Awesome Travel BBQ to Park/Beach/Garage!

I purchased this bbq after doing extensive research online of comparable travel bbq’s. I watched hours of YouTube videos, read reviews, and even spoke to other users. I highly recommend you buy this grill if you want to travel to the park, beach, or even winter use outside of your garage.I purchased this grill in January 2022 and have used it during winter months in Southern Ontario where we got a lot of snow this winter. I kept it folded in my garage and would use it just outside my garage when I wanted to bbq. Instead of cleaning off my backyard Weber and standing in the snow I just used my Traveler. Now that it is Spring/Summer I have used it at the Park and Beach. It fits in my 2020 Hyundai Tucson, with 2 coolers, portable canopy, beach toys, and chairs. It was very easy to build, just needed to put on wheels and grill grates. Folds up easily after you are done. And its ready to go for next time. I use the portable camping propane tanks (4 for $25 at Home Depot). It can be a bit difficult at first to put the propane tanks screwed in at first! The threading needs to be screwed in completely. If you see any threads on the tank, than it is not in correctly. Take back off and screw back on. I did have trouble first couple of uses getting it in correctly. But now its fine! I get about 2 hours cook time with a small propane tank. Usually on middle to high temperatures. There is a portable regulator you can purchase to hook up to a 20lb tank. I don’t have it yet.The grill fits a lot of food. See my pictures. With the lid closed the grill gets hot fairly quickly. There are 2 small spots that do not get as hot. Those are the far left and far right sides of the grill. Its small but you can just rotate your food around. That is what I do and it’s totally fine.I use travel size Tools that make it easy to pack with. See pictures.Wheeling it across a gravel parking lot is easy. Even easier on grass too. The bbq does have some weight to it but that is a good thing because it is sturdy.Cleaning the grill grates is easy once cool to touch. I use a bbq sponge from the Dollerstore and some baby wipes and it comes out clean. I also take the grates off and clean the inside after each use. I use a paper towel and some baby wipes too. This helps keep it clean and the smell of bbq out of your car when you travel back home. That way you car doesn’t smell like grease. Make sure to give the burner tubes a light wipe with a paper towel after each use. Make sure to get rid of dust and grease. When starting the bbq I have had some issues with getting the flame to go all the way around. I have had to push the ignitor multiple times. That’s why it is important to clean burner tubes. If you are thinking about buying a charcoal bbq for travel I would not recommend. While I am at the park I see lots of people using charcoal and having issues starting up and always having to wave the smoke to keep it hot. If you want a simple way to unpack and grill then this is the grill you want!I don’t know what else to say about the grill. Highly recommend. I will use it once a week during spring and summer at the park. And in winter time outside my garage!

Could be good but I would look for another grill

I read multiple other reviews experiencing the same exact problem. You will need to spend an extra 40 bucks and get an extension hose adapter and only use 15lb propane tanks. This grill is such a disappointment, it could be great but the quality falls flat.

Disappointing performance from disposable gas cylinders

At the time of writing this review I have performed two cooks on my Weber Traveler. The first cook was a couple of wagyu sirloin steaks with some padron peppers cooked alongside in a grill basket. The results were good but I was surprised how much gas from a new en417 cylinder was used (starting weight 620g, after cook 298g). The second cook was a large batch of twelve skin-on boneless chicken thighs that had been marinated in a simple mix of rosemary, oregano, preserved lemons, garlic and olive oil. Using the same cylinder from the previous cook I was surprised to see how quickly the cylinder started to ice over on what was a reasonably warm day. Using the same cylinder from the previous cook I was surprised to see how quickly the cylinder started to ice over on what was a reasonably warm day. Performance wasn't good and although I was able to cook the thighs to a safe temperature I was unable to crisp up the skin as the temperature of the grill dropped off dramatically. Swapping to a 13kg propane tank using the Weber adapter (8482) saw an immediate improvement in performance and the thighs turned out very well. I already had the 13kg tank and adapter hose and tank that I use with my Q1200 when at home.I am disappointed with the performance of the Traveler when using disposable en417 cylinders. If you are planning to take this on a camping trip make sure that you take a good number of disposable cylinders or my preferred option would be to take the adapter hose and a 5kg propane tank. This obviously adds significantly to the cost. I mostly use Weber charcoal kettles (Master Touch etc) as my main BBQs but the Q1200 and now the Traveler are for camping trips and small quick cooks at home. It looks like I will be buying a new 5kg cylinder before our next camping trip.

Generally a great BBQ, just one word of warning.

