 or 6 long cooks you can easily use the cleaning tool provided to take ten min to dump the pellet ash into the drip pan. Super easy and keeps things clean. Why am I still typing? I should be smoking something instead lol. Oh and click add to cart and buy the smokefire already.

This addition is very convenient. The table is spacious enough to place my cutting board and plates. There's a limited space between the table and handle when the lid is closed. I can also hook the upper cooking rack which is another convenient feature. This also perfectly fits with the Smokefire Premium cover. I felt this looked bulky after I installed. It might be better to coat the table with black color for the look. Overall, I would give 5-start and highly recommend this.

These folding shelves are an excellent addition to the Smokefire. Makes it so easy when changing from rack to pans. Prevents spills. Well worth the money!
While the folding front shelf is an amazing add-on to the WSF EX6, it's function leaves a little to be desired. I do like how it folds out of the way, but it's a bit tricky to disengage the folding table when you're ready to stow it in the down position. I'm also concerned with how long the plastic bushings at the pinch point are going to last with the constant opening and closing of the shelf in normal use. I could see those failing relatively quickly, but we shall see. I'm giving this 3-stars because after one month of use, with the grill being kept under the Weber cover while not in use, the bracket for the table, which mounts to the barrel, is starting to show signs of surface rust. That's disappointing.
I really love having a front shelf to sit my tray on when putting food on or taking food off the grill. Also love that I now have a place to hang my top grill rack when not in use. Only inconvenience is the handle on the grill sticks out over the shelf. An empty tray/cutting board slides easily under the handle, but when you are taking food off the grill you have to then move the tray out of the way before you can close the lid. Otherwise the handle ends up hitting the food. Just a minor inconvenience, so overall still worth having.
So far I have used it a handful of times and have been very happy with the results. My one issue is on a long brisket cook, the pellets became jammed at the fire box and didn't fall into the discard tray, so they all built up and the fire shut down, so I can to clean out the entire area and free up the blockage. Brisket turned out great, but still took about an hour of time away from the cook to fix the blockage.
Pros: The grill really needed these, and the shelves give me some place to put trays, sheets, and other things when moving items around or taking them off the grill. The hooks for the upper grate are inspired. One of the better features.Cons: I wish the shelves were sturdier and deeper. Since they fold down, I would guess how deep they are wouldn't matter when stowed. With the grill handle coming out as far as it does, there always seems to be a contest for space between the handle and whatever I have on my pan.
The quality is not what I expected from Weber. The side shelf is well built and I was expecting the front shelf to be the same. The plastic bushings seem to be the weak link in the shelf construction. It feels like I am cutting into the plastic bushing every time I use the shelf. I can never seem to have both shelf haves drop into the same locked position every time. I use the shelf to rest food on if I am turning it in the grill but as a full time support I just do not think it is up to the task. Time will tell.
The manufacturing and packaging of the product was very good. However, the attachment of the shelves to the body of the grill is potentially problematic. Also, the shelves grate of the attachment surface when moving the shelves into place. Insertion of the shelves into the secure upright position requires too much force, which in turn will affect their attachment to the main body of the grill. Once into position, the handle of the grill lid hits on anything sitting on the shelves.