Had this BBQ for just over 18 months now. SO is it a good BBQ? Yes it is very good. Loads of control and if you use the Patio gas adaptor or can connect direct to the Caravan/motorhome BBQ point its never going to suffer icing of the gas canisters or if you buy one of the larger disposable canisters as you don't need to run it at full heat if you close the lid when cooking its brilliant. At full temperature it seems it can be hot enough to do pizza's almost as quickly as our wood fired pizza oven. So a shaped pizza stone option would be amazing and I am getting a custom made stone cut to do pizza's as it really does get hot enough to cook a pizza from fresh dough in about 2-3 minutes like a wood oven. So a shaped pizza stone option would be amazing and I am getting a custom made stone cut to do pizza's as it really does get hot enough to cook a pizza from fresh dough in about 2-3 minutes like a wood oven. The overall heat is pretty even over the whole grill and although we have not smoked any food on it yet (our wood oven can cook for hours on cheap hard wood) the smoking option would be good for travelling. Now the down side. The steel griddle plates do fall and will open the lid when moving the BBQ and it will open the lid. So we have used bungie cord around the BBQ when closed to keep the lid closed more securely and this also helps keep the grill plates in place. Weber, just sort that out and it would be a 5 star rating. The optional bag to store it does seem a little complicated design too but when you use it the way it works and the guide showing how to put the BBQ inside it is great. But again missed a trick where the wheels go inside the bag there is a flap that can be opened to expose the wheels to move the BBQ inside the bag. But the flap will drag or get caught under the wheels. a simple velcro modification could allow that flap to be held up off the floor so you can wheel it using the BBQ's own wheels. As it is to save the bag from damage when moving the BBQ you do need to lift it and it is a heavy BBQ so for some the bag is not ideal to store and to move the BBQ when it is in the bag.Two simple fixes for the BBQ and the optional bag and it would be 5 stars all around. I still recommend the BBQ with a word of caution. The bag is a luxury that does keep it clean and looks good, but needs to be revised to be really useful.

Great grille area in a small footprint
20 June 2022

We purchased the Weber Traveler Portable Gas Grille because my full-size grille was blown over in a windstorm and the entire burner assembly was destroyed. Because I can't move my patio location, we bought a portable grille that we can fold down and store in our garage. We were impressed by the large grille area in a relatively small footprint, and the ease of setup and breakdown for the grille. I purchased a gas-line extension to use a 5-gallon propane tank to avoid frequent replacement of small cylinders, but it is nice that the grille can be transported to a campsite with the smaller tanks, too. Be careful when moving the grille or store the cooking grates separate from the grille. Otherwise, this a great solution for my situation.

Great product, but know the compromises

Perfect for small footprint or portability. I came from a weber spirit which took up a bigger foot print on my balcony. This is a very high quality grill which I would recommend to everybody, however if you have the space and dont need the portability, get the spirit for the following reasons:1) Better heat control. 2 burners vs 1 burner on this model. Difficult to get heat perfectly. With the propane tank connected, heat on low setting is 400 degrees2) Flavorizer bars - spirit does a better job distributing heat and managing drippings. This one isn't bad, but definitly has a difference between right above the burner vs the sides.3) Traveller needs to be cleaned more often due to the smaller size and lack of flavorizer bars to protect the burnersBenefits of ... MorePerfect for small footprint or portability. I expected a lot from Traveler, not disappointed

This is a nicely designed medium-sized, yet, portable grill. The lowest flame is a lower searing temp, but it will cook large chicken legs slow enough to caramelize with very light charring and still get them fully cooked, when cooking on 4 sides...perfect, in my opinion. I have noticed a few small portions of the grate run a bit hotter (over the ends of the burner), then a few are cooler (close to outer edge, front/rear). Temp variations are to be expected with most any gas grill, and I've used quite a few. Use them to your advantage to speed up or slow down your cooking. The burner ignition can become unreliable, as it relies on flame to carry across in sequence to each gas port. The burner ignition can become unreliable, as it relies on flame to carry across in sequence to each gas port. After a dozen or so meals I need to clean the burner, as it hesitates to jump the flame all the way around to the front. A medium bristle nylon brush and compressed air will do the job (on a cold grill). This is not an isolated issue with Weber or the Traveler. Every gas grill I've ever used has this issue, so don't knock weber for a fault that is not theirs alone. All the complaints about the lid latch unlocking while moving the grill...really??? Common sense will tell you to not over-tilt the grill while in motion in a manner that would cause this to occur. Not to mention, handle with care if you care about not damaging something. Slow down, look at your walking surface, and think about what you're doing. If you get in a hurry, expect issues...plain and simple. The manufacturer cannot control the user's actions, especially if carelessness is likely to be a factor. At best, additional user warnings could be added to the instructions.Overall, I have no buyers remorse. Weber has been in the business a long time and have created among the best, if not THE best, of my collection of outdoor cookers. I own a 18.5 Smokey Mountain with lower pan/grate mods & upgraded water pan, Smokey Joe 14 Kettle, 18.5 OTG Kettle (sadly, discontinued) w/rotisserie & side fire baskets, 26.75 OTG Kettle w/side fire baskets, and 10 or so non-weber medium to large LPG and charcoal smokers, grills and fryers (just in last 20 years). For those unfamiliar, OTG (one touch gold} is the gen-1 integrated ash removal/air intake control with semi-enclosed removable ash receptacle, stainless grates, etc, so I've been on the "dark side" for a while. If you really want a portable tailgating or camp grill that functions well (as a self-contained grill), this is probably as good as they get. In comparing with a major competitor's design, the tube burner design and mostly open-grate of the weber will out-perform the round "camp stove" burner with a grill/griddle plate hands down. No, it does not have a high lid for whole birds or large roasts...this isn't what a true portable grill is designed for. The Traveler is designed to do what they say: use less fuel - probably due in part to it's lower profile lid and fire-box - less space to heat uses less fuel. It is efficient enough to slow-sear at 20* ambient with low flame. You can stack nearly cooked food on top of other food (and close the lid) until it's all ready, so, if no warming grate is your hang-up, I suggest you rethink your methods. If it won't fit into your RV cargo bay you may need to get a little creative in how you stow other gear and/or this grill. I may find it a bit of a challenge myself. I've been too busy getting to know and enjoy my grill that I haven't tried to stow it, yet. It will be worth the extra effort, as I'm not going to our camp and off-road trail rides without my Weber.Lastly, with all the adversities which have come to our nation's industries and business in general, Weber is STILL made in USA. I support America when ever I can. Ask yourself if you want to buy from China, then, ask yourself if the cost savings is worth the compromise, because a compromise is what you'll get, including warranty and CS. I'm replacing a built-in rv grill with this weber because after just 3 weeks of camp & rides I'm not willing to compromise with a marginally functional grill anymore. I enjoy my solutions for outdoor cooking!

Really nice concept, latch was disappointing.

I have had great experience with a variety of Weber charcoal grills and smokers, and have always been pleased with the design and quality of product. When I saw this new Traveler, I was super excited as I had been eyeing the Weber Q series for some time, and was hesitant due to the lack of an integrated lid latch. Low and behold the Traveler included a latch and along with the rolling cart and soft close gas strut, seemed like an excellent design that met what I was looking for so I purchased one, even though the price was a bit high to spend on a travel/camping grill.Received and unboxed, easy assembly (basically just attaching wheels). Stood it up, and the grates inside shifted, knocked the lid open, and ended up denting/chipping the paint. Stood it up, and the grates inside shifted, knocked the lid open, and ended up denting/chipping the paint. The latch is too weak to hold the lid closed when the grill is upright and with the smallest movement can jar open. When at an angle during rolling or flat of course it is not an issue. While this is a relatively small issue relative to the overall performance of the grill, it was a bit of a downer to have one of the key features that I thought would set this grill apart, end up being the one feature that was a disappointment. It’s easily remedied with a simple bungee cord. I also purchased the Weber official cover/bag thinking it would also provide a secondary function of keeping the lid closed. Unfortunately that bag was also a bit lacking in design. There is no cutout for the wheels so when covered, essentially defeats the rolling cart function of the grill.I’m hoping they can make a revision 2 design modification and improve on this. Otherwise the grill does what I expected it to do.

The best of the best yet!

Probably has to be one of the best bbq’s I have ever owned. I have a full-size 4 burner Webber BBQ which I love! But this portable BBQ is almost equivalent to it!Don’t waste your time/money with others! Spend a little extra and enjoy life anywhere!Definitely a great option, especially as it’s portable. The quality standards and features and ease of use and functionality are just phenomenal. I purchased an adaptor to use my 20 lb tank as I bbq a lot!Honestly there are no cons, just maybe a couple of improvements I would recommend:1) Include a cover.2) My bbq was missing the small clips for the wheels, but I had some old ones that I clipped on for now.3) Install another Flame knob, making the grill a two burner, instead of one for indirect cooking ... MoreProbably has to be one of the best bbq’s I have ever owned. This is the portable rig you’ve been looking for

I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled to for this awesome grill so that other shoppers can avoid agonizing over the purchase like I did. It does its job exactly as promoted and doesn’t let you down. I dare anyone to try to make a grill more adaptable and transportable. Whether you are tailgating with a hammered crew or having a steak dinner with a date, you need to own this rig. It lights simply, heats up quickly (yes, even in the snow), has a large cooking surface, is easy to clean, takes seconds to set up or collapse, and fits great in an SUV or truck bed. Do you like to party at home? Buy it. Do you like to party on vacation? Buy it. Do you like to party at your friends’ houses but don’t trust their garbage equipment? Buy It. I work this grill hard and often ... MoreI rarely write reviews, but felt compelled to for this awesome grill so that other shoppers can avoid agonizing over the purchase like I did. I work this grill hard and often and have never experienced any problem. It is an absolute workhorse. Everyone I have shown this grill to is jealous. You roll down the lot and whip this Weber out and the people know you mean business. If you don’t have your credit card out yet, you should be yelling at the person in the next room to see if they’ve seen your wallet.
